DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: Update and Necromancer Faction
« on: February 05, 2016, 05:13:22 pm »
Hey guys, I gave it another shot and STILL I can't join Necromancer factions. Is this a bug particular to me that I should report, or are you all getting this in the updated version?

I haven't tried necros at camps, this is for tower necro masters.

Make sure your monitor isn't glass though, or else they'll just bounce off.

I'm having trouble finding the demon in a dark fortress without dfhack help. I went into the center and a cave led me down into the center of the fort, and I'm sitting deep in the center in a cavern with seemingly no way down.

Should I veer off the center to explore more ways down? Any tips?

Fun tidbit of information.

This thread inspired me to try naming an adventurer manually. I didn't know everyone thinks you're a weirdo in game for having an odd name. People often greet, " (name), hmmm, you're parents must have been...interesting."

It's defined in [CREATURE:GOBLIN], innit?

Anyway, of course goblins aren't gonna be anybody's most-hated creature. Without goblins, where would we get goblinite?

Good point.

Yah, goblins actually give me a lot to look forward to when I play.

No, I mean if I lived in a fantasy world, and I called another humanoid race a 'creature', it would be offensive.

No... "we are all God's creatures" and similar wording was common in past centuries.  The word creature in older times did not have the same connotations that it does for us.

I am familiar with "we are all God's children ", "we are all God's creatures" I cannot find a quote from anything predating the 19th century.

Creatures spoken from a person of authority, or overseeing an activity of other beings can be a term of endearment. *Looks over at city from tall tower at civilians*, "look at all the little creatures." But 1 on 1 it is hardly endearing unless commenting on something as if it's an animal like activity, "You're a creature of habit aren't you?".

@Uzu- I don't find it obvious why this would happen unless unconsciousness and turtles being retracted into a shell have a correlation, in the sense that both states don't grant experience.

are not blind cave ogres intelligiant ?(realize misspelled but brain won't tell me correct spelling)
kea men have sentience also. and besides DWARVES count as creatures
sorry if I was a jerk saying that

No, I mean if I lived in a fantasy world, and I called another humanoid race a 'creature', it would be offensive. For instance, if a goblin peacefully lives in a human hamlet amongst humans as a tailor, the goblin would probably be offended if you call him a creature (unless you are intentionally calling a goblin a creature to denounce their race).

Whereas in a fantasy world, calling a blind cave ogre a creature is much more understandable.

For instance, you ask others about troubles with 'beasts'. They won't say, the human, goblin, elf or dwarf Carl has been harassing us etc..

Randomly generate until an awkward/erotic sounding name makes me laugh.

Once magic starts picking back up, I'm sure we'll see more variety in mythical creatures such as your suggestions. I'm hoping though more for randomly generated mythical traits though as opposed to 'fixed' types of said mythical/magical creatures.

Ex: maybe a cocktail of aggression, strength modification, raise undead can be a combined syndrome cloud that creates the zombies you speak of, instead of there being a new 'thrall zombie' type.

why has almost no one mentioned goblins? I mean they are led by CLOWNS!!! they actually are content with being led by CLOWNS!!!
also how awesome would it be if you could catch keas and train them to steal FOR you? kea, steal animal cages from elves! squak (yes, sir!)
kea, steal from gobbos! squak (yes, sir)

Goblins for most people don't qualify as creature I would think.

Questions:

1. Again, Does hitting a giant tortoise after it has retracted into it's shell not grant weapon experience? It doesn't seem to for me.

2. Almost all of my deaths are from when a beast larger than I latches on firmly with a bite. What are good ways to escape bite from larger than you creature after it latches?

Thank you
