8th Granite, First year of Revenge.

Camp has started to take shape. For diminutive rat-lizards, these kobolds can cut down trees fairly adequately. The river hasn't shown any signs of unfreezing, nor have the several semi-large bodies of water scattered around amongst the trees. A campfire was started, and abruptly put out by me when it was clear that these savages haven't the faintest idea of how to prevent a fire from engulfing the surrounding scrub and woodland.

A butcher has been set up, alonside a tanner and a couple of other crude workshops, just to start getting some tents up, keep this snowdrift from encasing us while we sleep. I have gotten the woodcarver doglizards to start on easy things, crude utensils for a small kitchen, for cooking vermin. should help our Rats to last until breeding time passes around.

We have a very small amount of meat to spread among our Bolds, but the only animal to hunt is currently a faedog, which I am working on some mechanisms to complement our cage in a effort to catch the damned thing. A first line of defense to safeguard ourselves and our oh so precious drakes would be appreciated. I have started erecting a log palisade for just this purpose, with everyone not engaged in more important (or make work to prevent accidents, like with our herbalist) duties currently dragging the smaller logs to create a wall. A crude weapon rack has been set up next to our wood stockpile, to allow our kobolds some experience if fighting, we currently have 6 of our 20 dispensable minions (I as the 21st, am not dispensable) in the military, headed by Jaso, and seconded by Gunarex, with a squealing mass of idiots trying to follow the semi-garbled instructions they are given.

TemptsFate (A name I gave this kobold, as I always put him on scouting duties on the way here.... he has the most annoying high pitched cackle when amused.) has been taken off hunting duties, which I put to Matarata, and TemptsFate has been told to steal what he can. Apparently he needs a tunnel of some sort for this, as opposed to just walking away from camp until he finds something but such things could be arranged fairly easily.

The is a Kobold here, a smith just like in RegalDoom my previous abode that hellhole from where I lost my Jreb, who smell disturbingly similar to one of the skeletons who I used to boss around. Therefor instead of JeniBoibinins, he has been named TenderRoast, to keep them straight in my mind. I have set him a duty far from the fire, the wood or the currently being dismantled remains of the wagon, as the first thing he did when he saw the fire was dive his hands in, and grab one of the red embers, and start trowing them at the other kobolds. Thankfully our Dragons Claws (Or maybe Rat Meat) squad managed to subdue him with some pointy sticks and a deserved beating. He and the burned kobolds are under the care of what passes for a physician here, the only kobold who seemingly gives a damn about any other Bold. Name of Kayben, Kaytab, Kaytavo.... something along those lines anyway.

Only one other Kobold of note in our group currently, who is a very disgruntled fisherman. I have put him (Calls himself Mithril Leaf, I've started with Mithy, and it seems to have stuck.) on marking out where he can fish when the ice melts, and to keeping other kobolds off 'his' fishing areas. with any luck, this restriction will result in less kobold deaths come Thaw, as opposed tMithys body being found in a snowdrift in a few weeks because someone got pissed at him.

"Or as they belive, as a bunch of 5 years old"
Funny that 5 years is actually a mature age for a kobold (they die at 15 or so).

Yay! I did too much poking around to not have that gotten by someone! Thanks Mate!

Masterwork DF / Re: [INSECTS] - Swarm Race Ideas
« on: May 14, 2014, 09:42:25 am »
This is the best idea I have heard in a long time.

I love the grazing areas affecting the races development, truly inspired.

A few ideas, not necessarily good ones mind;

Larvae Ammunition for Spore launchers, as in reaction reagent for a ranged syndrome.

would it fit to have Savage grazing giving something like Bonecarn to the bigger, harder to control ones so spawned? (If possible, not a modder sorry) just a thought on possible, !FUN! routes to go through.

Possibly have calm biome grazing give a very small debuff, as the food isn't robust enough, so, almost echoing malnutrition or similar. If you take savage to mean better food (that fights back), to support more life?

Can the bite attacks be more dangerous by default? e.g. Mandibles or similar on the warrior drones?

Also, just flavour wise, do you want the hive to look outside itself for things like pets and such, or to simply adapt to meet a need? Pets that are simply part of the hive, as opposed to dogs and such for the other races.(Like you already said, or at least implied with the swarmlord)

If your absences while riding through exotic locales inspire these kinds of ideas, we may need to try to get you to go more frequently, instead of trying to keep you modding full time Meph :P

1st Granite, two years since being Kobolded. - A Bold Start.

It has been over a month since I last had the opportunity to write in the tongue of my birth. The plan to leave quietly in the night was mostly successful, with all members showing up when the moon rose with their assigned equipment and travelling stuff, except for one 'bright' young idiot named Jayceedee. He ended up showing up with an ogre as assigned, but he had, fore some reason decided to take his favourite ogre, as opposed to the strongest female as instructed.

This decrepit gray ogre seemed to creak in every joint as it moved, its ancient face eagerly following Jayceedee's small body like a... giant puppy that kills things by sitting on them. while promptly breaking both its wind and its hip.

Not a big deal.

We sneaked out of the settlement, fairly easily really, considering most of the night guards had been recruited to The Cult of Dragons.

Then the next day came our pursuit. Kobold raiding parties, following our tracks, hounding us day and night as we fled. The old ogre kept falling behind, so the order was given to butcher it. for our supplies. (Not by me of course, I was there, comforting poor Jayceedee over this tradgedy, as Gunarex ((GunnerX)) took care of the body, thereby garnering more support amongst the ranks for my compassion and such.

Jaso, my new militia leader was given the command to trek north, away from the warmer lands to where dragons lie.

Or almost dragons, at any rate. Drakes. Thankfully we had a cage with us, and were able to catch a breeding pair with minimal casualties at this early stage of my rise. apparently, they find Ogre meat delicious. Having found our new Idols, and the foundation of my followers belief, I headed us west. Squalls of snow buried the badlands we trekked through, slowing our cold blood to a crawl, until yesterday we finally managed to hit the edge of the forest, and what appears to be a frozen river. We must find a way to melt it, as we are too cold and tired to travel further. I name this place SinBad, in commemoration for what the gods of the Dark did against me. Or, as my followers believe (like a bunch of 5 year olds) what we shall do against the enemies of the Cult.

     How right they are.

29th Opal, 1 year after losing my Human form, and Jreb.

I will not be challenging the chief to combat after all. Some elves attacked, their lithe limbs clad in the glass armour I remember so well, and they seemed to simply carve their way into the camp in a flurry of grace and dismembered kobold limbs, until the Chief and his Son came out from their tent.
They both bellowed in rage and charged in, growing huge and looking something like a cross between a bear and a kobold, and started ripping the elves limb from limb. And cursed form or not, I prefer my limbs intact and attached. It seems my Dragon Cult being of around 20 members (which is more than any of them can count, I’m sure) will be stealing some weapons tonight, and leaving this camp before the challenge comes from the Chief. Jreb needs me, and I need my revenge. And for those, I need to survive. Maybe we can 'appropriate' an ogre or something.

27th Opal, 1 year since transformation.

I have scratched the idea of a ‘Rat Cult’, as rats just aren’t impressive enough, after listening to the gabble that passes as intellectual conversation here, fur and meat don’t seem to impress any of them in the slightest.

Scaly and deadly do, however.

I have started recruiting worshippers, a small few words here, a small charm spell there, and I have the beginnings of a following, for The Cult of the Dragon.I plan to depose this Idiot chieftain, druid or not, and gather up as many of his moronic followers as I can on my quest for Jreb, safety, and freedom.
My sleeping in the Witches hut has apparently raised some eyebrows (not that these Doglizards have any) giving the Chief more reason to keep watch of me. Apparently rivalries between the crude ‘castes’ of magic these Kobolds have are not usually apparent, but then again, I am quite unusual by the standards in play here.
Apparently, in order to win the head of the tribe, there is either a tribal vote, or you need to kill the previous chieftain and take his place, after killing off any loyalist remnants (or ‘den kill de friendsss’ as my new Witching apprentice insists on saying), so I shall gather my strength soon, and make my challenge.

Boldings, and continuation (or rather, the start of the game) will happen with any luck within the week. slight modem replacement problems.

Also do you have any particular goal beyond survival and Rat worship?

Make a good story, that hopefully shows off a few features of Kobolds, and MWDF in general for me.... For the main character it wall be revenge from the last story, and anything the character thinks up on the way.

Oh and it won't necessarily turn out to be rat worship, character musing.

Muahahahahahahha!

24
Indeed it is, in the Pre-Play story stage.

Naming and profession requests are open, and any kobolds not named will be left with all professions that aren't taken by a character enabled.

e.g Urist McPibkac wants to be Jim, the Butcher. He will be given the butcher labour, nicknamed 'Jim', or possibly 'Tiberius' and all others (unless needed, or a silly request) will have it disabled.

Also, any requests for personality or generally anything different will be seriously considered, and probably implemented if I can find a plausible way.

22rd Opal, 1 year since transformation.

I have been accepted into the Kobold village, and have been the subject of both ridicule and fear. I found out today that I am female. As my human life was spent as a male, I am worried and slightly scared of what this might mean. I have been labeled a witch, mostly thanks to my quick thinking of using a spell taught to me by my former master, the OverPrat.
A quick blast of webbing seemingly helped encourage the Kobold that was attempting to mount me to stay pressed against the far wall of the Large hut for the next several hours, and with that, I was given my own small 'room' in this joke of a hovel as part of being the tribes only 'Witch'. the chieftain seems annoyed with me, he doesn't seem to like competition, with only he and his Son currently with any magic abilities. something to do with bears apparently.

I think I shall have to introduce some sort of false religion as a way to get these morons to follow me, and do my bidding. Maybe worshiping a rat or something? they seem to have enough around.

As the Warlocks and the Kobolds came in at a draw, I have decided that Warlocks shall be put off, as they have a tower (however short) already.

The new thread is at http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=138295.0 and with any luck, it will be a shade of awesome.

Legend of Sinbad, and the Kobold Cult.
The Diary of the Cursed and vengeful.

The thick, crudely crafted leatherbound tome in front of you in encrusted with bone, and threatens with spikes of Heresy and Truth.

A Foreword, for any who may read this, and know the truth when I am gone. I am Human. My body is not, I have the scales, and diminutive stature. The tail, droopy ears, doglike stature and ridiculously high voice. My mouth refuses to find the sounds of my language, instead yipping and growling in this barbarically inept tongue. For my crimes, and my disobedience in my former station in life, I have been cursed by my master and his gods to wear the form of a pathetic Kobold.

Tomorrow I will need to head to the end of the valley to join the large gathering of kobolds there, in the large thatch huts, as the prickle berries I managed to forage tasted like I was eating grass, and my stomach kept heaving them up long after I was empty.

I shall not give up however, my vengeance shall be had, and my life retaken, and if I need to have thousands of these cretinous doglizards sacrificed for it, then so be it. I will be human again. and I will find my love. Jreb, I will find you and tear down any who threaten us ever again.

Current Bold'ing requests and possibly random musings;

Mithril Leaf – Fisherman - done.
GunnerX – Bald Chin – Bereft of scales? - done.
Jaso11111 – Magic or soldier - done.
TemptsFate – fisherman/military/mage/thief - done.
TenderRoast – pyromaniac personality, smith of some sort. - well done to burnt.
Meph – Ursus/a (Druid) – Old. Dislikes Jreb. - in progress, asap, have to be nice cos he made the mod and might take out stuff I like.
Matarata – Hunter - done, kills things.
Kaytavo (Male) or Kaytanya (female) Tovani – Friendly, loyal, likes other bolds in general. – Medical? - Done.
Jcd – stupid, happy, optimistic – herbalist/soldier - half done. at best.
CaptainLambcake - not fussy, and it shall be his doom. - In progress, asap.
Isngrim - male Witcher, worships luck, distrusts Dragon cult. Shall probably be fed to the drakes as a result. - in progress, asap.

Alright, due to the "overwhelming" response, It seems lizardlike Rats are the next Story Fort. Or shallow stinking hole in the ground. Either way. I'll start up a new thread and be taking naming and other requests there.

Unless more voters with a different opinion turn up before I get the chance to play and write the first bit, at which point, I'll lock voting and declare the racial winner.

Should be in the next days or so.

also, MerkerBenson; I love deadlines. I especially like the whooshing noise they make as they go past.

29
I could, but I couldn't see either Jreb or Heznh doing it with those personalities. plus the whole "they hurt me, Kill Them All!" is fairly entertaining, and suited an egocentric warlock fairly well.

10th Slate, 113. Hail the MeadLord, King of the Underhalls of Iton Rivol. A final, tearsoaked and half ripped page has been found and pieced together, reading as the last journal entry of Mekhelb Khetyeyalhewaha, Former Overlord of RegalDoom, and tells of the end of the shortlived threat to our Kingdom. All personal effects and sorcerous Artefacts and Artifices have been collected and turned to the furnaces as ordered Sire. The Brewery has been given orders for free rounds for the 3rd legion as compensation to the poor dwarves who had to face that mess. The captain reports that the Undead boiled out of the Tower, after several months of seige and taking potshots at the walls, and it was only disciplined crossbow fire, room to room fighting and their trusty rose gold armour that saw them through. All Warlocks and walking corpses named in the logs have been accounted for amongst the dead and burnt. Praise Armok, May he never Tire of our Trials.

26th Obsidian. The Final Year of RegalDoom, and its broken Master. 112.

I have seen death. The genocidal campaigns of my old master, torture of flesh being peeled from bones, tendons ripped and ligaments torn, magic that wastes flesh away while keeping the subject concious, and have employed most of these methods for power, pleasure, personal adornment and general amusement.

I, the formerly pretentious Mekhelb have never lost any sleep, nor given a thought to the fate of any of these pathetic wretches, beyond fond imaginings of more pain and death to fill my days. However, I have not slept in almost three weeks. My nails go unkept, and my face has sprouted hair like a weed, watered by my tears, and the rich fertilizer of my underlings words to me. I now cut a figure in my now unwashed and grey robes of some hedge wizard, who could cavort with myriad dirty dwarves, or gnomes, and never seem out of place.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The ghost of the Ghoul who attacked me, did no lasting physical or mental harm, beyond delivering knowledge. I go soon, to fix what  must be fixed, and to set aright the great wrong done to me. The Ghost, in it's cruelty left an awareness inside me, of doings within my own Tower between my unfaithful Steward, and the darkness that guides my dreaming hours, Jreb, the Beautiful Lie. They are together, sworn as Man and Wife, not Warlock to Witch, denying me even the respect due my station, by withholding this apparently trivial piece of heartrending information.

I shall raise all the mindless undead within range, Ordering them to kill every living thing that walks, crawls or flies. I shall be expending even my own powerful soul if need be, to destroy the trivial dwarfish threat, and my ever faithfully bacKStaBBING HORRIBLE BILE WORHTY TRAITOUROUS LYING CUCKOO BIRDS IN MY MIDST! May The Dark Enter Your Soul, you snivelling traitorous worms. So Sayeth I in the Name of RegalDoom, in the Way of the Warlock Covenant.
