Pressure plates that release captive, vicious animals.
The same, but with a ranged FB or squad of gobbos behind fortifications that shoot at a 1-tile-wide path.
Timed atomsmashing corridors.
A lever that appears to open a door but actually drops a shitload of garbage on you from above hatches/drawbridges.
Drawbridge catapults that fling you at spikes.

See all the red stuff? Not a problem; it snows frozen blood regularly.
See the gray spots? That's FB goo. I don't know how it got there, but everyone who walks outside tracks through it. It hasn't made its way inside, but if the dwarf happens to be missing foot coverings, their feet basically melt, spraying blood everywhere until the dwarf is a disgusting blob of feverish pus and blood. IT's a freezing biome, so a rinse with pumps won't work; the water would freeze nigh-instantly on the surface. I can't really move the entrance over, and dwarves won't take cleaning jobs there. What can I do?

One game in particular, I had full metal equipment in the tree I spawned in. That didn't really change the outcome at all, other than slightly delaying my death. Parries/etc were unaffected.

A cube of up/down stairs would be hell for FPS, because you've now multiplied the number of paths by another coordinate.

I usually start as a Demigod w/maxed Strength and Agility. iirc, Above Average Toughness, Endurance, and Willpower, and High Spatial and Kinesthetic Sense with everything else dumped to some extent except Disease Resistance. I start with Talented Dodger and Shield User, then usually as high as I can go with a weapon after allocatting points for Reader and Swimmer. One character had Wrestler instead with the same results. I'm fighting gobbos when I invariably get ambushed.

Is there any way to disable job cancellations for warm stone? Digging this area out is a huge pain in the ass.

Hmm. I thought I saw 18 hours, but that's not nearly enough to have me operating at sub-optimal capacity. I'll try to go 36 given I've gotten everything that needs to be taken care of done, then I'll show up again.
