Try removing either the meeting zone or the room designation.
Removing the zone worked. Thanks!

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: What's going on in your fort?

They always get your armorers first.

In other news. I decided to look through all of those old version folders I had sitting around on my disk and see what was in the saves. Nothing really interesting, except for a huge fucking fort with engravings all over the place, an unbeatable militia, hundreds (and that is NOT an exaggeration) of dead goblins and trolls, and a duchy. It was on the edge of becoming the capital. I probably had it for some real life months before it fell to a forgotten beast. Beware its fire.

Note that this fort was in 40.24. Compare it with my current fort in 42.06 that I have been working on for just under a month and my 42.06 fort looks more like an anthill with a wall around it.

So that's when I realized that 40.24 is a lot easier than 42.06, and from now on I am going to play 40.24.

DF Gameplay Questions / A few things I just noticed
« on: April 03, 2016, 12:44:37 pm »
- My dwarves never go on break.
- My dwarves never party.

This is nice and all, but why does this happen? The wiki doesn't mention anything about those two things. Are they known bugs?

Sorry for this necro but I have the same problem, but nothing mentioned here fixes it.

Right now I have a tavern with a barkeep and a performer. The tavern is designated from both the meeting hall AND a zone, which overlap perfectly. The tavern has a booze stockpile and a goblet stockpile, which by the way should also be storing mugs, which it is not doing. I have zillions of mugs and goblets. (Didn't know 1 order creates 3 goblets.) The tavern has three chests although only one of them is being used, and that one has instruments and goblets in it. The tavern has 9 bedrooms associated with it. Aaaand the tavern keeper is not doing anything.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Idlers
« on: April 02, 2016, 05:56:30 am »
I used to have tons of idlers... then I made a temple and a tavern, and they started partying and praying.
that lowered both the idler count... and the production count. Seriously, right now my legendary bonecarver is praying and comuning with the mountains instead of imprinting my civ symbol on every mug used on the tavern. and dont get me started on the armourer. he's been at the tavern for a year now.
I don't have any of this. When there's no job available, my dwarves are usually either socializing, praying, or just plain having "No job". As for the first two, the dwarves will forego them as soon as a real task becomes available.

Are you sure they actually have their labours enabled?

Dwarves are morons.

I ordered a bag of seeds that was in the way of the construction of a trade depot to be hauled away. Well guess what, all dwarves dash at the bag, take out a single seed, and haul it away. They left the fucking bag alone.

Again, dwarves are morons.

DF General Discussion / Re: GPU threading in DF
« on: March 30, 2016, 02:44:34 am »
I don't think "small calculations" is a good characterization of each creature's actions (movement is an action), though.
As I understand it, pathing in DF works like this:
  • Create a straight vector from start to finish.
  • If it contains any impassable tiles, draw a straight vector from the last passable tile in the vector to nearest point around the blockage.
  • Repeat for all routes around the blockage.
  • Calculate which is the cheapest by traffic designations. Use the vector points for that route as route waypoints for the final route.
  • Repeat from step 1 until there is an unblocked path to the target.
When targeting a creature this does need to be redone every time it moves, but it doesn't look very expensive in resources.

Of course I might be horribly wrong. But this is my best guess from what I usually see it do. It doesn't care about ice, it doesn't care about dangerous creatures in the way, it only cares about the shortest (aka least traffic cost) path and nothing else.

Hope you like fish, because tonight, we're eating...

In other news, the elven caravan just arrived, and they were greeted by huge stacks of wood laying on the ground, and a massive wooden wall to keep just their kind out when need be. Among others of course, but they are included. When need be.

Oh come on, why u so mean ? Have I done anything wrong ?
Sorry if you thought I was being mean. "PTW" means "posting to watch". You can actually watch topics without posting, but people do it to let the OP know that they have at least one new reader (I think).

Out of curiosity, what did you think I meant?

DF General Discussion / GPU threading in DF
« on: March 29, 2016, 09:04:17 am »
This is just a food of thought, not a serious suggestion to make DF faster.

So I know overdoing threading can actually reduce performance to a greater degree than that it will improve when done right. But DF only makes small calculations for each creature's movement and actions. I was thinking, what if DF was programmed/modded to use each GPU core to calculate each creature's movement and actions? I know that most GPUs have core counts that run into the hundreds, sometimes even thousands, so even low-end GPUs could probably have enough cores to have each one calculate the actions for every single creature on the map. Of course, the creatures in a world can run into the millions, but since they are not done in tile-level detail, they can be calculated in a single thread on the CPU like how it's done now.

Would this improve performance?

The best way to demonstrate it to him is take a save of 40 year old fortress with 150 dwarves in it on a good sized embark with a volcano that just breached the circus and install it on his gaming rig and watch it bring his rig to its knees.
Sigging this

Don't ask me why, but...

After hearing about the Brussels attacks, I wanted to play DF.

So I did, and beat the holy schnot out of every goblin I could find. damn terrorists

Country song

I think. I'm still not very sure about what exactly makes a country song.
