General Discussion / Childhood Stories
« on: July 20, 2015, 12:21:41 pm »
So this a thread for all those stupid things you did as a child or baby. Because at that time I'm pretty sure we all suffer from a severe lack of common sense and any form of embarrassment. Which ends up with really great stories.

I will start off.

So when I was only a year or maybe less old. I was on a plane on my mothers lap, we were sitting next to this really fancy guy in a pin striped suit and with a gold plated watch.

Me as a baby thought the watch was really interesting so I started playing with his watch and doing that weird gurgly smile things that babies do. The guy did not like this at all and was trying desperately to ignore me.

Soon I started to get hungry and my mother fed me this solid baby food thinking I could eat it. I could not and a bit of food got caught in my throat. To get it out my body decided to projectile vomit... right into the fancy guys lap.

Afterwards I just continued playing with his watch while gurgling and smiling at him. Needless to say he was not happy and was probably getting ready to haymaker backhand me or something. Specially since he said he had a really big important meeting straight after he got off the plane.

So that's my, probably best childhood story.

Roll To Dodge / The Race: Minamalist
« on: July 18, 2015, 04:59:15 pm »
The Race

Anyone can join at any time.

The goal is too finish the 100 metre race

You can only travel 10 metres at once

You can only have 2 actions per turn

People who post first, react first. Unless I deem otherwise.

This is Minamalist. But it doesn't matter if you turn into reality itself, you can still only travel ten metres.

Might make another scenario if this turns out well.

You all line up at the starting line.

BANG.

Generations

As you stare across the bonfire, flames dancing in the light breeze, throwing their light and illuminating the faces on the other side. In a moment of thought, you experience, the trodden blades of grass massage your feet. You hear, the breeze rustling the leaves of the tall fir trees that surround the clearing, interspersed by the crackling of the fire. You feel, the mellow heat of the fire reaching for your body, warming you. And you think back on your childhood, the events that lead to this moment.

I was born in this village and named (Name). my father. His brown eyes, dark tanned skin and black hair were opposite to my mothers who like the other villagers, having blond hair, blue eyes and pale, if somewhat tanned skin. I myself, look more like my father, with my black hair and darkly tanned skin but unlike him I have dark blue eyes.

The village is isolated from most things, the only intrusions into the daily life being tax collectors. But other than that we live off the land as best we can. The sun beats down hard on us during the summer, then leaves again in the winter, allowing the snow to escape the heavens. It can be cold. But we survive. Through supporting each other if nothing else.

When someone needs a house built, we build it. When someone needs some food, we give it. When someone needs a a field cleared for farming we all help out. Only a hundred or so live here. My father tells me elsewhere there are massive town containing thousands, but here everyone knows everyone else. We pray every Sunday at the fortified wooden church on the hill.

The Lord who owns the village rarely visits. But he seems nice enough from what I have seen, if a bit large in the belly. But his wife and son live here with their servants and tend to stay out of the village main. Instead staying safely in their manor.

That's the village. Small but tighnit.

Unlike the others in my village my father taught me to read and write as well as speak in his own tongue. And other skills when I got even older. My father is from across the mountains in the east you see.

I remember the day he told me how he arrived here...

Setting
Generic fantasy setting with a huge unexplored wilderness filled with places to explore. Every kind of mythical creature i can think of.

The balance between humanity, elves, dwarves and orcs the four main races, was balanced for centuries.

Elves, defensive and unambitious they wanted nothing more than to inhabit the wilderness and live care free without disturbances. Spread though out the continents vast wilderness, still untamed they seemed to be low in numbers. But the wild is their territory and the wild is vast, every corner inhabited by the Elves. They do not mind when individuals and small groups travel in their territory but any sort of large war party would face fierce resistance from not only the Elves but the land itself. In time of need the Elves form an elder council.

The Dwarves, ambitious and inventive. They live in the mountains. They had been caught up in a war against the denizens of the underground, mainly trolls. It was a defensive war with impenetrable armoured steel Dwarves facing against the nightmarish sickly green trolls with unnatural strength. This was lucky for the other races as it stopped the Dwarves from expanding and kept their population down. The Dwarves do not see race, they see skill and usefulness because of this dwarves can welcome people into their forts only to kick them out again when they have no use. They are united under a King and Queen.

Orcs, war obsessed but not ambitious. They live in the great plains. Tribal and nomadic in culture, the interior tribes are constantly fighting amongst them selves, while the exterior are raiding human villages and towns. They travel around the plains constantly on the move, they use Dire wolves to carry their things and as mounts during fights. They are respectful of fighting skill so any visitors must first prove them selves in combat before being allowed in.

The Humans the most ambitious. They were formed into individual city states, each completely independent and constantly waging petty wars to claim villages and towns. The exterior city states fended off the raiding Orcs as best they could. They allowed most traders and visitors into their towns and cities without trouble. The second most technologically advanced after the Dwarves, the second most populous after the Orcs and the second most adept at magic after the Elves. They were a jack of all trades.

But then the "Expansion" happened. The Humans had been united under a strong leader. They massacred any Orcish raiders attacking their borders before sending a massive army to subjugate the Orcs. At this same time the Dwarves managed to mount a large offensive against the trolls and decrease their numbers drastically. They soon were looking elsewhere for expansion and sent a elite Dwarves force into Elvish territory. The Dwarves also started supplying arms and armour to the Orcs as they were getting increasingly worried about the Humans. The Elves seeing what was happening formed an Elder council which came to the conclusion that all other races must be weakened indefinitely as they could not be trusted when strong.

The Gods
Humans: They worship different deities depending on the city state
Orcs: Sacrifice food and valuables to the god of war
Dwarves: They do not have gods
Elves: Worship the Dark elves

Dark Elves:
8 Dark elves each have mastered a form of magic. Most live in solitude while some move around under illusions.

Forum Games and Roleplaying / Mercenaries: Interest check
« on: May 08, 2015, 06:33:40 pm »
Ok i have a basis of an idea that was stolen inspired by "Battle Brothers" and if you've ever read "Necromancer" On ChooseYourstory.com it might be that kind of world

Setting:
It will be generic fantasy with humanity expanding and other races slowly becoming more and more annoyed at humanity for expanding so much. So you know troubled times perfect for mercenaries. I do have more but that will be revealed as you explore. Also loads dragons and other such mythical creatures

Roll system:
Simply put i won't roll for much and mostly just use common sense unless i really feel like i need randomness. I will roll for skill gain though.

Seriousness/roleplaying:
You can roleplay and stuff however much you want and you can be completely silly as well, i don't really mind it would probably make things more interesting.

Gods an stuff:
No gods but there are going to be some ancient dark elves who have each mastered a form of magic and are the last of their kind.

How I'm writing this:
This will be very story focussed and I'm doing this also do improve my writing a bit, so point out mistakes and stuff. Which i know i have loads of.

Amount of players:
Ill say 7

Skills:
You will each have skills that i will base how well you do in given situations. And so you can have some sort of achievement and proof that you are a badass.

Magic:
Magic is very common and most people know some basic stuff but only a few know complicated stuff.

How game will work:
You are a group of friends who have worked in various different nobles armies before you decided that you could earn more money as mercenaries. So you are basically veteran peasants with crappy gear.

Skills:
Each skill is out of 100
except for the one you are Natural at which is out of 200 and you put an N after.
0 is unskilled 100 masterful and 200 is Godlike
 it can go to -100
You can assign 300 skill points out
You can not go above 50 in a given skill when picking

Trait:
Honest face: People trust you easier
Quick learner: Learn skills faster
Attuned to Magic: Learn Magic faster
Beautiful: Easier to charm and persuade people
Any others i approve

Race:
Look up fantasy races and pick basically anything you want. Some may be not trusted just use generic fantasy sense. i will also inform you.

Character Sheet
Name:
Gender:
Age:
Race:
Trait:
Backstory: (optional)

Assign 300 don't go above 50
Skills
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

These skills are not set in stone and you can make up any others you want as long is it makes sense. Dont write in the skills you didn't use unless its magic or running, writing and strength.

You can also add skills like alchemy, blacksmithing and foraging.

ill start this maybe in a week

also really recommend reading Necromancer cuz its pretty awesome

More information about the world
Orcs: don't like necromancy or healing
Elves: don't like necromany but like healing
Dwarves: view necromany as useful and healing as useful
Humans: most view necromancy as morally wrong doesn't stop most from using it and view healing as morally right I.e people who use necromancy they trust less and people who use healing trust more.

Orcs: most aren't welcoming of travellers
Elves: very secretive with travellers
Dwarves: plain just say f*** off unless you're useful
Humans: most are welcome
Each are more welcoming if you have one of their race in your group

You guys will be starting in a human Town

DF Suggestions / Migrants
« on: November 01, 2014, 09:10:16 am »
why are migrants so incompetent, are player forts the only ones with actually legendary dwarfes. I'm not saying migrants should be legendary at least not until your a metropolis, but can't we have some more randomnization in how skilled migrants. So you could get really unskilled ones and extremely skilled ones

« on: October 07, 2014, 11:38:39 am »
You guys will be all separate colonies/towns and you can choose 2 actions you want to do per turn they have to be kinda of within in reason(mostly it depends on what i roll). The ultimate goal is to beat everyone else or have an alliance who beat everyone else.

You can do whatever role playing you want but this is mostly just to see how quickly the world blows up

Someone reply I know you want to

DF Suggestions / Army stuff
« on: September 02, 2014, 12:48:56 pm »
two things:

1. I would really like some dwarves having life goals as soldiers so if they get enlisted they become happier instead unhappier

2. I think at first there should be no anger at getting enlisted because its pretty annoying having your dwarfs getting angry especially when your just getting started and also because these dwarfs don't know much about fighting they don't know how bad it is. I mean look at WW1 around 1 million people enlisted straight away in Britain when the government asked for soldiers it might also stop people using danger rooms.
