DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Is this a natural lake?

Went looking for a serious embark site that contained an Aquifier (been practicing), and stumbled across this anomaly;
Is this area subject to normal river rules, or is there anything special I should know about such sites? That is, I won't be getting ocean-dwelling creatures like Whales & Sharks, right? Any info is appreciated

Anyways, I'm wondering if anyone would like to share some builds. I'm mostly looking for some good Nobles room designs, but I'm curious to see other Dorfs grand dining halls and such.
No biggie, I still have 6 Dwarves left. I remove labors from my Urist McHunter, and send him out to the wilds.
(I have 3 pages of him being strangled). It blazes past the cage traps, only to have several large boulders dropped on his head, straight into my team of ace Marksdwarves. It took me a few minutes to find him and confirm dead, b/c I was looking for a Human. Turns out this WereLizard was actually a Goblin
I'm betting the previous Goblin Horde tipped him off about the first row of Cage Traps
