Good luck. My sister's also type one, and she's been totally fine for years now. I guess we're luckier than we know, sometimes.

Snip some more.
Sympathy and hugs from far away.

Huh. Does it beat San Pedro Sulas? I would have called it the second safest place I've lived (Grahamstown wins).
I wouldn't be all that surprised if it did, though.

« on: July 21, 2014, 01:08:48 pm »In the emergency room with Hiro. Hospitals are familiar places to me anymore. Not sure what's going on this time. He woke up crying and shaking, and has been unable to communicate all day. Though he seems to understand basic verbal requests made to him. We think he had a seizure, but there are many things that don't match up with previous seizure episodes. Hate to think that this is probably because I was too aggressive with his insulin dose and didn't stay up to check him in the middle of the night

« on: July 21, 2014, 12:56:39 pm »All your scenic backdrops make me jealous.
I had to hike for five hours to get to that one.

Heh, I think South Africa's biggest problem in that field is safety, not the weather.
Too bad really, there's not many places where people (somewhat) understand Dutch. Although maybe Namibia is a safer bet?
Safety is by far the biggest problem. People get mugged on Table Mountain fairly regularly, although groups are almost always safe.
I don't think you'll find as many Afrikaners in Namibia as South Africa, since the Great Trek only went so far, but I'm reasonably sure it's safer. Honestly, it's very, very difficult to be more dangerous than South Africa.
