General piece of advice, you should leave berserk rage and lignification behind once you get past, I dunno, Orc or Lair.  Their stat boosts get less impressive as the game goes on, and the larger numbers and variety of enemies that can wander into a fight punish anything that limits your options.

I dispute that. Lignification grants Torment immunity, which can be very useful in Extended, especially Tomb.

Fear is useless because all these monsters have decent MR Invis is useless because the two most dangerous ones[Gold Dragon and Sphinx] can both see invisible. Ambrosia might be worth it, considering how many potions of curing you have, but berserk rage will get you killed, probably before it even wears off.
GD and Sphinx can end this in one move with bad luck, so excluding other monsters can boost a chance of survival. Ambrosia+Berserk may be able to last until treeform ends, but you're probably right here. Still, simply drinking cure is pretty suicidal with such EV.

They've also got 51 AC, which is nothing to sneeze at. Sphinx could still OHK them with Smite, but that could happen no matter what action you choose.

I'd drink as many curing potions as it takes to get into a zone where you won't die in one not-healing turn and then recharge your wand of healing and then use that instead. If your hp is enough to survive one turn at any point after you've recharged the wand, haste yourself. The extra speed should help you keep ahead of the damage they're going to be piling on. Your AC and resists are quite good, and hopefully the Sphinx won't smite and kill you the first turn. If that doesn't happen, you SHOULD be able to survive this. Just last until treeform wears off, read teleport and then last until teleport goes off. Once you're no longer in mortal danger, wield that Eveningstar and use all your enchant scrolls on it. Eveningstars are godly and vampiric ones are quite nice in Depths/Zot, certainly much much better then a sucky mace of venom. Treeform prevents teleportation and blinking, so wait until its completely worn off.

Am I the only one who checks the URL of links before opening them?
No

For me, it displayed brown instead of yellow, indicating that I'd clicked it. There aren't THAT many user profiles I've clicked on, so I figured it was someone using that old URL trick again.

If someone actually made a bot that acts like me I'd be scared for the future of the world under our AI overlords.
Didn't we once create a thread about simulating forumites via Markov chains?

The LSP and LW bots were actually quite insightful.

My first caravan just arrived. I think the Outpost Liaison is either sick or poisoned... he died just before my entrance. By the way, dear Urist, I'd rather you pull the lever as soon as I ask for it, or else you will have to face the next werebeast by yourself.

-snop-

IIRC, this is a valnilla bug with how worldgen combat works. His heart took a yellow wound and the worldgen fight simulator deemed it non-lethal, so he kept doing worldgen stuff. But once he entered the fort, the more detailed rules of combat/medicine took effect and he started bleeding out from a wound to an important organ.

Also, it says that he's a Werepangolin. If he'd transformed back, he should have healed everything. So don't know, this is weird on multiple levels.

Got any strange electromagnetic fields in your area? Power lines, RADAR dishes, college electronics labs, E war training areas?

Orange Wizard was banned.... Are all bans permanent?
Yes, that is what all bans are here. What other sites would call temp-bans are "mutes" on Bay12. The other distinguishing feature between bans and mutes is that muted members can still access the forum and read threads, whereas (based on what GreatWyrmGold said through a borrowed account after his banning) banned members aren't allowed to access the forum in the first place.

Also note that unbanning is technically possible, although I've only ever seen it happen once, under very unusual circumstances.

Are there no plans to re-implement gnomes? They were a lot of fun in the old mod.

Meph didn't do Gnomes, IndigoFenix did[Like Smake does Orcs and Boltgun does Succubi]. Any updating of Gnomes will have to be done by them, since its got some rather intricate DFhack stuff going on.

I just finished the Wheel of Time series. That was the wildest ride I've read in a long time. During the last few books I couldn't stop muttering "holy shit holy crap holy fuck" over and over. 10/10.

Now to prepare for the post-book depression.
Nah, now you can start your first re-read since you'll have forgotten most of the first few volumes by now.

After that, you can start your second re-read since you'll have forgotten most of the first few volumes by then.

There are neither beginnings nor endings to rereading the Wheel of Time.

Dunno, a big part of it is that there's no permanent record of mutes[Or at least, not one as prominent as the ban list is] and the posts/threads that get people being banned/muted/warned are deleted. Doesn't leave the most transparent "paper" trail ever.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Did the danger room get fixed/nerfed?

IIRC, it doesn't give any experience to be hit by upright spikes anymore. Dunno about it being more lethal then normal, but I'm fairly certain danger rooms are useless now.

Had to take the cat in to the vet on short notice today. That was a three-hour adventure, but at least the kitty seems to be alright. The thing is, my cat is long-haired, sheds when nervous and doesn't much like vet visits. Result: My clothes are now eligible to be classified as a fursuit.

I just remembered, there was a Restoration skillbook in Morrowind in which the protagonist casts a Fortify Intelligence spell and then uses his intelligence to remove one of his rivals by proving he doesn't exist, causing the rival to cease being. Did this guy manage to temporarily achieve CHIM from an intelligence boost? Now I'm wondering if the Nerevarine never did it, and instead got the same effect by stacking Fortify Intelligence potions.

...

Clearly I need to read through more Morrowind books. :P

Do people just shut down at seeing my avatar

If it makes you feel better, for the longest time I thought you were like five different people because of your avatar rotator. Thus, I don't associate you with your avatar as much as I do many Bay12ers.

We just finished up a scenario, of about 3 sessions, of The Secrets of Cats, where the players play as cats which secretly use magic to protect their humans from eldritch forces that they cannot perceive.

this sounds wonderful
