Mod Releases / Re: Orichalcum Dwarf Fortress v 2.1.0
« on: November 19, 2015, 07:48:42 am »
Query; Has this mod done anything to change the vanilla Magma Forges?  I put this on a clean install, and upon loading discovered all of the Magma buildings are gone; Smelter, Glass, and Smithy.  The two new Forges are in my menu, though I saw no mention of replacing the vanilla options.
Have you found magma?  Those furnaces don't show up until you have found a magma feature.
I have built monuments to cheese, moved water from the top of the world to its' bottom, and yet somehow never realized this :-[

Edit: Oh %$@#, I just got to the part where Hostiles went on for 2 pages :o  Either De is the unluckiest Dorf ever, or my crazy WorldGen settings are actually having an impact.

Hey peeps, sorry I missed the last updates (life and such :().  Edmus is next, if he hasn't started yet.  Will update and cofirm with the next Overseers in line.  Also De, don't fret the losses, it happens to the best of us.  My favorite part is building all of those cages just so you can find the dead Dorfs, lol.  Having a scouting party show up in the middle of year 3 is a good sign, I feel.  We'll see what the future holds for Autumntowers. So freaking doomed.

Edit 2: Having now read through De's entire journal, I daresay he handled the situation masterfully, all points considered.  If we assume that 85 hostiles does not represent the entirety of our neighbor's population, then it stands to reason we can expect equal or greater groups next year.  The next few Overseers will need to work double-time on preparing our defenses.

Someone I missed this game until recently.  Picked it up today, and I am blown away.  The manufacturing possibilities reminds me a lot of Minecraft's IndustrialCraft mods.  If anyone would like to muck about in Creative Mode (the Planets patch seems to have made stability a problem on an serious server), just drop me a line.

I like to observe the effect it has when I effect a speech affect and try to affect others with my curious pronunciations!

Edit: girlfriend hit me for that.
Your ramblings here never cease to amuse me :)  However, I have noticed that you no longer upchuck magma.  I am disappoint :(

I forgot to keep brewing, so now all my dorfs are dying of thirst. Luckily, I recently managed to wall up a vampire, so I won't have to reclaim if everyone else dies.

This is the sort of thing that makes me wish I could auto-schedule some jobs based on a threshold (if drinks < 500, brew drinks)

Right now my method is to compulsively hit 'z' every so often, and have a heart attack half of the time because rendering errors make it so the last digits aren't shown, so I think I have 15 drinks left instead of 1500.
There is a DFHack plugin called 'Workflow Manager' that does exactly this.  It helps to mitigate many of the tedious but crucial micromanagement tasks.  If you are using the Lazy Newb Pack, then DFHack should be running with your game no problem.  Just enable the plugin and enjoy.

Being the highly competent Chief Medical Dwarf, we are technically of the Nobility.  As such, we... ahem, I.  Yes, just me, alone.  Normal...  are mandating the following productions, to be completed before our my next rule.

~200 white blocks
~30 each red and yellow blocks
Enough pump components to bring a cavern lake to the surface, with an appropriate power station to match.
Bonus- An opulent room will be awarded to the Overseer who can bring me a modest caldera of magma, and enough pump parts to reach from the caldera to the surface.

This project shall bring death to TowerCat glory to our mighty Constructivory, but the vast setup and material requirements would make completion in a single year impossible.  So I implore any Overseers to begin stockpiling the needed materials as soon as possible.

See, this is why a little summary at the end of your turn is is handy, just like I did  :P  Still, a Goblin scouting party in the middle of year 3 is a good sign.  I set a couple jobs at Mason & Mechanic to repeat for Workflow Manager, dunno what was going on with the Carpenter repeats.
Edit: Ah, rereading. He was the one who had the mood. I see. I actually meant to mention that. The way the fortress was spread out it was impossible for anyone having a mood to gather all their requirements before going insane.
Time spent gathering materials has no impact on the time-to-insanity limit.  Only when a required material is unavailable does the Dwarf begin the march to crazy town.  Anyways, sounds like this was a good learning experience for you.  Plus, at the current rate of expansion, Overseers will obliterate this Fortress long before any sizable Invasion shows up.  I guess that's a plus?  For the Goblins :-\

The crowd demands pictures!  And details.  I am quite curious what could have caused a major setback at this stage.

I think the WorldGen Cookbook thread is what you are looking for; http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=140180.0

I take it De, you have started?  Nice :)  To answer your question; despite the flurry of posts, there have been only 2 turns thus far.  I will update the OP with players and turn order.

As an aside, this game is not modded.  Everything is vanilla, I just cranked the potential !FUN! to 11.

De can bump down a couple of places in case he gets it figured out.  I will send a pm to Xenir & Edmus.  If one of them does not start, I will probably take another turn myself, just to keep things rolling.  I figure ~10 years will enough to see if the massive civ/hostile numbers actually have an impact.

I'm trying to add a reaction at smelters to produce mercury from cinnabar. The reaction works, but the dwarves won't use the (called for) container. Resulting in mercury puddles. Any thoughts?
Urist McTerminator cancels job, hasta la vista baby.

The save is packed into an Archive format in order to save space.  Specifically, 7-Zip.  The program is free, but any archiver will work; WinRar, WinZip, etc.  I did send you a pm, so if not received, then something is derpy with the forum messaging.
