Earth has the "homeworld" minerals, that means it will always have all 11 minerals, all at least wich acceptable accessability. But not that many, so you will be forced to move on sooner rather than later.
And while 200.000 may sound much, 200.000t of Duranium can be gone quicker than you might like.
My nemesis is Gallicite though, I always struggle to get enough if that stuff.

ah, cause the videos I've been watching (they were from 2014, so maybe it changed or guy was unlucky) he had 30k on average and was really really bad for resources lol. Thought I got lucky or something :P

I made my first survey ship and went to the moon.

My start (very first one, no reloading or anything like that) ended up with earth having TONS of minerals, like 80k plus for the least ones (2 of them) and up to 200k for a couple others. The moon doesn't have that great of things, a couple 1.8 million minerals that I guess is okay as they were the ones at 80k on earth

Kinda following a video series on it a bit, to learn how the game works and what not. Mostly been doing my own thing, which happens to be going WTF do I do rofl.

I'm gonna give this a real actual try. I did download it a long time ago (years ago, probably 2005/2007) and I opened it up and then closed it. My tastes in games is a lot different though (or I know what I actually like to play compared to a few years ago), and so after watching videos and what not...this looks like my kinda game.

I see a patch is coming out, but for someone who has never really played...outside of having to restart...probably doesn't effect me too much in the short term.

Looks like I'll be losing a lot of time to this though :P

You get one city with expandable city limits.  You can segregate your city with districts and give each district it's own specific polices (This place has farming and X level of taxes, this area is generic industry with Y level taxes).

Yup. And one thing I like, to expand on this comment, is you can ban heavy traffic (cargo trucks and what not) from certain districts. So since trucks cause a ton of traffic, you wouldn't want them going through residential areas and instead have them go through certain districts. Pretty cool feature I think.

605
Do you get one (expandable) city in this, or do you get a larger worldmap and several regions whose development benefit each other as in Sim City?

You get a plot of land (I think it starts at 2km by 2km) and then can buy more plots of land each at 2km by 2km...I think there is 9 plots of land you can buy and you should be able to mod it to an even bigger size. But, each plot of land is the same city...they aren't different regions. Think like simcity 4 with all the different regions, but all on one map.

I still have no idea what I want to do...but I do know I will have one area specially made for sewage/garbage/dirty industry...every city has a slum

Yeah, have some area where its really poor and filthy lol. Probably near industry as that already creates a lot of pollution. And most places (the ones I've seen) near factory districts are pretty much the slums.

Its going to be hard to balance industry with wanting a nice green environment. That will be the most difficult task for me. I'll have to do a lot of planning on that. Maybe in my own map, I'll have a bunch of mountains in the north and to the south is more flat and the industry can go down there along with more large-scale farming. Kind of like going to a desert in California after leaving the mountains, and seeing huge farms all over the place and some factories mixed in. But, it kind of defeats the purpose of having small-large towns dotting around the map with a focus on green and not industry.

Only games I personally enjoy are the ones you can mod. I like being able to tweak the game to my own preference. The only exceptions to games I enjoyed without mods is Ultima 7 (while it has some mods, its not intensive) and warlords battlecry 1/2 and 3 (except battlecry 3 does have an expansion style mod that is HUGE). And the Civilization series I can play without mods, even the modern ones. Outside of those...I haven't found much enjoyment in games you can't mod. But every moddable game my enjoyment increases a TON.

With that aside...

Pretty much sold on the game anyways. Been watching a lot of videos, and it isn't just showing things off like some companies do (or worse, those "open beta" (sure, not tricking me) MMOs that only let you play 2-3 days a week (only to generate hype)...every one of those has crashed and burned). I don't see the developers really spending anything on marketing like used cars sales man style gaming that a lot of AAA companies do. Pretty much as far as I can see, all the "marketing" is actually from the players themselves, which I like a lot better than some used cars sales man deciding to switch jobs and market some game.

What I see, is actual gameplay from actual people playing. And everything I have seen, I pretty much already know I'm gonna enjoy this. Some videos try to oversell things, but this is actual let's play kind of things I am watching. I already know I'll enjoy this, so there is no risk (for me) for preordering. Maybe there will be issues in the later game, but I have watched over 7 hours of videos (over 10 hours when I am done with the newest videos today), and I can tell this is exactly my type of game.

I imagine there will be a lot of DLC, but there will be a lot of free content too. And I actually kind of like DLC that CK2 and EU do...because like Skyrim (which is my #1 played game), the developers just abandon the game really quick and let modders fix things. Thats one reason I play MMOs, as long as its running, I see more content. I actually REALLY like all the DLC for CK2. Its like playing a MMO almost, in that I always keep seeing new "updates".

As for my plans...my first "city" will be a bunch of villages (sort of) and large towns in a mountain map. I hope the mountain map is good for a mountain town kind of theme. Otherwise I'll most likely just make my own map. I think they said there will be a map editor, and I actually already have plans for what map I am going to make. That may end up being the very first thing I do.

I want kind of a quiet kind of mountain town network, with a focus on preserving the natural beauty of the map. So there will be a lot of farms in the flatter areas, and a lot of "nature" kind of things to it, as much as the game allows. Except maybe ONE downtown kind of area depending what the map has available, I'll make everything else small and quiet. I'll probably make the bigger town something like a tourist kind of area that a lot rural towns have. So there won't be really much people living there (a few), but mostly commercial stuff that people can go buy cheap made items for more than its worth :P And every tourist town has a lot of cops (sherrifs actually), so I'll be sure to have a police station nearby lol

One can only hope that Paradox will not pack the game with DLCs that change the gameplay in a major way, like the Way of Life or Republic DLCs for ck2. Even if they do it, though, the game is already pretty good on its own, and the modding potential will keep it alive for long.
This is a Paradox published game and not a Paradox developed game.  So good chance that there is just going to be "content" packs.

"Content" as in new building model, music and sound packs.

In one of Quill's videos. They are going to keep releasing content/dlc like CK2 and EU do.

There will also be a lot of free updates too, like one of the first updates will add tunnels for free. I guess they couldn't fit everything in (like the tunnels) because of their small development team. I can understand that, eventually a game has to release and not wait 10 years where its already out of date lol. But if they are sticking by their word, there will be a lot of free stuff after release. And paid stuff.

I really really hated disappearing people so much that I pretty much took back old Sim city games lol. Never played new Sim city, but I imagine people randomly disappear in that one too. A game breaking mechanic for me.
Hate to break it to you, but in severe enough cases of traffic conjestion people can be teleported to their destination. Source.

I'm fine with that. That happens in skyrim too. And I've seen it in WoW. But, its supposed to be kinda rare/not often and if I designed my roads badly. I can understand if ai breaks or something because of bad roads.

The game is supposed to be super moddable. Like if someone had a lot of time, he could make a medieval mod to make the game medieval. That pretty much sold it for me.

Cause any games that are great for mods, I've always loved. Fallout 3/nv, elder scrolls and torchlight 2 being the big ones

611
I never minded the abstracted people and traffic from SC4 and earlier, evendors if it madequate the strees pretry ugly up close. BAD agent based systems, like traffic in the new Sim City, do bother me though.

yeah, most people probably wouldn't even be bothered by abstracted people and traffic. Me, it is a game breaking thing. It can be the best game in the world of any genre, but I wouldn't play it if people randomly disappeared or like in assassin's creed walk around like scary ass horror inducing robot things that are scarier than human centipede (which is actually funny to me and not scary, but you get the point).

I had 15 USD in steam wallet, for someone buying a 15 dollar card worth 3 cents.

So I used it and my own money to get preorder deluxe. Its not really needed, I just wanted extra goodies.

Been watching quills videos on it. Looks amazing. And people don't randomly disappear if you follow them. That killed every Sim city game I played for me. I really really hated disappearing people so much that I pretty much took back old Sim city games lol. Never played new Sim city, but I imagine people randomly disappear in that one too. A game breaking mechanic for me.

Looks vastly better.

And yet, still lots of grouping happening.

Forced socialization doesn't make for a good social experience. My 3 months I played EQ (cousin let me use his account, so he had high level stuff), I only had one person I was friends with that I liked...the others I just used so I could raid and get items. I was pretty much forced to raid with them, since they were pretty much "the raiders" during that time...but its been A REALLY long time, so I don't even remember anything else.

My main MMO at the time was Asheron's Call, it was a huge solo game. Yet, people regularly grouped and socialized. Same with Ultima Online, I could easily solo in UO...but I'd rather have grouped and people did group a lot. Others soloed, many did both.

Forced grouping is BS and does not make for a good social environment. Heck, I solo in nullsec EVE all the time and even solo PvP...yet a lot of people group in that game.

And just because I'm not grouping, I'm still socializing, trading, pvping and other stuff. And a lot of the times I DO group.

Good riddance to forced grouping. Using people to benefit only yourself, good riddance to that. Enough of that happens in real life with supposed "social circles" filled with fake friends who only actually want gifts (one of my aunts has a ton of friends, and literally she said she only has them so they get her gifts...she'd do perfect in a forced grouping MMO)

Anyway enough with that rant. On to another rant.

I tried Warlock to level 16 and got super pissed with it. I only really like demonology for warlock, and the demonic power blizzard gives you...if it passes over 800, it will SUPER fast drop to 200 for no reason. So its near impossible (if at all) to get 1000 demonic power, and also demon form doesn't last long at all. I just don't understand why it passed 800, and why blizzard would make an idiotic mechanic to erase it all (and demonic power is hard to get as it is) for no reason.

I made a priest, and shadow form lasts forever, is better than demon form and is better. And also, shadow priest feels like how warlocks used to be lol (not destro warlocks though, shadow priests are more like better versions of demonology/affliction warlocks).

I'm having WAY more fun with priest than I did when I tried them back in WoTLK...never tried them in cataclysm. But blizzard did a REALLY good job with priests. They flow amazingly (disc priest flows AMAZING), shadow priest is tons of fun and I'm always wanted in groups as a disc priest :P Haven't tried holy, but disc priest does good in both pvp (it is the pvp spec)...but I do good in dungeons and what not keeping people alive as disc priest (its different). Blizzard priest developer did great with them.

Might be a mod causing save corruption then. Even if its 10-14 mb, things can break it. Have you tried the papyrus save cleaner on nexus? Might fix it.

So for some reason all of my saves of one character crash the game about 5 seconds into the loading screen. I haven't changed my mod setup, and starting a new game works perfectly fine. Anyone have any idea what might be up?

Have you tried doing coc qasmoke and then loading save?

In my setup, I have to load my qasmoke save then my main one.

Doing a new save then loading main save should work too
