Stuff
I think it sounds contradictory because it is. If you let these things constantly get to you then you end up feeling crap all the time. It's a bad state to actually deal with the problems. But just ignoring the crap also has problems too. So it's a tricky balancing act of learning when to let things slide & when to get worked up about them.

Don't know, maybe that's not much help to you.

It was mostly a cheap joke about the possible content of a video ad for condoms. I'm too tired to make sophisticated jokes right now, which is rather sad.

Wouldn't actually surprise me. I remember on the old wiki site for LCS that if you went to the sweat shop page it always pulled up fashion ads.

It depends how sharp we're talking. I know plenty of people who won't touch epicure because of the smell (similar to parmessan)

It's pretty good if it's freezing cold but then again so is any spirit that strong.

To have market, you need to have demand and supply, otherwise you can call "flights to another planet" a market. And you simply can't buy nukes, no matter how much money you bring. Nobody will sell you them, not for money at least.
You have supply and demand. It's a state monopoly on both sides (if you disregard illegal demand which is what I had in mind), but it's there.

Is it completely a state monopoly? It wouldn't surprise me if at least parts of the missile system are designed by 1 of the major defense contractors but a quick search didn't bring up much & I don't really feel like doing too much poking around.

As far as I know most of arms producing industries have outputs with lower market value than their inputs.

Not really, the value the customers put on those weapons systems is high enough that they buy them.
Most of the times the "customer" is the army of the state that has those arms producing industries, and it usually doesn't have a choice which weapon system to buy, if it can buy one of their own.

And army is a good example of an industry that works at a highly negative profit and is "propped up" by a state. Yet wise people still maintain armies, despite the fact that they cost a lot of money and don't really bring any. What they do is protect your other profit-making organizations from changing hands. So they potentially save you a lot of money. But they don't really bring you any, and that's why saying that any industry that works at a negative profit (having it's outputs be of lower market value than inputs) will be shut down is not quite right.
Last I checked the arms industry is one of the most profitable businesses in the world. Saying it runs at a loss for the state is like saying the automobile industry runs at a loss for the car owner.

E: ninja'd. Actually, the array of effects it was claimed to cause in the 19th century was so broad that they were bound to hit a few times, especially since a lot of them are very similar to the effects of, you know, ethanol. But whatever, I may be wrong. Anyway, the consumption of one small glass of absinthe, real or not, will not cause you to flip your shit.

Though if it's a small glass as in say about 200mls rather then a shot & it's say around 70% ethanol it's certainly going to make you pretty drunk.

It is in it's more mystic or monastical forms. I think people are quick to confuse Buddhist monks with lay-buddhists or devotional forms of buddhism with other forms. Or forget that while the catholic church has a clear head of it's hierarchy, Buddhism doesn't. Or that Zen is very unlike pure-land & neither are much like the old-fashion Indian tradition etc. etc.

Err...just to quickpost, 'introvert//extrovert' aren't innate characteristics, but categorical descriptions of characteristics...in modern times. Nobody is truly one sided here in being an extrovert and introvert [as there's a lot of other factors influencing those behaviors], and iam2roy is right in noting that its a sliding scale of attitude.

Yep. I live a little hermit-like these days but I'm actually quite sociable when I do spend time with other people. I was a shy kid, a party animal in my 20s, hermit-like in my 30s, 40s+ ? These things changes, they are habits, behaviours & attitudes as much as anything. Don't get conned in to thinking you are or aren't an introvert.

Edit: Odd note, typing 3?s gives ???
Hmm:

Last fall I found out that most of the people I work with don't vote. Great stuff.

The fact that so few people vote in most places is still quite weird to me. I mean here it's just compulsory, so everyone votes.

That's pretty stupid. How many people are really informed about the issues? I bet it's not everybody.

Nah not really. You still have the exact same problem with voluntary voting. At least with compulsory voting more of the moderates votes.

Here it's a saturday which is an obvious solution & even if your away or working you can absentee vote or postal vote. Sounds a little like the US system is set up to make something that's actually fairly easy harder then it needs to be.
