Not to be pedantic but.. 'bought the rights'? I love modders, but they're the ones using Paradox's code to (with simplified text files and such) produce content.

I suspect it doesn't matter much when the content matches THAT closely. Those provinces are literally a tit-for-tat matchup to what's in AE. Go download 1.05f + AE (or Balansegang) yourself and see what I mean.

Well, we'll see what happens. It won't be the end of the world if it doesn't succeed, it'll just mean I'll have to put this into the background again. But hey, Dwarf Fortress was developed 'in the background' for quite a while as well, IIRC, so it's not a huge deal.

At any rate, anybody who can't contribute financially but wants to help out - just spread the word somehow. Reddit, facebook, external forums you're a member of, etc - all are more helpful than you realize. One link can do *wonders* for a project like this, so please don't hesitate if you feel even a bit enthusiastic about the game.  :P

Hm.

You can actually download all of those provinces in user mods (Balansegeng, for instance, and I think the original mod is something like African Expansion). I'm assuming they actually bought the rights to those mods from users (which is awesome, in a way), because it looks EXACTLY like AE, but that does make me wonder why I'd pay for something that's technically free already.

What I'm really wondering, though, is how this is really different from playing as Christians/Pagans. I mean, did they improve the Jihad somehow? Did they add additional Muslim-only events? I want to know what I'm getting that I can't just download via the usermod forum, because from what I saw in the video, I've already pretty much got all of that via mods (added traits, the African expansion, etc), and hell, you can already turn Muslim characters on with some *very* simple tinkering.

That said, I will be buying this if there's anything I can't get for free already. I didn't get the ruler mod thing just because I though it was silly and unnecessary (and again, basically free if you can mod even a little bit), but if they're offering something with even a little original content and functionality, it's worth it to support them. IMHO this is easily the best game of 2012 so far by a longshot.

Bring a couple of flares. Better to be on the safe side.

MY BRAIN IS FULL OF DAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWW

Yep, they do tend to have that effect. It's how they lure you into thinking they're completely innocent so they can chew all of your shoes and furniture into oblivion.

I think we established that "pork" was on the list because of swine flu pandemic type stuff. But looking over the whole list, it strikes me that if you were to repost any kind of FEMA advisory or news articles about the threat of a terrorist attack, you'd be flagged five ways from Sunday because they would contain many of these terms. I gotta think is deliberate disinformation.

That makes a lot more sense. Their list is ridiculously nonsensical, to be honest, other than that it contains some very obvious words related to national defense and such that most people could think of.

They probably cross-referenced and weighted all existing terrorist communications as per my earlier post, then put out this list as a red herring.

278
Hm. I wonder.

I figure they got this list one of two ways:
1. Office workers sitting around and deciding which words were best, in which case this is probably HIGHLY inaccurate for such a list.
2. They actually compiled all records of terrorist communications in their possession, then got the list by weighting words based on the scarcity of the words in normal communications versus how often it appeared in terrorist communications.

I mean, either 'pork' appeared unusually frequently in terrorist communications, or some fatass desk executive in the CIA decided it was listworthy.

Somehow I missed this thread entirely (I didn't make the 'zombie' connection at all, oops). It's the same case, the one I posted in WTF just has more details released than the OP here.

Quote
The grisly assault on a homeless man whose face was eaten by a deranged assailant lasted for 18 agonizing minutes and was captured on nearby surveillance cameras.

Rudy Eugene, who authorities suspect may have been high on a dangerous new street drug known as "bath salts," had to be shot four times by a police officer to halt the cannibalistic attack.

The victim, Ronald Poppo, 65, is in critical condition after police say 75 percent of his face was devoured by Eugene.

Footage taken by security cameras at the nearby Miami Herald building show most of the 18 gory minutes of Eugene's growling and vicious attack on Poppo when Eugene ate the man's nose, mouth and eyes.

O.o

@Neonivek: Totally understand! I've donated to a few Kickstarters myself, but believe me, if I were able to donate to every project that I thought looked cool, it would be dozens rather than a few.  ::)

@EagleV: Thanks, will do!

I also wanted to mention that Shook has very generously agreed to allow the use of his AWESOME pixel art for the Kickstarter project!  :D I think the retro-style pixel art will really go hand-in-hand with Cult's aesthetic sensibilities. He's already put together one very cool picture just for the game/project, and I'm going to be using some of his prior work as well, because it's already a good match. Naturally, I'm really hoping to get this Kickstarter off the ground so that I can bribe encourage both him and Sentientdeth to keep making awesome art and music.

The construction system is finally nearing completion (whew!). It'll feel good to have that milestone behind me so I can move on to more context-heavy stuff, like adding the rest of the biomes.

I'm planning on launching the Kickstarter within the next week or so, and obviously I'll post updates on that.
