I've embarked in an evil biome on a shoreline and there was a beached giant sperm whale. A dust showed up that turned it into a husk. I've locked my dwarves underground. What do I do to kill it?

I personally think that the addition of subterranean elves would be really awesome. Plus, they'd be better than those hippy elves in the woods. I don't really have anything to say that would make that seem more plausible or beneficial, just that it'd be cool.

My dwarves keep on dying every winter due to a lack of water. I keep building wells and they keep on breaking due to the water freezing. Is there any way to store water for the winter?

I've been playing for a while now, I know how to mine, how to build the basics, how to farm. But I have no idea how to dig down. Do I need a dwarf with some kind of skill?
