Edit: Rather, go through in a fire suit, it rips the mask off and shoves an egg down your throat.
You don't know in-game that chestbursters are a thing yet, so you can rush back to the station to try to get help for your ruptured lungs.
Or just die there and Xeno it up before going back through the gateway, so you're grown and have face huggers already. Either way you have to deal with the trigger-happy "Alium-Murder-It!" crew.

Take a look at the creatures on the shore; Figure out what may or may not be dangerous and what may or may not be good to devour, if possible.
You said they don't fear us, but not that we shouldn't fear them.
Also, read over the letter carefully, taking in EXACTLY what it says.
This way we can choose to follow the letter of the, well, letter but violate the spirit, if we so choose.
