DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Urist hears someone howl at the moon!
« on: May 16, 2014, 05:57:23 pm »
I put a note in my signature because I have no idea what's modded and what isn't. How do I find it and kill it?

I'm not too concerned; most of my dwarfs are useless wastes of resources so I don't mind them dying much.

You can go into the "kitchen" tab of the "z" main fort menu and disable brewing of all undesired plants.

You could also allocate one stockpile only taking, say, plump helmets and put an extra still near it, then specify the stockpile to "give" to the workshop and order drinks made there. You'd also need to enable a stockpile holding empty barrels/pots to give to that workshop. This way, you could make your specific drink at this workshop when desired, but still brew other drinks at other stills without fiddling with kitchen settings all the time. It'd also work decently if not fully reliably if you left out the stockpile links - the workshop wouldn't be restricted to stockpile contents, but would still prefer ingredients from there, because jobs generally take the "closest" applicable item.

This is what I was looking for, thanks!

I do need to split up my mega-stockpile... but I'm actually looking at the barrel with "k", and nobody's doing anything with it.

DF Gameplay Questions / Urist hears someone howl at the moon!

I just saw this in the reports when the conflict "C" icon popped up. I'm a bit concerned if "someone" is howling at the moon instead of "something". Do I have a werewolf or something?

I'm getting this spam constantly from my 2 farmers, and I have some perfectly good unforbidden plump helmet spawns just waiting to go in my stockpile. The stockpile isn't walled off in any way, it's completely accessible.

What could be the issue?

6
Could you forbid the components of other drinks?

Oh I guess I could, but that would prevent using them for other things like eating and cooking.

7
If I have multiple possible drinks and I want to make a particular one, is there a way to say "make this one"? Pressing "w" for "plump helmet wine" just shows a list of reagents, products, and production location.

Moleweasels and Frill Lizards are the cats of Masterwork, they both help get rid of vermin.

Doooh I should have grabbed those. Stupid lizards are eating all my food.

I'll make sure to grab some turkeys next time.

Drake usually refers to a dragon in video games, or a rapper around here.

This thread is tremendously useful.

Yes, Masterwork.

In that case, you may find better, more pertinent answers if you post your questions here.

edit: formatting

I noticed that subforum has 40 times less threads than this one, and since I'm pretty sure far more than 1/40 people use Masterwork, I assume that subforum is limited to more Masterwork-specific questions.

And are the fish living or dead?

11
Are hearts, intestines, and stomachs good for cooking?

Are you using a mod?  Dwarves don't usually have bats, lizards, drakes, or turtles for trade.  Except as prepared food, that is.

You should still be able to get cats, if any migrants bring them as pets.

Yes, Masterwork.

I'm in a forest, so I don't need wood; everything else you guys've mentioned should be useful.

I'm looking through all these available pets, and it's taking me ages to look all these up since many of them aren't real-life animals.  Are turtles, bats, lizards, or drakes any good? I'm so sad, the trader isn't offering to bring cats. Does that mean I'll never be able to get cats this game?

I got my first caravan and grabbed a couple anvils in exchange for my overpriced mugs. I got some seeds, but I'm sure I'll have more stuff to sell next year now that I have 3 Urists making legendary mugs. What should I request?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: New crops not getting planted

I am pretty good at keeping my dorfs busy, so I'm often short on haulers. That's probably it.
