If it's the magma sea you're worried about, I recall making the Golemforge such that it blocks the magma below itself with its unpathable squares.  It's my habit to do so - critters, even building destroyers, aren't supposed to be able to get up through that.

If I'm informed correctly.

Its not that, its that you have to go through dangerous places to get to it. I think that you have to go either through the Hammer site or the 3rd cavern to get there.

20th timber: The fortess seems... wrong somehow.  WE devote Our attention to the demons below, but they are not causing the trouble


30th timber: Its getting hard to concentrate on anything. I am told that WE are getting pale and pallid

10th moonstone: The ringing is getting worse. I have taken to speaking at all times to drown it out. BUT IT DOESN'T WORK. It just keeps getting louder and louder.

From the minutes of the secret rebel meeting:
PeaSant: We can't let this go on any longer. We're losing good dwarves to this "Arcvasti"'s madness. First beloved McMeph gone and now Olin hasn't been seen in weeks. This is the time for action, not sitting in abandoned rooms and chatting!

Talanic: We can't move on him yet, he has the loyalty of the animated weapons, they'd tear us to shred even through our adamantine.

Urist: PeaSant is right. We can't just let this lie, Arcvasti is insane. I've heard him talking or muttering to himself. Why just the last day he had a shouting match with himself and gouged out his eardrums.

Kamikazi: Talking to himself, self-mutilation. Delay the plan another month, I've got something I think will help.

Scrawled in blood on Arcvasti's walls:

IT WON'T STOP. LISTEN TO ME, MAKE IT STOP
NO, YOU ARE NOTHING, WE ARE HERE NOW
MAKE IT STOP. MAKE THE NOISE STOP I CAN STILL HERE IT, LIKE A WATCH COVERED IN COTTEN

Arcvasti ran out of his office, blood streaming from his mutilated face and hands. "Urist!" he cried "You don't need to try to hide it anymore. You didn't think WE already knew? Dissemble no more, WE know where he is. Dig up the soil in the abandoned pasture. Olin lies there, murdered by my own hand. I ADMIT THE DEED FREELY, JUST MAKE HIS HEART STOP"
He started trying to gouge his eyes out, before Kamikazi grabbed him. He dragged the shrieking and bloodied Arcvasti to the surface. To the animal enclosure. To one specific cage. The Ward of Armok stared deep with into Arcvastis unseeing eyes.
LEAVE, FOUL DEMON, RETURN TO THY NEST BELOW. TROUBLE NOT THIS SERVANT OF ARMOK

Arcvasti woke up in his bed in his office. His injuries as well as his soul had been healed. The people of Cathedral had forgiven his actions while posessed, but they would no longer accept him as leader. The minister of immigration smiled at his new freedom and walked to the townportal to summon a sucesser more worthy then he.

Wait, Kamikazi is my aunt? Liking the story so far.  :) Also maybe build a minecart grinder. Masterwork has all those lovely spiked minecarts which go unused so often. They need some love. And I've never seen one in action, but they're supposed to be awesome for relatively few materials.

How dangerous is their breath attacks, and what sort of range do they have?

No idea. I haven't even looked at the demons.

Do any of the demons have breath attacks because if they don't we could use lond range weapons like guns/spears to take down the demonds and then use bolts on the undead beacuase if i rember undead use a hit point system.

The demons definitely have breath attacks. They spam them non-stop. And I'm not sure there are very many undead left alive ATM. Combat logs are just frost wraiths breathing at things.

On another note. I just found some platinum Greaves. The wiki doesn't seem to list Platinum in its list of materials, I have to imagine that they're better than Steel for armor, yes?

Not really. Platinum isn't a weapon metal in Valnilla DF because its only really good for denseness and value. It makes pretty good hammers and nobles furniture, but horrible everything else. It might be worth using if its an artifact though. Also, I would recommend putting this kind of stuff in [DWARF]-Gameplay questions, rather then here.

Lol it's cool. Maybe you can answer this for me:

Any chance my adventurer can make weapons/armor better than stone/bone stuff? It seems like I can smelt a bunch of bars from metal I find in the game. Not too sure what I can do with these bars.

I'm currently sitting on a stash of ~30 bifrost bars from killing a dungeon full of Frost Giants.
Maybe start another thread called Adventure mode discussion or something? This is a bit of a derail from talking about fort mode warlocks.

Sorry for bit of an unrelated question. I tried searching the forums but didn't find anything.

You know how in Vanilla DF you can zoom in on the tiles with wither square brackets "[]" or the mouse wheel?

It doesn't seem to work with Masterwork. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I believe that you zoom in or out with either 1 and 2 or f1 and f2. If you zoom out with rendermax enabled, the game crashes.

I am next. It seems that it will be rather difficult to recover from the current position.
Not really. We've got enough food and drink to last forever at this population. We have a sulf-sustaining source of precious metals for dwarves through Kamiakazi and later Talonis_wolf. Plus, everyone is clothed so no tantrums will be hapening on that count. As for the siege and the demons, I was working on researching a golemforge(As other golemforge discovery item was too dangerous to retrieve) for the latter and a minecart grinder to aid with the former. I was also building a volcanic oracle of armok, because religion themes. Plus, I've got the military training again, so that should help with something or other. The forts pretty well off right now.

I'll put up the save with an in-story explanation for my dwarfs... retirement sometime tomorrow.

2nd moonstone: We've begun the construction of the automated defense system for the entrance. will_tuna is taking to it admirably and will probably have his part done by the end of the month. Nothing so far on the demon-killing front as avdpos is constructing the prison instead of researching.

6th moonstone: Work on the upper defenses has been delayed by animated weapons standing in the way. They have been relocated. Shasad has also finally started on the candelabras We'd ordered he make. The prison has finally finished construction.

9th moonstone: Avdpos has finally gotten to his research. The upper defenses are mostly finished and the candelabras are halfway through being done. Also We have enough funds for another migrant. And this just hapened:

12th moonstone: We've sent the minister of mechanics, "Stormbuilder" to equip the upped defenses. Avdpos's research is still going strong. We have summoned a new dwarf who calls himself "danmanthedog" We've set him to making clothes for himself and Taloniswolf when he's done meditating.

15th moonstone:
Talonis_wolf went right back in to become a priest.
We've also ordered that the Axes of Armok begin training once more in the abandoned lever room in the southwest

18th moonstone: avdpos's research was inconclusive. We've ordered him to start from the ground up. will_tuna has begun work on the 2nd level of upper defenses.

22nd moonstone: Everyone, including talonis_wolf has clothes now. We've mandated that danmanthedog work on a... special project

25th moonstone: The upper defenses have run into mechanical diffculties and have been delayed.

26th moonstone: We've started a burial spree with the new coffin hallway. There are a lot of dead dwarves...
