The thistles surge upwards and curl around the shot. They don't touch it, but leech off of the heated air that emanates from its path.

In the midst of the combat zone a patch of thistles sprout and grow with surprising speed. The air grows thick with deathly cold and frost, and the grass hardens into ice.

Same program, maybe. But it's not the same instance of the program, and depending on the new computer's specs it could run radically differently.

Presumably, "proven to work" includes not utterly wrecking the person being transferred/encoded/uploaded/murdered-and-replaced-by-a-clone. At least that's what I think that it's getting at. Can't really be sure.

You can't. You'd be doing that in order to try and harm Dwen, so the idea would be removed from your head. I can, though, through ways that I am not willing to reveal to the public right now.

((Indeed. It's mind magic, so it's all in how you think about it. "turn off the field so that the majority can protect themselves from the violent minority" isn't hostile, for example. I could probably manage to go so far as to knock out and (reversibly due to the regen field)paralyze Dwen if I thought about it right. 'I'm protecting him by doing this so he can go before the council rather than getting ripped apart by a vengeful druid' or some such.))
