DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Ever-present extremely long hair
« on: December 28, 2015, 08:38:32 am »
Has anyone else noticed that whenever you create a human adventurer, he has, in both random-modes, always extremely long hair, with some optional adjectives?
Is it a hmm... feature or simply a not-yet extended element of the adventurer creation?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Instant cave breach?
« on: December 05, 2015, 04:20:13 am »
I started a fortress located in the mountains. As soon as the dorfs dug into one of the silt walls, the floor began to flourish with all that colorful moss and stuff. Would that mean that a cavern has been breached before embark? I didn't ever see that happening in the previous versions...

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Book thief?
« on: December 03, 2015, 02:11:20 pm »
A human scholar came to my fortress to learn. He sat in the library for some time pondering various topics, reading the one and only one-paged book I had and generally chilling. Then, he took the book (hauled it), went to the border of the map and took of with the work. Just like that.
Considering that the book was written previously by some other scholar, is this normal, purposefully implemented behavior?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Weird Visitors
« on: August 13, 2015, 05:40:08 am »
Lately, before every wave of migrants, one or two "Friendly" dwarven traders have appeared on the map edge. They just stand there for a long time, blinking with the "X" migrant mark and only move when dwarf militia is nearby and is tasked to kill them, or a wild animal or animal person comes in their view.
I can order my militia to attack them, but when I do, every dwarf who made a successful swing at them suddenly becomes the object of hate among his brethren and is swiftly killed by his squadmates or the nearby hunters.

I'm pretty sure the visitors are not werebeings because in nearly a year they haven't turned into anything.
One safe way to kill them is with siege weapons, that doesn't seem to cause havoc in my ranks.
But what are they?
(This happens on 34.11, btw.)

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Named Tree
« on: July 11, 2014, 05:27:49 am »
While travelling through a Elven Retreat I discovered a named tree.
Twilightstrike the Board of Euphoria is a birch.
And nothing more. I searched the Legends but there were no mentions of anything named like this.

Any ideas why it might have a specific name?

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Goblin citizen?
« on: May 12, 2014, 02:55:40 pm »
So I walked into a city (proudly called Youngwhispered) at night, entered a random house and Bam! Inside was a Goblin Bone Doctor. As I talked to him, he responded like any other town NPC. Interesting thing: even though it was night, he was not asleep.
Someone ever experienced something like this?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Volcanoes - surroundings relation
« on: April 11, 2014, 03:50:22 pm »
So I generated a new world using the Advanced Parameters and setting the min volcanism rate to 10, max to 100 (all other parameters were default).
The result is a region where surroundings vary from Terrifying to Serene, including a whole evil ocean named The Cremated Ocean, serene Glittery Hills that stretch on nearly half of the map, mirthful mountains and sinister plains that are adjacent to the Hills. There is some space in between but most of the map is either really good or really bad.

My question is: are volcanoes the cause of this?
