Hazardous Stapler KombatChoose your character from nine coworkers in a software development firm who have finally had enough of each other (plus three special unlockable characters; the Chinese food delivery boy, the mailman, and the firm's chimp mascot Bobo). Proceed to pick up your trusty stapler, with which you will inflict extremely painful (but not fatal) damage upon those crapheads from the cubicles adjacent to your own.

Cantankerous Monkey Gone WildA spin-off sequel of Hazardous Stapler Kombat. Bobo has escaped from the office and has made it back to his natural habitat by stowing away on a cargo ship, but he doesn't know the first thing about survival without somebody to hand him kit-kat bars and skinny lattes. Guide Bobo on his epic journey from office chimp to King of the Jungle.

Geriatric Squirrel TycoonOne day, while mowing your lawn, you suddenly realize that there are squirrels everywhere. And yet nobody owns squirrels, in spite of the fact that they are cuter than rats, they have fuzzy tails, and have an awesome ability to stuff nuts in their cheeks. As the first person to realize the huge and unfulfilled market for squirrels, you must catch enough of them to satisfy popular demand. Unfortunately you're not fast enough to catch the young, limber squirrels, so you must settle for the next best thing...

« on: June 11, 2012, 09:31:05 am »This is apparently 75% off at steam. I feel like I should give it a try, how steep is the learning cliff?
EDIT: Are the dlc any good? What do they do?
Oh, it's COMPLETELY worth it. I bought it at full price and that was still well worth it.
The learning curve isn't steep if you start off with a larger power. Starting with one-province counts and whatnot can be quite difficult, but that's more of a challenge thing you can do after you've played for a while.
As for the DLC... I wouldn't really recommend any of them so far, unless you just want to throw more money at Paradox, which certainly isn't a bad thing. The ruler creator is kind of neat, but not really useful, and the music pack is decent but it doesn't do a lot to increase the variety (better to just insert your own music or community music mod - or do what I do and just leave Pandora on in the background with a 'Greensleeves' station or somesuch, since that'll be period-appropriate).
The upcoming Sword of Islam DLC, on the other hand, looks really interesting and seems well worth the extra bucks.

Sorry, not quite sure what you mean, Scelly - are you asking if you can just switch out the current tileset for a pure-ASCII one?
If so, the answer is no. There are additional characters in there that would need to be replicated that aren't in standard ASCII sets.

I don't know if you could technically call it ASCII, since it does use non-ASCII characters (in addition to ASCII characters). Probably not.
It is all text, though, since one of libTCOD's limitations (barring the use of being able to draw on the SDL surface, which is something I'm currently working on figuring out) is that it uses all monochromatic text characters.

They're mean. They have huge spurs and they're not afraid to use 'em. It's why I never get out of the car to try to shoo them away even when I encounter large groups of them that sit in the middle of the road for minutes at a time. I used to have a dog that was smart enough to walk off of his leash with us in the woods, and he loved to chase those things. Luckily for him, he never caught up to one.

« on: June 10, 2012, 04:47:18 pm »Very few animals can tell that a car is coming for them. Almost everything about a car is built to break their neurological wiring - it simply doesn't move like something that's approaching, especially something the animal needs to move away from. You can see this even in kids - especially from straight on, they simply have great difficulty in telling if a car is stopped or actually moving towards them.
In summary: Ducks are going to continue being stupid and standing in the road until evolution does it's thing.
Hm, I haven't had many duck-in-the-road encounters. Turkeys, on the other hand... at least four or five times a summer, my drive is interrupted by a literal horde of fifteen or twenty turkeys who proceed to mill about in the road, completely ignoring the huge, metallic honking monster revving its engine at them from a few feet away. They just blithely strut around and gobble. Bastards.

Don't worry, Steve does not think this is anything like what will go in the game.
I think it is highly likely that whatever it is will still be a bit creepy - just the nature of the beast.
I love this project, and I've been following it since it first appeared. But yeah... he really does seem to have a fondness for weird, creepy looking things.

« on: June 10, 2012, 07:18:36 am »This might have been asked earlier in the thread, but how do you plan to combine the randomness of the world with the rewards you give to backers? I, for one, am not interested in seeing other people in my random games.
I think what I'm going to do is simply include options within the game itself for this kind of stuff. Backers will have a 'Force Civ/Character Generation' option, in which they will be able to input a code that will force the world generator to insert their character/civ into the generation process. Non-backers will be able to turn the self-inserts off at their behest through the options menu, if they so choose, by just ticking a box (though I think I'll leave it unticked by default, as a courtesy to backers).
