What time period is 'antiquity', again?
Looks like anything before the fall of Rome, if Beowulf is fine.

Being sick sucks. Slept god-awfully last night due to a near constant river of mucus flowing either out of my nose or down my throat into my stomach. Decided to take a sick day from high school because I can probably afford it, could make up what little I missed, and because I felt like rubbish.

One day long break  of sleeping and nose-blowing later, I don't feel much better. Nose is still a faucet, stomach is full of mucus, throat is still kinda sore, and I feel like I'm ill. That feeling where you're tired and, uh, just generally sick, y'know. The worst is that my nose is just spewing liquids. How much fluid can my nose contain, like srsly. Make it stahp.
Any sinus trouble? If so, a decongestant should clear large swaths of your problem up. I feel your pain.

just about an hour ago, I learned my sister's dog (A mini daschund) just died.
-snip-
Itnetlolor, that sucks.

Life Advice / Re: How difficult is computer programming?
« on: February 25, 2014, 04:44:52 am »
I've taken to using Java recently both because I'm covering it in a course (so learning to use it guarantees me good marks), and because after a fair bit of dabbling in C++ the tutorial I was following said that if I wanted all my classes to talk to each other I was going to have to sacrifice a live chicken over the keyboard and write the terminal commands on the screen in its lifeblood. I gave up for a while at that point. The tutorial may just have been a not particularly good one, so I'll go back to C++ some time in the future, but for now I'll stick to Java.

I am vaguely aware of that fact, but from my perspective Canadians and Americans are very similar.
My point was that he wants to make the South African dried meat, not the American/European? dried meat.

It's basically the same, just colder and more polite. ...Right?
My experience with Canadian tour groups indicates that the primary difference is that all Canadians, without exception, are tall with blond hair and blue eyes.

...what do you mean, that's a small sample?

EDIT: I am currently wandering around the house in a sopping wet beret.

I want to take up hunting and make venison biltong.
An American decided to make biltong instead of jerky!  :D

WTF for the day: teacher messages me to say that the class will be writing a visual literacy test. That's all she says. When asked for further information, she says I don't have to study for it. I still have no idea when this test is, whether it was last Tuesday, whether I'll only write it in June or what.

"Updates on hold for now! More info soon!"

If I start reading a webcomic, it is near-guaranteed to go on hiatus within two months.

Painkillers are wonderful things.

Also, I got some OpenGL stuff to play nice with my program.

And, as unrelated to the previous as the previous was to the one before it, there is something awesome about ants in low-angle sunset light. Massive ant shadows!

The pain hasn't stopped. They said the pain would stop. I have no idea how people like MZ and mastahcheese deal with worse than this on a daily basis. Three days of this is beating me down.

Edit: it now hurts to swallow. Eish.

You might want to change the title. I thought it was spam until I saw someone had posted in it (after which I still thought it was spam, but wanted to see what they'd said).

On a serious note, go ahead and build one. It's useful experience and doesn't seem like a terrifically difficult project, plus it's almost guaranteed to be cheaper than buying a commercial version. Unfortunately, I can't tell you where to find parts, due to my non-American nature.

Other folks will point you at Spelunky as an example of what can be done. Edit: also Angry Laser Space.

I used to play around with it a bit, but I got bored and started learning other languages.

My ear has been healed! I can hear again! At least mostly, and the doctor says there's no wax left.

And hopefully the pain will stop soon. For the last two days, chewing, talking loudly, or going to sleep has been a DC 16 Will roll.
