When I follow a dwarf, they aren't anywhere near the middle of my screen. I have a 16x16 Phoebus graphics pack and the 10x12 font that comes with Dwarf Fortress if that helps with debugging.

What ever is in the readme you can override, there's no max number of tiles you can override, you can use more than 10 tilesets withh 256 16x16 tiles in it for example. You can go over 256 tiles within a tileset with twbt from what I read so don't let that limit you.

I must be going mad. I swear the readme file said "look at overrides.txt" and the overrides.txt file said "look at the readme" earlier today.

With overrides.txt, am I still restricted to 512 unique tile images, or can I have a unique tile for each item type and building type?

Corpses contain all the information about every wound on them, including how much pain it caused, when it happened, who did it, whether the wound got infected...

Unfortunately, Dwarf Fortress never displays that, but the data's there for the future, I guess.

I've killed at least 5 vampires and drank all their blood and I still get hungry and can't see blood through walls.

What does "rumored killer" mean in this context? Is it a good thing or a bad thing?

I finally decided to start a new character. I'm going to save as much as possible on this one so I lose minimal progress when it inevitably crashes. I decided to ask the lord of this human hamlet (who is a goblin but nobody seems to mind) about all the troubles they've been having. He listed some "criminals" several days of travel away (I assume they were just other towns he didn't like) and lots of beasts, which were anything from dragons and hydras with thousands of kills to a leopard that annoyed someone and never harmed anyone. I realized that the goblin wasn't paying full attention to me. He was having conversations with his guards in between sentences. I guess I'm not as important as I thought.

I killed a bandit group that had been harassing a town (the leader escaped, so I didn't get credit) and then I went to another bandit camp at night across a huge river, killed all 10+ goblins at the camp with spear jabs to the throat (my upper spine was bruised but I got better on the way back) and discovered their stockpile of tens of thousands of coins. I grabbed all the coins, went back across the river (almost drowning in the process), and found my home hamlet. I --

Does the game know who animated the elf zombies, or were they generated from nonexistent corpses by a nonexistent necromancer to fill space?

The first adventurer I started in v0.40.10 (a new world for a new version) started in a human town with a market being sieged by zombie elves. The elves weren't named until they killed a few people and their descriptions said they were animated by "forces unknown". I didn't have culling enabled when I generated the world, and there's no nearby tower as far as I can remember. Where did the zombies come from and why did they start attacking the market when I started my character?

DF General Discussion / Re: Macros: How to?

Make a dwarf with the armor you want, then ctrl+r and make another dwarf (the armor should be pre-selected at this point), then push ctrl+r again to stop recording, then ctrl+u to select the number of repetitions, then type 98 (the remaining number of dwarves) and then push ctrl+p.

Don't move the mouse off of Dwarf Fortress while the macro is running or it'll stop. It's an annoying bug, but we have to live with it for now.

How much data about historical figures is stored after that figure dies? Is, for example, the hair color of that person retained after they're killed?
