I see no reason not to murder the cats other than 'because it would be cruel'. Maybe we can... slam the door shut again to avoid that?

Actually you are getting used to the fps being so low and your perception of time goes back to normal. You ask yourself do you still want to kill the cats?

The kobold runs up to you. You don't recognize him. He says, "Thanks for getting the guards to open the gate. I snuck in after you. Maybe we can work together to get all the shinies."

With your current powers, you can't manipulate the blood of a creature unless there is an open wound. However, you do have ample material to work from your tunic.

Time is moving slow still and you turn around to see another kobold approaching in slow motion.

Consulting the Olm People for an Exit Route
Urist approaches the Olm elder once more, this time seeking guidance for a safe passage to the surface. The elder, after a moment of thoughtful consideration, beckons one of their kin to guide Urist. This Olm guide, familiar with the intricate pathways of the cave system, agrees to lead Urist safely to the surface.

The Journey to the Surface
The Olm guide navigates the labyrinthine caves with ease, leading Urist through passages he had never noticed before. Their journey is quiet but not without its challenges, as they traverse narrow ledges, climb steep inclines, and occasionally pause to circumvent obstacles.

Along the way, Urist gains a deeper appreciation for the Olm People's adaptability and profound connection to their underground home. The guide's skillful navigation is a testament to the Olm's understanding of their environment.

Emerging to the Surface
After a considerable trek, they finally approach a hidden exit that leads to the surface. The transition from the dim, mystical light of the caves to the bright, open world above is striking. Urist takes a moment to adjust, feeling a mix of relief and nostalgia as he bids farewell to his Olm guide and the remarkable subterranean world he's come to know.

Reflection and Next Steps
Back on the surface, Urist reflects on his extraordinary journey:

A. Share the Tale: "I should share the story of the Olm People and our collaboration to avert the crisis. This experience has valuable lessons for all."

B. Plan Another Expedition: "There's so much more to explore and learn from the depths. I should plan another expedition, perhaps with better preparation."

C. Apply the Knowledge: "The knowledge I've gained from the Olm People could be useful in my mining work. I'll apply these new techniques in my future endeavors."

Returning to the Surface
After his successful collaboration and learning from the Olm People, Urist decides it's time for Urist to return to the surface. With new knowledge and a sense of accomplishment, Urist prepares to leave the tranquil yet mysterious depths of the Olm cave.

Options for Returning to the Surface
As Urist plans his journey back to the surface, he considers the best approach:

A. Find a New Path Upward: "The cave system is vast. There might be another route that leads upwards, possibly even closer to the surface than the way I fell in."

B. Backtrack to the Original Fall Site: "The safest bet might be to return to where I initially fell and try to find a way up from there."

C. Ask the Olm People for an Exit Route: "The Olm People have lived here for generations. They might know of a safe and efficient way to the surface."

Since you got help with option C I rolled two d6s and took the higher. ChatGPT really likes including light sources in the ceilings and one-point perspective for some reason.

Joint Effort with the Olm People - Epic Success (Rolled 5)
Embracing the wisdom of the Olm People and combining it with his skills, Urist coordinates a joint effort to manage the water surge. With the assistance of the Olm tribe, the plan is executed with precision and care.

The collaboration proves to be remarkably effective. Urist's mining expertise, coupled with the Olm's intricate knowledge of the cave's ecosystem, leads to the creation of a series of controlled channels and barriers. These new structures skillfully redirect the water flow, alleviating the pressure on the flooded areas and restoring balance to the underground lake.

The successful mitigation of the water surge solves the immediate problem and strengthens the bond between Urist and the Olm People. The Olm elder expresses deep gratitude for Urist's efforts and the newfound partnership between their people and the surface dweller.

Aftermath and Next Steps
With the crisis resolved and a sense of camaraderie established, Urist contemplates his next move:

A. Continue to Work with the Olm People: "There's much more I can learn and contribute here. I'll continue to work alongside the Olm People."

B. Return to the Surface: "With the situation resolved, it's time for me to return to the surface and share what I've learned."

C. Further Explore the Cave System: "Now that the water surge is under control, I'm curious to see what other secrets this cave system holds."

Just so you know the comic isn't dead. I'm working on some pixel art software to make drawing the comic easier. https://aliasing.pro If other people get some use out of it too then great! Once I add cropping and guide tools I go back to updating the Grawr story while also making the Oily Tombs video game.

Edit: There is also a new favorite character poll!

Learning from the Olm People
Urist, acknowledging the limitations of his own knowledge in this unique environment, turns to the Olm People for guidance. He approaches the Olm elder, expressing his desire to learn from their expertise in navigating and managing the subterranean landscape, especially in handling situations like the current water surge.

The Olm elder, recognizing Urist's sincere intention and respect for their ways, agrees to share their knowledge. Urist is introduced to ancient techniques and natural solutions that the Olm People have developed over generations to live harmoniously with the cave's ecosystem.

This includes understanding the natural flow of water, using certain cave formations to their advantage, and even employing specific cave-dwelling creatures to aid in their efforts. Urist is fascinated by the depth of their understanding and their symbiotic relationship with the cave.

Next Steps in the Cave
As Urist learns from the Olm People, he considers how best to apply this new knowledge:

A. Implement Olm Techniques: "Now that I understand these techniques, I should try to apply them to help manage the water flow."

B. Explore Further with New Insight: "With this new understanding, exploring further into the cave could yield more discoveries or even find a solution to the water surge."

C. Plan a Joint Effort with the Olm People: "Perhaps a combined effort, using both my skills and the Olm People's knowledge, can address the water surge more effectively."

Result of Helping Manage the Water Flow - Fail (rolled 2)
Urist, taking responsibility for the unintended consequences of his actions, attempts to help the Olm People manage the sudden surge of water. However, despite his best efforts, he finds that controlling the flow of water in an unfamiliar underground environment is far more challenging than he anticipated.

The tools and techniques that served him well as a miner are not as effective in this new scenario. The water continues to flow unabated, and Urist's attempts to divert or contain it are unsuccessful. The Olm People, while appreciative of his efforts, realize they need to rely on their understanding of the cave's intricacies to address the situation.

Next Steps in the Cave
With the failure to manage the water flow, Urist is left to consider his next course of action:

A. Offer to Help in Other Ways: "I may not have been able to control the water, but perhaps there are other ways I can assist the Olm People."

B. Seek Help from the Surface: "This situation might require more resources or expertise than I can provide alone. It might be time to seek help from the surface."

C. Learn from the Olm People: "Maybe I can learn from the Olm People about how they handle such situations. Their knowledge of the cave could prove invaluable."

Result of Investigating the Blocked Passage - Overshot (rolled 6)
With determination, Urist sets out to inspect the blocked passage that is hindering the water flow to the Olm People's sacred lake. Using his mining expertise, he carefully navigates the narrow tunnels leading to the blockage.

Upon finding the source of the obstruction, Urist employs his skills and tools to clear the passage. His efforts are successful, perhaps too successful. He manages to remove the blockage, but in doing so, he inadvertently triggers a rapid and forceful gush of water. The sudden influx of water is more than the passage can handle, causing minor flooding in the nearby areas of the Olm People's habitat.

While the primary goal of restoring water flow is achieved, the Olm People now face the challenge of managing the unexpected surge of water and ensuring it doesn't threaten their dwellings or the lake's ecosystem.

Next Steps in the Cave
After the mixed success in clearing the blocked passage, Urist contemplates his next move:

A. Help Manage the Water Flow: "I should help the Olm People manage this sudden surge of water. It’s my responsibility to fix what I've caused."

B. Search for Materials to Control the Flow: "Maybe there are materials in the cave that can be used to create barriers or channels to control the water flow."

C. Consult with the Olm Elder: "I need to speak with the Olm elder. Together, we can come up with a solution to this new problem."
