A reboot of the game Trespassers of the Multiverse.
Returning from Reborn.

There exists an untold number of universes, each with its own friendships, wars, gods, and demons. Each one with countless stories to tell. More are generated every instant, as new possibilities unfold and new minds are born with new ideas in a fractal expansion.

However, one of these many expansions went terribly, horribly wrong.

Horrific monstrosities, barely having a true form and defying all common or uncommon logic in description, were born in the gap between worlds. They ached to fill the gaping void within themselves with true existence, and so they fell upon the myriad worlds, devouring all that they ran across, some assuming the forms of familiar foes turned alien and some forcing their way into the hearts and minds of the people responsible for protecting the worlds they lived in.

The multiverse has held its own for eternities. These incursions are met by bands of heroes or chosen individuals with the strength of mind and arm to defeat them, wherever they appear. However, the war is turning. More and more worlds are falling to the beasts - called Trespassers for their lack of belonging - and their closest things to lords or kings have begun appearing - Pure Trespassers, raw destructive, consuming essence with a hatred for existence itself.

So the multiverse is fighting back. You have been chosen, lifted from your home universe, to fight these foes wherever they appear. Are you prepared to accept this mantle of duty, strong enough to fight to save every existence?

Forged in the fires of Catastrophe, you and your stalwart group of companions are out to change the world for the better - and maybe even make a few bucks doing so. Or, you just want the dime without feeling too bad about where it came from. Regardless, you've joined up with an up-and-coming private military company calling themselves Cutting Edge Solutions.

I guess they think they're funny.

Still, while they might not be famous yet, they managed to attract the attention of that Kjerag warlord, right? Not to mention the whole "surviving a Catastrophe" thing. There has to be something to that, right? If it comes to it, you can always just drop off the landship when it stops near a city. Assuming it doesn't blow up in the middle of nowhere. . .

OOC

You awaken from sleep in a cold sweat. The details are already fading from your mind, but what remains leaves vivid flashes in your half-awake eyes. A storm of fire falling from the sky. Pristine white snow streaked red and black. A dragon and a great bird savagely clawing at one another. A roomful of blurry photos turning to dust as you try to examine them.

You shake your head and rub your eyes, trying to chase the odd visions away. Perhaps it was the Catastrophe; the landship rumbling quietly around you passed near one recently. Today is finally a day of relaxation. After so much time and effort, you've finally started your new life as an Operator of. . .

Spoiler: Instructions (click to show/hide)

(A) Rhodes Island Pharmaceuticals, the world's most renowned researcher of Oripathy.
  • Treatment for the Infected here is better than anywhere else, both medical and personal. (Infected characters may eliminate one Oripathy penalty.)
  • Rhodes Island hosts a vast variety of individuals from all walks of life, creating many opportunities for learning. (Non-infected characters may gain an additional Origin bonus.)
  • Missions will almost always be humanitarian in nature, and most people know this. (Characters will generally be friendlier to you if you are clear about your identity.)
  • Virtually any facility can be found at Rhodes Island, particularly anything biomedical, but personal facilities are contingent on Rhodes Island being able to afford the material.
  • The organization has clashed frequently with terrorist organizations and other groups from a shadowy past; your reputation may precede you. (Some characters will mistrust or target you for your identity.)
  • Training regimens and standards, while present, are very haphazard due to Rhodes Island's unique structure. (Each Operator must choose a Specialty other than their own; they take a small penalty to rolls involving it.)
(B) Blacksteel Worldwide, dependable supplier of force.
  • Blacksteel has access to a fair amount of capital and an extensive contact network, making finding good jobs easier. (Mission information will generally be more complete.)
  • Training at Blacksteel is excellent for those who show the necessary dedication. They take pride in their product: you. (Operators gain a small bonus to their chosen Specialty.)
  • A strong professional reputation makes it easy to obtain extra supplies when combined with Blacksteel's other resources. (Obtaining extra gear mid-operation is easier.)
  • Blacksteel's armory is extensive and it is quite easy to obtain specialized gear, but anything not directly combat focused will be far more basic - and you won't get your own facilities.
  • Mercenaries aren't generally trusted outside of those in the know. Blacksteel is well-known and accountable, but it's still a mercenary company. (Characters will generally be somewhat less friendly to you.)
  • You go where the company needs you to, not necessarily where you want to. (Mission availability is more restricted and not always morally clear.)
(C) An independent company, freshly started in pursuit of fortune. (Write in a name suggestion, or save it for the end.)
  • You have absolute freedom to choose your own missions. (Mission availability is increased.)
  • People are eager to work with up-and-coming but still unknown actors on the world stage. (People in power will want to interact with you more at first brush.)
  • It's easier to lay low if you keep to yourself and nobody knows who you actually work for. (You will not be mistrusted based upon your organization. . . at first, anyway.)
  • Your landship is yours, and you can make the changes you want. . . assuming you can actually afford them.
  • People are eager to work with up-and-coming but still unknown actors on the world stage. (People in power will want to interact with you more at first brush.)
  • Your contact network is minimal; there simply hasn't been time to vet information very thoroughly. (Mission information will be generally poorer.)
(D) Reunion, the splintered organization of freedom fighters and "freedom fighters."
  • The name Reunion, for better or for ill, represents a banner to which Infected will flock to in search of liberation and meaning. (Infected characters will generally be much friendlier.)
  • Reunion's decentralized nature means that information about any particular individual spreads poorly. (Enemies are less likely to acquire intelligence about your capabilities.)
  • As a mostly independent team, you get the benefits of a greater organization without many of the downsides. (You are less likely to be penalized for flouting mission parameters or commands.)
  • Reunion is full of people that know how to survive, but you have no formal facilities whatsoever. Some can turn this into an advantage; others perish.
  • Life as a member of Reunion, whether tied to the main group or simply under the same flag, is vastly different from the life of a proper operator.
  • Most governments know you as a terrorist organization and will react accordingly. (Governmental entities will be MUCH less friendly.)
  • Supply chains are effectively nonexistent for Reunion. (Finding supplies will be much more difficult.)

~OOC thread~

The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth comes again. In one Age, called the Third Age by some, an Age yet to come, an Age long past, a wind rose over the Spine of the World. The wind was not the beginning. There are neither beginnings nor endings to the turning of the Wheel of Time. But it was a beginning.

The wind rushed down the slopes of the mountain as if fleeing some great horror. It flitted past Cairhien, nimbly weaving through towers that still bore the fresh scars of war. Down the River Alguenya it fled, leaving the fair city to pass over merchants and weary wanderers as they traveled to their numberless destinations. It soared over the beautiful city of Caemlyn, proud and prosperous, and ran down the road, where it tweaked the green-fringed cloak of a woman with red hair and an ageless face, causing her to pull it more tightly around herself where she sat on her horse.

"It's unseasonably cold. I hope the winter doesn't come as soon as it seems to be threatening to."

"Andor's farmers have been through worse. Winters have been harsh before; if it comes to it, people know how to make do." The man riding next to the woman didn't so much as glance at her as he spoke, instead scanning the area continuously. Despite his age, his movements seemed to carry some lethal grace to them, like a predator always poised to strike.

"If you say so, Sefton. I've never had a Talent for predicting the weather, anyway." She paused, thinking of something. "Where are Hayate and Ercole? It's taking them far too long to get back from their errands."

"You would know better than I. Eirin, this business of secret-keeping doesn't make my job easier."

"The same goes for bringing up secrets in public," Eirin admonished. "Now, what was this favor you wanted to do for Alvienne and Lydia?"

"Just a bit of exercise for the newer mercenaries. I don't feel comfortable letting any sisters wander about the countryside with untested steel to protect them." He lowered his voice further before continuing. "Especially a White sister, of all things."

"I see. Well, I suppose I do share some of your concerns, even if I think you're underestimating Lydia. She may not be the most deft with her weaves, but she's not weak, and I think her arms might suffice where the Power may not." She chuckled. "Some would say it's unseemly, but I do regret never being able to get her onto the topic of how she stays like that while practically living in the library."

"The weight of knowledge can be literal." Eirin snorted. "Leaving that aside, it seems we're pausing to let the horses rest. I believe now is the best time."

"Alright then, have your fun. Hayate and Ercole should be back soon enough to make it to your little sparring match." Sefton swung himself off his horse, then offered a hand to Eirin to allow her a more graceful passage off her own. She wandered off to speak with the merchant in charge of the caravan, while her Warder moved towards where the other newest members of the impromptu group were gathered. A wagon intended to hold ore from Baerlon currently provided transportation to those in the group without horses, though perhaps a bit less luxuriously than some of them might have liked. The wind whispered through the leaves of the trees that bracketed the road as Sefton approached.

"You four. Are you doing anything important right now?"

//Baronel, Camira, Andre, and Dola are in!

Meanwhile, one unusual passenger had managed to get a somewhat more comfortable seat beside the merchant. He claimed some long-lost noble blood, and carried himself well enough that, with his fine-enough clothes, he could pass for a member of a lower House without much issue.

"I have to thank you again, Lady Calderon de Mendez, for coming along with me on this expedition. I'm sure the partnership between myself and your father will be fruitful. So long as that bastard Risan doesn't sell me garbage ore again. . ." The man's voice was somewhat higher than one might expect from someone of his stature, but not so much as to be offputting. He glanced to the side, catching something in the corner of his eye. "Ah, it looks like Lady Eirin needs to speak with me. I know how you feel about her sort, so I won't keep you."

//Hortensia is in!

At the rear of the group was a situation that many men would find uncomfortable. The gleeman headed in the same direction as the caravan had found himself isolated with two Aes Sedai. There was no actual danger to a man left alone with the women, of course, but that didn't stop many from feeling uneasy regardless. He couldn't channel, but stories of Red sisters sweeping sons and fathers away weren't exactly unknown to one that gathered tales.

//Lydia, Alvienne, and Thane are in!

Note: Lydia, Alvienne, Thane, and Hortensia will not participate in the prologue map.

Hello, and welcome to my first new game in a long while. I want to bring a piece of one of my favorite fantasy series to the Bay, and have been meaning to run a FEF for a while; thus, this idea was born. Hopefully I can deliver a bit of the magic I’ve gotten out of the series to everyone playing and watching.

The Party
The initial players will be members or attachments to a squad of Andoran guardsmen, escorting an inspector to Baerlon to investigate some shipments of ore that have gone missing. While they are there, they are to reaffirm the Crown’s authority, and look into any issues or complaints that have arisen.

PCs do not have to be Andoran; they can plausibly hail from any country on the map given sufficient justification, and only the initial party is currently planned to be in Andoran employ. The exception is magic users, which will be discussed in detail later.

The baseline party composition might affect what you actually are. The overall story will not change, but each PC’s individual backstory will be considered when writing the game; feel free to get weird. There are also a few lore class restrictions in play; they’ll be noted below.

I’ll be looking for around eight total players. If there are truly exceptional sheets, or I find myself more able to handle it than I think I can currently, more slots might crop up later. The specifics of when and where PCs will be introduced will vary with the backstory composition, but currently four PCs are planned for the Prologue.
Accepted Characters:
1. Alvienne Sedai - Conjurer (Lulu)
2. Andre Voclain - Pioneer (USEC)
3. Baronel Goerimid - Occultist (SB)
4. Camira Naeronne - Myrmidon (Goggy)
5. Dola Alqardi - Brawler (Elf)
6. Hortensia Calderon de Melendez - Hunter (Cole)
7. Lydia Sedai - Priest (Dragon)
8. Thane Dovil - Wordsmith (Sword)

Rules & Mechanics

This game will be running on the FEF Player’s Handbook 2.3.2 except where otherwise noted. To supplement some of the inevitably missing variety, the classes from Elf’s supplement will also be in use.

Magic is heavily restricted in this game. Channelers are rare and male ones even moreso. If you want to promote into a magic-using class, you must discuss this beforehand with the GM. Additionally, due to the split nature of the One Power, male characters may not take classes with Light proficiency and female characters may not take classes with Dark proficiency. Anima is not gender-restricted, but male channelers will still face unique challengers if they take it.

Fliers are not permissible as PC classes. This is for lore reasons. To compensate, two new Character Skills will be added.
  • Scout (Cost): Movement costs of all terrain -1 except Plains.
  • Unbound (Cost): Unit ignores all terrain restrictions and bonuses.
Health and healing are modified. Due to the universe’s particular mechanics and the rarity of healing, I am changing how health is handled.
  • Health growths are not capped, and cost half the normal amount of growth (so investing 20% gets you to a 40% growth.)
  • Base health pools and caps are 50% higher. This means investing one point of health at start is worth 3 HP.
  • All PCs may perform the First Aid action, restoring 10 HP to an ally. Vulneraries and other healing items will be rarer, but stronger.
  • Magical healing is limited to the player character’s max health per map.
  • Renewal now heals for only 10% of one's HP per turn.
This game will be running on a QL-less system. The exact details are not yet finalized, but using higher quality weapons will instead come with associated penalties and costs. Magic in particular will cost a small amount of HP to use at high ranks. Details will be added when this is finished.

All backstories will be reviewed and discussed with the GM via Discord. This is going beyond the typical review process; I want to ensure everyone has the highest quality characters possible. This isn’t supposed to necessarily just be a weight on the player; I want to provide a quest for your characters, not just the amorphous blob known as “the party.” This means I want to talk through plans, ideas, refinements, etc.
Be polite. I won’t bother listing out all the standard RP practices; all the usual rules apply. Don’t kill each other OOC, no controlling characters without explicit permission from the player or GM, et cetera. Act like adults, or your best impression thereof.

When submitting your character, please use the following format:
Spoiler: Template (click to show/hide)

Player Characters will begin at First Class level 1, but will have levels rolled as if they had gone through Trainee Classes. The 5% bonus growth will be assigned after these initial levels are rolled.

Please vote in the above poll if you plan on joining! There are a few as-yet undecided elements.

Signups are currently planned to close on October 4th.

Hi all, figured I'd shill my latest thing here. I've been working on a book for several months now and I had the genius idea of publishing a chapter at a time on Wattpad. It's a sci-fantasy story consisting of most of my favorite settings mashed together into something that is (hopefully) new.

The link is here.
FictionPress link if the above doesn't work.
To copy my blurb. . .
Quote
In a world where cities sit atop mountains surrounded by deathly fog and the soul is a unique resource to be exploited by the owner, a grizzled veteran forced to retire by the march of time heads for an unexpected meeting. A girl with broken mind and body awakens knowing only what her mission must be. The past and future both pursue a young man, while the weary king rests his iron fist upon them all from afar. Peril and chaos lie in wait along the path to freedom and glory for all, and danger awaits in the most unexpected of places. The world asks only one question: can you keep walking forward?

Still talking with some artist friends about a cover. If you like it, please do check out the patreon link in the description.

Player's Handbook v1.3
Gameplay changes, some amalgamation of USEC, Haspen, and my own changes

Hello everyone, and welcome to the thread for a few testmaps that I'll be running. Specifically, along with a couple of the skills changed (Remise and Astra), I'll be testing some classes ported over from Fire Emblem: Fates, seen below.
Spoiler: Classes (click to show/hide)

I'll be running two tests, ideally, with eight characters each. Each test will be focused on analyzing three of the six classes introduced here, and will place them alongside the more standard classes. All characters will start as level 10 promoted units, and trainee levels will be rolled. Your starting equipment will be based on a point-buy system; you have seven points to spend however you wish. Weapon cost is based on rank; E being 1, D being 2, and so on, with the exception of S, which is not permitted for selection at this time.

For this first map, I will be testing the Kinshi Knight, Oni Chieftain, and Steward classes.
First Map Characters:
-Kinshi Knight: Cassiel (Swordstar)
-Oni Chieftain: Silent Mountain (Gigla)
-Steward: Ida (Gaterhyme)
-Samurai: Santoku (BMM)
-General: Alessa (Culise)
-Druid: Hix (Crimson)
-Assassin: Iod (BMM)
-Crusader: Marcel (Swordstar)

Any questions? Sheets will be selected based on user activity and party balance, so have at it.

OOC

It was a pretty nice night in Seigishi. Nice enough to maybe justify being out at 1AM, though the local police would probably ask any teenagers that happened to be wandering around why they were out past their curfew and haul them home to their parents. Almost nice enough to make this section of town seem like a good place to hang out; the darkness of night wasn't quite eliminated by the amber glow of the streetlights, and so the dilapidated and almost crumbling buildings had their edges softened and their flaws hidden from those seeking to criticize them. The night would have been better, however, if it wasn't for the thing currently charging toward you in the middle of the street. A big, angry thing, a reddish-orange something like rust, its squat but powerful build towering almost three meters into the air as it snarled, looking like some bizarre spawn between a particularly irritable bear and a particularly angry boar.

But wait, let's back up a few moments to before this all went down. Why the hell are you in one of the poorest sections of town at this time of night? Maybe you live there, maybe one of your less-than-reputable friends was there, or maybe you were just trying to scratch some faint itch in the back of your brain, this odd urge to be in this spot. . . Either way, you got here somehow. How?

Introduction

There is more than what is readily apparent in this world. Anyone with a gram of intelligence realizes this. What is not often realized is the world that now exists in the shadows of our own, a world of legends and magic. In it, individuals and groups defend the unknowing mundane from the threats of the supernatural - magical beasts, born from the emotions of humanity, ranging from simple animals endowed with unnatural strength or size, to crafty lurkers, sowing misery and misfortune from the shadows, to truly awesome monsters straight from the legends of the ancient world. Of course, as in any situation, some of the beasts take a decidedly familiar form. . .

This game will be running on the Magical Burst system, in a setting of mine adapted for the game.
Spoiler: Species (click to show/hide)

Factions

In the magical world, there are three principal factions of magical people, each with its own techniques, motives, goals, and ethics. There are also those that lie outside this system for one reason or another. These may sound quite organized, but the reality is that those with the right potential are rare and death is not uncommon. A faction's presence in a large city may never reach 30 individuals, and a group of Loners or Deviants will rarely, if ever, reach a dozen.

DF General Discussion / Dwarf Fortress Stream!
« on: April 20, 2016, 02:12:25 pm »
Hey bay12, just popping in to say that I'm streaming on Twitch right now.
https://www.twitch.tv/kingmurdoc
Currently trying to force my way through a patchwork worldgen.

27
Rampartclasped is a succession game with the objective of subjecting everything within reach to dwarven power. To this end, every single tile visible to dwarfkind will be worked in some way unless it is impossible to do so. The breakdown of the milestone goals is as follows:

1. Surface is claimed. All soil has been channeled away, except for map edges and what is needed to farm. Tree farms must be entirely enclosed with constructed or smoothed walls (roof of bridges if trees won't grow on tiles marked "Inside"). All exposed stone has been smoothed.  - IN PROGRESS
(Optional 1.5. Area around fortress proper has been completely channeled out except for access points, possibly with engravings on all outer walls. Ground should be at least three tiles away from the fort at all times.)
2. First cavern layer claimed. Must have at least one dining room, stockpile, and four functioning workshops built somewhere with direct cavern access.
3. As 2, but with the second layer.
4. As 2, but with the third.
5. Magma sea has been colonized and should have a fully independant fort at the level. (As in, locking it forever would allow at least two dwarves to survive until death by old age.)
6. An outpost has been constructed in [REDACTED]. Total reclamation can wait indefinitely (as [REDACTED] will never stop spawning, making any sort of living space difficult to create.
7. As 2, but created as high as possible above the fortress proper, or fortress proper is extended to meet this requirement.

A few notes about the starting conditions of the fortress: I've used a custom worldgen, run for 200 years, adjusted for more volcanoes. There are a few modifications to the default entities: only three dwarven civs will be placed, with most other civs operating at 5. Kobolds are at 10 to try and avoid their inevitable extinction. There are two modded civs in play: a generic evil civ that functions as a mirror to dwarves (though they can be of any normally sentient race,) and the Fallen, four-armed and highly dangerous enemies who are hostile to all known civs except kobolds.

The site is a volcano in The Big Mire. Our neighbors are dwarves, fallen, goblins, and humans. The site lacks flux but should be rich in other metals. The area is fairly mountainous, and there's no surface water.

Rules:
1. Work must be devoted to completing the milestone objectives in addition to normal fortress operation.
2. In the event of fortress death, the fort will be immediately reclaimed and played until the time the fort would normally end.
3. If fortress is killed due to catastrophic causes (magma flooding, uncontainable demon horde, etc) the current players will vote on whether to restart from the previous safe save, or begin anew.
4. Use of DFhack is permitted for minor tasks, such as trivial contaminant removal.
4a. DFhack may also be used for more extreme tasks if the fortress would remain alive but unplayable (FPS death) otherwise. e.g. sealing an unreachable magma breach in the lower caverns.
5. Journals are encouraged but not necessary.

List of turns:
1. KingMurdoc - COMPLETE
2. PyroTechno - COMPLETE (in two parts)
3. escondida - COMPLETE (in like five posts)
4. vishdafish - UP NEXT
5. Gwolfski - PENDING
6. crazyabe - SOON(tm)

Dorfing list:

EDIT: Proper thread is here: http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=152677.0

Anyone up for this? Basically, the goal is to incorporate every single visible tile into the fortress in some way, requiring every exposed tile to be worked in some way before moving down to the next objective. I'm thinking the milestones would be this:

1. Surface is claimed. All soil has been channeled away, except for map edges and what is needed to farm. Tree farms must be entirely enclosed with constructed or smoothed walls (roof of bridges if trees won't grow on tiles marked "Inside"). All exposed stone has been smoothed.
6. An outpost has been constructed in Hell. Total reclamation can wait indefinitely (as demons will never stop spawning, making any sort of living space difficult to create.
7. As 2, but created as high as possible above the fortress proper, or fortress proper is extended to meet this requirement.

I'm thinking a volcano embark with a couple unfriendly neighbors, possibly with modded civs in play to increase !!FUN!! potential.

DF Modding / Taking Mod Requests
« on: August 17, 2015, 02:05:02 am »
Lately I've found myself enjoying the modding process more than DF itself, but I'm out of real ideas on what to do, so shoot me some requests. Unless it's playable elves, then give me feature requests because I already made that mod.

Only restriction is that it has to be doable entirely within raws.
