DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Ghost not showing up for slab?

Yeah, he's probably the reason that my dwarves are all down to the yellow area on happiness from being mostly green (although losing 20 dwarves in the last few sieges probably doesn't help either). So far, though, no tantrums so it'll be okay. Now if I can just survive people getting mad when masterwork clothes get atom-smashed....

I think that once adamantine is available, they'll only take it for a metal.

I'm at my wit's end with these atom-smashers. I smashed a pile, it was great, but the lever is being pulled and the bridge isn't moving. There's a guy who brought a barrel of liquor down there and is drinking on top of the corner of the bridge. Idiot.

I have no engraved slabs that haven't been built. And I have over 3000 dead, but he doesn't appear in the friendly area at least.

I just looked at my stills and saw tons of finished goods on them. So I check, and they're tattered clothes. Apparently dwarven rum makes my dwarves' clothes fall off...

*facepalm*

Yeah, I think I'll leave him for now. Until he gets violent at least. We'll see in the future how it goes.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Ghost not showing up for slab?
« on: July 02, 2014, 07:09:30 pm »
Not sure if this is a bug...I couldn't find anything mentioning it. I have a ghostly swordsdwarf putzing around my fort. He hasn't possessed or even terrified anyone so far, and he's been here at least a game year. I check his name, try to engrave a slab but he doesn't show up in the friendly section for slab engraving. Nor does he pop to the top since he's a ghost (usually they're at the top of the slab menu with Ghost in red lettering...).

I'm afraid I may have designated his body for dumping months ago and smashed it...but I thought that, as long as there was a ghost around, you could engrave a slab regardless of the body's status. I've searched my whole fort for his body but can't find it...I've un-forbidden everything outside on every level to no avail.

Can anybody offer advice? Either how to find his body through a menu I might not know or how to get rid of the ghost? I play 100% vanilla DF with therapist on the side.

Brought the laptop into the kitchen to refer to a recipe, and didn't stop playing (I was trading with the Mountainhomes! New weapons for my traps!). Laptop battery died one minute before I was done to bring it back to the charger.
Why not use mains power?

Didn't want to disentangle the cord. Laziness at its finest!

My new design, once I finish this fort and start the next, features a windy 3-wide road lined with traps on all sides. Wagons can get through, everybody else sets off the traps. It takes forever to make though. I've also been working on a 3-z level archery platform over my outdoor pasture/farm area. Oh, and 8 cage traps lining my drawbridge so I can get fighting practice for my militia...

Initially, I stone/cage trap my hallway.

Finally got both atom-smashers up and running and pulled one of the levers. Instantly realize that a retracting bridge =/= atom smasher. It just fluffs the stuff around. I ran the other one (finally got over losing a few non-trash pieces, including a bit of iron) just to satisfy my need to destroy stuff, then designated the retracting bridge for removal. I'll re-build it...I like being able to sort stuff from one zone to the other to keep good stuff from being smashed. Hooray.

Maybe I should go deep enough to get magma...don't have any yet.

Perhaps I should've left a wider road for the traders to enter/exit my fort. Humans left just as my dwarven traders arrived...my road is a windy 3-wide one lined with traps...maybe I'll get free stuff out of this if they scuttle the wagons...

If you use the activity zone menu to mouse over an activity zone, you can press A to toggle active/inactive. That makes it very easy to switch between different dump zones while your dwarves are working on different dump tasks. Just be aware that the dump destination is locked in when a dwarf picks up an item for dumping, and they won't change mid-route.

That's how I got them to start dumping there...the problem is that there is iron armor and weapons there (I still haven't found iron in my fortress, just silver) and I do NOT want those smashed. So I've un-forbid them and am waiting for them to get picked up.

Ownrag has one working atom smasher. Unfortunately, the stuff taken from caged gobbos goes there so I haven't smashed anything yet. The second smasher is close to being done.

We've got another section of the roof for the walled-in pasture plus archery range (against sieges) going...it's slow but moving. I added another 10x10 section of floor on the top level, maybe 1.5 rows are done.

We had an axedwarf in the hospital who survived for 3 months without food or water. She has an ability to grasp somewhat impaired. I finally was able to successfully burrow several medical dwarves in the hospital and she has FINALLY gone from starving/dehydrated to just needing her right hand fixed. Diagnosis is complete and she's been cleaned and is being sutured; after being sutured and dressed, she'll be good to go with some well-deserved R&R time.

Night, all!

Just had a FB make it into my fort...not sure how really. I think he was a flier, but was relatively easy to take out. He killed a war dog and blue peahen before I noticed him, killed one unfortunate civilian in his way, and then was taken out by two flying alpaca bone bolts. He dropped a bunch of frozen forgotten beast extracts, but I'm not testing those out. I only have one other dwarf in my military now that was involved - ability to grasp somewhat lost. We can manage that. :)

Elven traders arrived, finally with the female leopard to complement the male I already had. Needless to say, I was stoked. Then I was less than stoked when a vile force of darkness arrived. I managed to trade for the two leopards they had before the siege was a problem (they really like killing off all of the chained alarm animals I have out there...which I won't complain about!). I let a squad of gobbos in, pulled the drawbridge, and stationed my military at the entrance of my fort. The traps took most of them, and I re-opened the drawbridge for the next squad. The bridge atom-smashed several into oblivion, and the next round to come in also was disposed of easily. I only lost 3 dwarves.

Side note: I have several caged trolls. Will they destroy buildings if I have them chained for target practice?

I had an order to make a bridge for my atom-smasher. Being impatient, I already started marking stuff for dumping to the zone I had directly below. I finally get enough stones to said bridge...and Bridge was suspended due to item blocking site. I had hundreds of items already dumped there! ajfalkjfdsga;oihfaoijlkfdasfdaoiufdavcxjklfdsa Well, I'll un-forbid them and hope that my poor, sad architect can just move them all. Sucker! And also hope that they don't get moved too far...
