DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / How safe are traps?

I've heard traps can crash the game if they break from wear. How long will this typically take? I'd prefer not to get into a spot where the game is doomed to crash from weapon wear before I can react, but I've seen people still using them despite the risks so it can't be that bad, right?

DF Suggestions / Medical practices increase Discipline skill

It's only natural that a dwarven doctor would see some horrifying things in his time, and seeing the aftermath of a seige would really be quite the wakeup call to a doctoral career.

In order of most discipline to the least, it would most likely go...
Surgeon, Bone Doctor, Suturer, Diagnostician, Wound Dresser.
Just my humble opinion.

I and some others have given their opinion and seem to feel it would be a great idea.

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Diagonal Movement

I have a laptop without a numpad, so I don't know how to go about movement diagonally. The actual numbers work, but that slows my game to a crawl due to the unusual layout for directions. I read something about the function key allowing diagonal movement using the directional keys, but it doesn't do anything for me. Any ideas or help?

I enjoyed Slash'EM. I downloaded it. I tried playing. THERE'S A DAMNABLE FLICKERING GLITCH THAT EVERYONE HAS BUT THERE'S NO SOLUTION, BECAUSE EVERY THREA IS A DEAD END. I try putting in abigaba tileset. NOTHING I TRY WORKS. Set save me before I kick down a shop door in my absolute fury. You see, the tileset should possibly fix the flicker, but the tileset won't WORK. Also, default tiles are horrible and I can't deal with raw, unstylized ascii.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / First megaprojects?

I'm a bit of a newb to the game still, and had to make a new fort due to annihilating my old one (long story, let's just say I've learned the importance of backups). I embarked at a volcano, and found that it has sand. After a while of starting, I realized what I wanted to do. I'm planning on this being my first megaproject once the fort is running full power, a large green glass tower rising up out of the volcano, and perhaps dipping down into the lava if there's a way to do such a thing reasonably.

This got me thinking. What were other people's first megaprojects like? as such, I came here to ask just the question.

DF Modding / Simple world gen mod

Sorry if this is the wrong area to post this (this seems the most apt), but I was wondering how to make a kobold-only world. I've tried reading what the wiki says, searching the forums and internet, and manually going in to remove all entity_defaults but kobolds, and nothing works. Trying to remove all entities but kobolds seems to result in a koboldless world with only megabeasts and the like. What am I doing wrong?
