Looks like the elf's also killed some zombie's (Probably another road crew) Look at the ground around where they start those three red things. Also the road seems to be getting paved in three directions look up at the top of the image so could that mean there's another zombie road crew around? That also mean the paving was started really close by. And leaves the question as to why is was started at the intersection?
Oh, look! The zombies weren't friendly.

@Evaris, all your problems come from pasting old init files into updated DF. You're not supposed to do that.
I haven't had any problems aside from trees looking better in Phoebus right now and the grass not animating.Not sure where you got the idea I was having problems. (Unless the init bit would cause the grass not to animate?)
Those are exactly the problems I meant though. Copying the init over made the tree trunk use the ground tile instead of O, and the VARIED_GROUND_TILES being set to NO in the copied init made grass ugly.

I am amazed nobody has mentioned gunpowder yet when greekfire has already been mentioned it exist well before 1400 although it only became really good during the 1300s and 1400s with the invention of corning the powder which makes it easier to transport and store and if done right increases the power by around three times. Although during this time period except for certain places in the late 1400s where limbered with trunnions field guns and the arqubus where used it was limited to bombards, bombs, rockets, grenades, handguns, and the breach loading swivel gun.
Pretty sure Toady has made statements saying he doesn't plan to have and doesn't want to include gunpowder. Even if its barely in the "1400 cut off" he doesn't think it fits thematically. Anyone got the searching skills to find an exact quote? There are several mods that add it, but it probably unlikely to be added in the main game. That said, if better support for multiple materials in a single item (gun made of metal barrel and wooden stock, bullets with powder and shot) and for projectile weapons (separating reload and fire actions) is added then modders can handle the rest for those that want gunpowder.
First off Gunpowder is not barely within the 1400-1450 cut off by any means. Gunpowder had it's roots in the 9-11th Century AD in China, and was in Europe by the 1200's. Gunpowder saw it's first use in siege weapons in Europe in the year 1262, and hand-cannons made an appearance in the first half of the 1300's. Cannons were significant by 1400, and undoubtedly so by 1422, with cannons being used by both sides during a siege of Constantinople in that year in large numbers, followed by the fall of Constantinople in 1453, in which the Ottoman's cannons were powerful enough and of great enough numbers that the walls fell for the first time in it's history.
As for Greek fire, we know enough about it, while we don't know it's true mixture or how it was made, we know that it stuck to objects and continued to burn underwater. So... yeah that kind of narrows it down somewhat to what it could be based on what materials and technology they had available.
Also, I do believe Toady's statement was we wouldn't see more than basic usage of gunpowder. I believe he said traps are likely, but he wasn't sure of including cannons of any sort.
That said, I personally believe basic cannons, alongside hand cannons and trap usage all have a place in the game, which is why I do include hand-cannons in my mod.Quote

I run most things on high/max. It's supremely disappointing that that's even possible. It's roughly between the R7 250 / 250X graphics cards in performance. GPU performance seems to not be increasing as fast as it once was.
It's theoretically 75% the power of the xbox one's gpu, so a large majority of games will run acceptably on it for the forseeable future... and it's 5 years old
If temperature matters so much, explain how with the same gpu the Asus card can't maintain its 1120 MHz boost at 71C but the MSI maintains 1120 MHz even at 77C? How come the lower-temperature one (theoretically meaning a better cooler) is running worse? Will the card throttle itself back for no apparent reason even if you manually overclock it? The answer would seem to be that they have different thresholds for their "boost", but try to find that documented anywhere, even though it would seem to be rather important to its performance (if you care about a few percent).
As for a cooler card lasting longer... It's completely unmeasurable and incalculable, and therefore meaningless! Answer me this: If I take a stock 270X (which I found a review saying it runs at 76C under load) and stick it in a shitty case with terrible airflow to the point it will run at 95C under load (the throttle-back threshold for the R9) how long will it last? 1 day less? Half as long? Only 1 day?
Choose the card with the longest guarantee if you're after long life. If that card happens to have a better cooler (it may well) win-win!
I used to overclock, back when you could do things like alter the FSB on an 1866MHz AMD 2500+ cpu from 166MHz to 200MHz to transform it into a top-of-the-range 2200MHz 3200+ cpu (complete with name, weirdly) for a 20% boost, or get an XP-m chip and push it even higher (e.g. I have records of pushing a 2500-m to 2400MHz or a 2400-m to 2580 MHz, which was faster than any cpu that could be bought at the time, 17% faster than even the top-of-the range 3200+). I have benchmark records of running an nVidia 8800 GTS at 650MHz core instead of 500, a 30% overclock. That kind of stuff mattered.
These days, thanks to the extended last console generation and everything being optimised for those... even my aging GTX 285 runs everything, so why bother? I'd bet even the R9 270 at stock outperforms the xbox one.

Composite/laminated materials: composite bows, studded leather armor, lacque/leather/metal armor (like samuri), quilted materials, chinese paper armor, etc. For it to work really well (as opposed to mods now that use two materials in a reaction to make a third material), the game should support some way of layering/combining materials and working out properties from the properties of the original. Maybe take the best trait of each material, so for example leather+metal gets leathers flexibility and the metals strength while reducing overall weight?
Medical materials in general, salves/poultice and the like, medicines (as appropriate for time period). The could be made using the existing system for reactions and then applied when appropriate injury comes up. So basically its just an extra medical job in terms of new underlying game mechanics. The raws would give the medical usage and a rating in effiacy. tags like [MEDICAL_USE:TOPICAL] or [MEDICAL:USE:ORAL] for how its applied, and tags [MEDICAL_USE:HEAL_CUT:1] [MEDICAL_USE:INFECTION:3] for when to use it. For extra detail though, have some medicines only useful to counteract certain syndromes, and soem medicines be nothing more than placebos (which still give a happy thought for "received medicine".
Tempering/quenching and other processes made explicit. Like I think right now steel's properties assume tempering, but it could be added as an extra step that alters the metal. Either the metal's stats could give a range of properties based on different treatments, or it could be a fixed modifier across all materials for a given treatment. Boiling could apply to leather for extra strength, heat treating for wood, etc. The material gains a modifier, instead of just the finished item. The realism/simulation and min-maxing players would like it, though the extra detail would annoy other players probably.

Sapphire Dual-X 100365L R9 270 2 GBThe reference clock of a 270 is 925 MHz, the sapphire is 945 and the HIS "Turbo" is 975. Neither is stock clocked. (Also, a relatively pointless 2% and 5%, good luck noticing that difference in games, it equates to approx 1 and 3 extra fps respectively at ~60 fps)

I've taken the time to look at that last link gimlet posted in detail, and although it's curiously missing any benchmarks or conclusions whatsoever, it does have a nice test of the cards' ability to hold their clock under load: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/radeon-r9-270-benchmark-review,3769-2.html
Specifically the "Sapphire Vapor-X 100364VXL Radeon R9 270X 2 GB" can't maintain 1100, dropping to 1050 repeatedly, and the "Asus DirectCU II R9270X-DC2T-4GD5 R9 270X 4 GB" can't maintain 1120, also dropping to 1050. The "HIS IceQ X² Turbo Boost Clock H270XQMT2G2 R9 270X 2 GB" on the other hand can maintain 1140 perfectly happily.
Interestingly this doesn't seem to be caused by the cooler, officially the R9 series downclocks at 95C, none of the cards on test run at over 80C, and neither of the cards that can't hold their clock speed is the hottest card! The "MSI Radeon R9 270X Gaming 4 GB" runs at 77C (vs the 73C and 71C of the Sapphire and Asus cards), but still maintains its 1120 MHz clock rate happily!
If anything, this is evidence that the different coolers make no difference what-so-ever to the performance of the card.

Geez, so only if it's completely identical to the reference card do you consider it a "stock model"? Well, yeah, then all those are gonna perform pretty similar...
