1 more, her main bad thoughts are...she couldn't find somone in charge to yell at! Apparently she can't yell at herself? (I do it a lot playing df ;) ) mayor has no jobs/labors.

No punishment of criminals...
I've never messed with a hammerer, and a loyalty cascade at this point would be hilariously gruesome!!!
35/15 ++5 miners/woodcutters masterwork steel picks/axes.
1 squad of each weapon type masterwork steel everything +5s all round...oh and 27 very good hunters :)

Anyhow, do I have to manually convict someone, say 1 of my 3 vamps?
Or if I make a hammerer, will he go all chuck Norris on everyone once I give him that artifact platinum hammer?!?!

Thanks for the replies, I knew this wouldn't be easy!
One problem remains. Once I get the seeds,mill to paste,press to oil, cook to roast .....there is no way to isolate those prepared.hempseed oil roasts, my food stockpiles are *large*, so she'll have to scrounge around for them like a commoner. Oh wait, she's used to it, she was a peasant! !!

Ok so I'm running a huge fort of about 500 adults( trying to get 1000!)
my duchess is my only stressed dwarf!! And apparently. She wont talk to the elven diplomat because of her stress. I need my tree quota!!

If I make hempseed oil, will she drink it?

How do I stop getting hemp flour!! (Somehow have 100's)
I am making "a lot" of dimple dye and almost every clothing item!!
Thank Armok for workflow!!  ;)

She also likes cotton cloth. I made her loom and clothiers shop out of her favorite wood, guess who's making her own clothes till her dream of creating a masterwork is realized? ! Oh and pressing that oil she likes.

I'm still on .19 so maybe things changed..
Medium world, 1050 year history.
I *think* I set vamps down to 7 in advanced
parameters, but maybe that's up?
Anyhow 16 years in this fort I've got 3.
Locked in 2*2 rooms.
Wish I could give them to you, all they do
Is kill legendaries till caught.
I should have removed them like I did
werecritters, ever look for bite victims in a
400+ dwarf fort? Not fun.

I use hunters a lot, when I get 10 +5 ambushers I form a squad.

In the military screen you just make sure each hunter has 25 bolts so 10 hunters need 250 bolts reserved.

I do not specify bone/ wood/ metal I just leave the default bolts.

I'm on my 2nd try at a very high population
fort.
For a while I had 50 each llama/alpacas
3 shops beside each pasture.
The shear animal would randomly suspend.the spin thread would also. Got tired of it, and slaughtered them all.

Moving inside I have six 5*5 fields, pigtails and dimple cups.
mill plants/process plants suspend a lot. Major pain reseting 4 millstones, 3 workshops.
Then my 1 dyer shop suspends!!
All jobs are just set "r" no workflow involved.
My 2 looms work just fine, nothing on "r" just autoloom on in orders screen.
My 2 clothier shops use workflow and seem to function ok, except I think some items can't be made from cloth/yarn wich I'm not worried about.
Figured id just buy from caravans, good plan eh?
My 3rd vampire keeps becoming mayor, and being locked up can't meet with the liaison...well that's just friggin great.
Vamp3 must die, and soon.

My computer is a self built i5 something k not overclocked
8 gb ram, about 4 years old..

For more details see my "sub 5 fps quest" thread.

I did follow a link for Microsoft flight sim to optimize
Windows for single core games.
Changed about 30 settings down in H_KEY_ROOT **VERY CAREFULLY** ;)

The paving continues...

Architect skill seems to control speed of building roads
Once all materials are present( low skill=long time)

Dwarfs will ( over time) beat a path through the trees while filling a often used block pile in the forest!
I use the lazynewbpack with multi z view set to 3, and theese paths really stand out.

*side note*
 Finally over 500 total dwarfs
400 adults
67 kids
34 infants

Nonmasterwork purge of everything has begun.
Humans/ dwarf caravans get shift enter to sell.
workflow is my best friend now!!

The whackamole and clear cutting work
Pretty well.
The earlier cut logs are *finally* far enough
Away that they don't crowd the material list!!
Forbidding all logs 2 months before the
elves arrive helps get the 3 block piles "kinda" full.
When the tree limit is set, by diplomat 100+ trees are
Killed by 15 woodcutters"!
As they are cut, 272 dwarfs with wood hauling
Suddenly go "there are 2 EMPTY max size wood
Stockpiles!! No wheelbarrows allowed!! Go!! Go!!"
They descend like locusts, at 12 fps ;)

Farthest edges being paved 1st.

Oh and I'm still playing 40.19 sooo..
I wouldn't suggest paving AROUND trees!!
More crashes THIS game, than ALL others combined!!!
Lost almost 4 real life hours of whackamole yesterday! !
NOT GOOD.

Pave carefully, my friends ;)

Quick update

There is a lot of potential to the
Whackamole strategy, but *HUGE*
Placement time investment!!

Am xperimenting with labors to find
best results.
Waiting on architecture seems the biggest delay.
Sadly even with 45 dwarfs with it,
The highest os only skilled.

Currently doing whackamole and clearcutting 100+ trees.

Is there a way to "suspend" a stockpile? I have a feeling that dwarf's are hauling bins BACK to the masons to fill. Causing delays.

Can't believe noone mentioned....
Pave the surface with +-70,000 granite blocks (original plan)

(New plan) as the surface is paved place binless charcoal stockpiles over it!

When the elves arrive they will see their forest turned to charcoal as far as the eye can see, and UNDER it dwarven stone!" ;)

Currently at 18000 LOGS, and have to recut the surface, so +-70,000 charcoal is doable.
