DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: Opinion on Elves

Additional thoughts:

While I don't play elf, I should add I always remove wood armor/weapons from entity raws. I don't mind them being a bit more lively.

Randomly, I did try to see if they could have beards, which did not work.

More marginally, dwarf and elf is better as Brothers Grimm, since they're both much weirder there than from the Tolkien lineage.

I've never known what legendary+1, 2, etc, meant. What is the numerical value for legendary +5? 10K+, 20K+, 30K+?

Since October, usually an illiterate dwarf

I always put novice reader on my adventurers. You never know when you'll come across a necromancer's slab.

Were I to make a powerleveler, then yes I'd take reading since who knows what the future may hold (all sorts of good madness). Endurance would be the dumpstat here instead of reading.

Any character I'm playing strict rogue won't use a slab or book, or go vampire/werebeast. So, no required reading.

The reading skill would be more useful if you needed it for flavor-related whatnots such as etchings on engravings or anything with a narrative.

In Adventure Mode, they're overpowered (when you use them) mainly because of big speed.

Since October, usually an illiterate dwarf (no training, especially no auto-wrestling, since that's hugely exploitive given how its stat gains work particularly in relation to fighter gains on an unconscious opponent)
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
The build is pretty loose since no one needs that much observer, but it's fun and efficient enough to solo all fights at close to minimum stat requirements (more so if with sword than spear).

Once accused, the character symbol should change to Ñ.

Spreading rumors only makes people know you killed your opponent. Their reactions will be underwhelming and/or nonsensical since emotions haven't been sorted properly.

This is a very nice set up. I'll have to try this if I make a necromancer. I generally prefer to avoid unnecessary combats, particularly the endless kiting.

Oh, I didn't mean the numbers for attributes people get with another tool (the name escapes me). I just meant the screencap of the skills for your character. I find it interesting to see where it is in the bookending range, like legendary dodger: 3230/4000, etc. as it gives everyone an idea of what someone was using which always varies per player.

He's a thralled necromancer wereelephant with legendary shield and armor skill, master swordsdwarf, great axe dwarf, superdwarven strength, agility, toughness, willpower, endurance, spatial and kinesthetic sense, and superwerelephant in those stats as well. So, no thank you. Besides, I want to generate a new world since I want to grab peridexis's starter pack.

Going to try to fight a hydra without weapons or shields, lol.

What are your actual numbers? Stats are always good to see mainly for awesomeness, partially for the science.

Made a peasant adventurer as I always do. Spent countless time increasing his skills before looking for fun as I always do. Got killed in the first encounter with a goblin as I always do. Should make a hero or demi-god but I don't find it fun when I'm not on equal footing like everyone else.
well considering bogeymen at night are hitting skills around 10, and most folks in adventure mode are professionals in their trade the only 'everyone else' that would be equal footing is the peasants that start in towns, also don't think any of the recruits/goblins/bandits/nomads start out at lvl 1 then slowly grind their way to the top, they just spawn in with their skills set, otherwise you end up with legend mode bandits with series of kills than just them being born, then killed as their history. this doesn't go for the historical leaders just the mooks.
They spawn with skills sets befitting their positions and prior events.  Most common warriors seem to come out of worldgen with anywhere from novice to competent weapons skills, and their armor and 'support' skills usually lag behind the main weapon skill.
The same applies to diplomats and nobles.  They get [skilled] or [great] skill in a few social skills, and then the rest trail behind.

They do spawn with these skills intact - as a result of fighting and/or their positions.  It tries to simulate experience.  If you recall, worldgen battles arent actually fought atm.

---

Dont fall to the temptation of picking an easy adventurer, Moska!  I support your endeavor for purity!
Have fun in any way you want in Adventure mode, like rolling a Demigod/peasant/hero adventurer who dump all points into non combatant skills and trying to stay alive in the world via hiring companions and becoming a trader.

then again, with how Adventure mode is said to be you possessing a guy, I wonder how fortress guard having peasant point pool would work in game? like did she/he slack off training the whole time? or does the being that possess the guard wipe all her/his stats and skills? then they start crying because god they didn't want to punch gophers or hunt down bandits, their suppose to guard a fort, and they start missing their loveones.

that said I had a run in with bogeymen recently and some how got them caught in a standstill, wondering why they stop attacking me I booted up Gm-editor and check their data, I notice that yes even bogeymen are emotionally effected by Death, and will have a 'wish for world peace' dream in their unit.souls.personality. kinda wonder if that happens due to seeing death.

the standstill happen due to getting lucky with my dark days mod reanimator beaning a bogeyman with a darkbolt lighting a good 3x3 tile of fire around, and figuring I better jump into the flames since my character has max up climbing and nothing else and not making a dent outside of interaction damage.

edit: okay soo DON'T BE NEAR FIRE when you're character face is full of tears, or you're going to melt your face off from scolding sodium, I had to drink the stuff to stop bleeding.
let this be known, tears can conduct heat and will Melt the faces off anyone in fire... which kinda explains why fire killed those bogeymen... they all had their faces/heads melted off.

Agreement with what others have said. Will add this. Point allotments for peasant/hero/demigod are really about (scaled) expectations with what you can do/how you must do something rather than difficultly. Differences in difficultly would mean the game's mechanics are different for each. Combat has the same requirements at whatever tier, though how you need to meet those requirements may change. Novice weapon/fighter skill versus NPC is still the same stat comparison whether you're peasant, hero or demigod.

Yupper.  Ill submit a bug report then.

Are you getting any 'empty announcement ###' errors in the errorlog associated with those? I haven't had any problems with the temperature, light, and date 'announcements'.

What OS are you using? I see you didn't mention that in the bug report. I use windows 8 and no problems with those keys.

Edit: Ziusudra says that they use Linux, so maybe it's a Linux problem.

Haven't had the issue. On Mac OS X.

-Lairs, caves, and camps do not spawn boogies if you sleep in them.  Other things may find you, however . .

Just a question on this. While it's always better to sleep in a lair with a corpse you created, I was wondering if you've ever been ambushed by a new real estate agent/homebuyer?

I ask because I vaguely recall (several versions ago 40.10?) I once killed a night troll and then was told to return to that same location where two new night trolls had made their home.

It seems possible.

@smeeprocket see below.

Have you tried the multi-attack tactic ?
It's so overpowered against the AI that i think it's most likely an exploit more than anything.

- press the , key to wait for the enemy to be in contact
- press SHIFT+A to aim an attack
- press a to Strike
- select the bodypart you want to hit
- press z to enable "multiattack"
- select the type of attack you want to use (slash/stab/etc..)
- press SHIFT+A to aim a 2nd attack (thanks to multiattack)
- select the Dodge option instead of an actual attack
- Dodge in the direction you want
- Press . to launch the multiattack (the attack then the dodging)

With this technique i managed to survive a 3 bogeymen attack with a beginning demigod adventurer (that usually get killed fast by bogeymen) and striking them down, it takes a lot of patience as , wait only for a tick and you are going to miss most of your attacks, but in the end damage on yourself will be minimal (assuming of course you have good armor pieces, make sure to get some from castles before going out) and the enemy should be dead

This takes more time than time as you can see.

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: Necromancer Tower Assault
« on: December 01, 2014, 08:46:11 pm »
Hello,

I have made my first assault to a necromancer tower in 0.40, and after like 3 or 4 real hours of combat  :-X, I have finally killed all the undeads, and obtained the BOOK (Ruin, My Love). Acording to Legends Viewer, there where 70 undeads and 13 necromancer (all dead). I started the game as heroe, and used an exceptional quality short sword (I obtained legendary skill with it in the fight), I also used modded steel armor. This is the devastating result of the battle ground 8):

This is very nice!

In 40.xx my characters have followed [ETHIC:is:PERSONAL_MATTER] which is fairly chaotic neutral.

They judge the world by what they see and what happens to them rather than by what they are told.

They try to keep their companions alive and mainly engage in beast killing.

Though when they are accosted they never ponder the benefits of weregild (our time's wrongful death claim).
