There's a reason why dwarves are moving out of the Mountainhomes.
I'm going to sig this... I'll probably have to get rid of my other two quotes but I'm going to do it XD

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Anyone else new and frusterated
« on: November 13, 2014, 11:14:26 am »
Well, since you are playing Masterwork, that actually explains pretty well why you are having a terrible time getting started. Even though I have never played any kind of mod before, from what the others explain to me about it then I agree that it's better to get used to vanilla first. Doing so will save 75% of your problems.. If you insist on starting with Masterwork(which you do), then I would go to the DF wiki and every time you want to look something up, go to the Masterwork page for it. Almost every page for a topic that also exists in masterwork has a page on the wiki. But you will still have a hard time getting help on the forums, as most people here don't play masterwork. I guess.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Orders: levels of job cancellations?
« on: November 13, 2014, 11:04:33 am »
Well, I once tried setting it to "all", and I got many cancellations like "Urist McPartyPooper cancels Attend Party: Getting something to drink." Although that was in 0.34.11, I am pretty sure that it still is like that. I don't know what the differences are when you set it to "most".

DF Gameplay Questions / On minecarts
« on: November 13, 2014, 11:01:44 am »
Multiple questions regarding minecarts:

1) When I set minecart routes to push the cart when its full of items, and then a dwarf comes along to push it forward, when it comes at the destination, the cart goes on for a while and ends up in the middle of a stockpile. Is there any way to actually make the cart stop when they reach the end of the track? (I know that just placing a wall would work, but I want to know if there's a more suitable solution.)

2) If I got the main fortress area near the surface, but a metalworking facility near magma to support magma forges and stuff, is there a way to make dwarves go up and down there using minecarts? I know you can get items to be hauled like that, but I want to know if you can use them to transfer dwarves too. Also, do I need multiple carts to minimize chances of collision, and as for the above question when going down, will crashing into a wall at the destination cause injuries? (I know that if it does than it will be certain death, but I want to know if anything happens to a dwarf that's in it when that happens.)

3) Is the quirk regarding propulsion by ramps still in place? So that I won't have to bother with rollers all over the place?

4) Are minecarts even worth it? So if I was setting up a systems like on question 2 then would I get any noticeable time benefits? Especially when hauling heavy metals and ores up and down...

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: 2x2 fortess size, is this valid?
« on: November 13, 2014, 10:52:43 am »
From what I understand, reducing the size does indeed vastly improve the FPS, especially for slower PCs where the FPS increases by untold amounts just by going for a 2x2 or even 1x1 embark(with DFhack). Some people also use the 1x1 as a challenge, to see how much skill they have at DF. Because the smaller the embark, the harder the game is. I guess most people dig a hole in the ground then and use a multiple Z-levels for areas where 4x4 embarks would use one.

But other than that, it is playable. Harder, but possible. I guess that you can make the path for invaders longer by channelling yourself an entrance on the surface and make a long hallway, which you can then fill up with traps as you would normally. After the hallway you can simply dig the main stairwell and go down. This also allows for a lot longer time for your dwarves to get in.

That you won't have to look for something can always be accomplished after you get a bookkeeper and accurate stockpile records. (You won't actually have to get "highest precision" right away, if you don't have any more of an item or category than the accuracy gets you, such as you don't have any more of an items than those 400 stones, then you can actually just get "medium precision" and you will be fine. When you see inaccurate numbers with a ? behind them then it's time to get one level higher precision.) You can then go into the status menu with Z and select Stocks, and you can find any item by pressing tab and then going into its category, finding that item, and pressing Z.

Also, a 4x4 embark is default :)

necromancy. :|

Why does light scarring destroy the ability of the hands?
Are you confusing dwarves with elves? You know very well that dwarves aren't pussies like that.

What does to mountainhome do with all those goblets? As in do they DRINK from it?! Real dwarves drink from a barrel.

Beds are made of wood, that's undwarfy. Real dwarves sleep on metal ore deposits.

Can't think of a good question, next guy will be asking. :(

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Trading - what is the point?
« on: November 12, 2014, 08:17:35 am »
So far I have noticed that war animals are basically useless. No goblin sees them as a threat.
Have you tried War Cave Dragons?

I only ever "trade" with elves by letting my military train on them, in exchange for a reason for going to war with my civ.

I know that, that's why I did it.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Why is aluminum so rare?
« on: November 12, 2014, 07:36:53 am »
Raw aluminum or native aluminum? On my current fort I don't even remember how much times I struck native aluminum, but never actually tried to smelt it or use it in some other way. I am aware of its value, but I never really did anything to do with trading and I am not planning to do so anyway.

Also, DO NOT PLAY MASTERWORK BEFORE YOU ARE FAMILIAR WITH THE BASE GAME. IT IS NOT A GOOD IDEA.

I never played masterwork(or any other mod other than DFhack) but why is it not a good idea?

That would be too fucking OP.

Why did it take 2 years for 40.01 to get released when there is now an update every 2 weeks?
