DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Checking whether the Dwarf is bitten?

Made this a spoiler if you want to find an "honest" way to deal with the problem... I use wiki quite often but some might detest that
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I've been doing some research on night creatures, it appears that they don't need food and drink JUST because when they turn, the counters reset and they never get to die of hunger/thirst.

TL;DR how do i check infections without combat logs

Legitly? lock them away of potencial victims and look what happens.

I'd then need to lock every single one of my squad members in separate rooms. Hmm, doable.

Can be done fairly easily, ensure each of them has food in their own room (i presume you don't just let em all sleep in a dorm?), select squads (s) press p to select individuals then select the squad with the members and send each to their own room. Lock the doors, wait 2 months just to be on the safe side.

I was attacked by a werelizard who bit someones arm and caused it to bleed but didn't count for whatever reason.

Well, my mil dorfs sleep in barracks. Sometimes they group up in the dorm. Nice tip though.

I know that you could check that by viewing chat logs, but it says "no recent announcements" already. That is not true cause recently a weretapir attacked my fortress. He killed two of the military dwarves because these dumbs were using training weapons. I didn't check the logs fully because it was a large clusterfucks of stabbing with wooden spears doing nothing and dwarves finally coming with copper spears killing the damn thing. So, after a while, I see a military dwarf turn and kill like 8 of my best dorfs which I've started with. I sure savescummed. I will have the dorf who turned locked somewhere for sure. For later use, can I use DT or something to see the infected dwarves? The combat logs were just unfair to me.

To be honest, I thought that "ancient necro" was some sort of a metal he mentioned that was super rare.  :o

DF Announcements / Re: Dwarf Fortress 0.40.23 Released
« on: December 26, 2014, 07:56:05 am »
I heard something about checksums that don't require mods to be patched with 0.40.2X patches. Is that correct and is that why the Starter Pack has not been updated to 0.40.20?

Right, didn't put WEAPON: on the beginning, thanks.
But still does "No unit selected", you can't just spawn them on ground?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Ranged weapon traps?

Can I make a crossbow corridor so if an enemy comes in the crossbows automatically fire? The weapon traps I think only work point-blank, what about ranged ones?

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Best animal for leather industry?

I keep all dogs as snatcher-spotters on entrance, they are too useful. So, are 2 cats enough for cleaning up entire fort from vermin so I can insta-butcher kittens?

Wait what, making a campfire kills bogeymen? Never used a campfire due to no need of melting ice, how to make it actually?
Got killed lately by a night creature I underestimated.

Daggers, nobody?!
Might as well use a spear. 10x the penetration, only 4x the contact area.
Spear = the ultimate weapon of "lodged firmly"

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: Bags???
« on: April 12, 2014, 04:56:05 am »
storing things in bags is currently bugged, easy wy to observe the behaviour:

1.start as a member of a civ or otherwise aquire a backpack
2.[w]ear the backpack if not already doing so
3.[p]ut things in the backpack until you get the message that you have no eligible containers left
4.[d]rop whatever else you want to put into the backpack(or just have stuff on the ground)
5. make sure both your hands are full
6. [g]et those items from the floor, they will be put into the backpack.

sound more complicated than it is...maybe it works with bags, too...put the berries on the ground,
have the bag in one hand and sth else in the other and pick the berries up
Hmm. Gotta try it, thanks anyway
