I take it different resources would be worth different amounts in total?

Yes; gold is far more valuable than grain (however, grain can have more useful strategic bonuses).

Also, for the purposes of trade agreements, it would probably be best if everyone did reveal the resources that they got for those purposes?

Yes; people will obviously want to earn the maximum cash possible, so they'll probably want to know what they're trading. And they'd find out after trading it anyway.

Keep in mind, also: You can either get the passive, or use a strategic effect of the resource - either on yourself or someone else. You cannot do both. So if you want to maximize the amount of CASH you're getting from the trade route, do not use the trade goods strategically - just let your merchants go crazy.

- If I have a resource, can I trade that resource with as many interested nations as I want?
Trade goods grant a passive income boost to all trade agreements; if you wish to use it or trade it away, it can grant specific bonuses (copper/bronze will make bronze-age units cheaper, gold and gems will improve public order, stone will decrease the cost of building, etc.)
By default, you will passively trade it; if you wish to use it for a specific purpose (either to trade it away or for a bonus; name what bonus you're aiming at - some trade goods have multiple bonuses they can get you; EX: Coffee can be supplied to the lower classes to increase productivity, or supplied to the upper classes to increase research and rate of advisers), make sure to state it and I will add it to your modifiers.

- How unilateral is trade? Can I declare as an action that I start a trade route with a certain nation, or should that be handled in a trade treaty?
Both nations must agree to a trade agreement, unless it is forced (if you start a trade route without the other nation's agreement, either secretly [selling to the underworld] or as a peace deal, you will receive bonus econ, and they will receive either none or negative econ).

- Is there a hard limit on # of trade routes?
Two for non-trade nations. After this, it will begin to cost diplomatic power per turn. You have an additional max trade route before the penalty as a trade nation. National ideas, advisers, and infrastructure can all increase this max.

- Do players have to have a land border to allow trade? Does having a nation allow sea trade to occur, or does more research need to take place?
If each player has a coastal city, no land border is required. Also, if you both have a trade agreement with a nation between you, you can form a trade agreement with each other, port or no. Sea trade tends to be horribly inefficient (think 1/3 efficiency) until Sailing and more advanced research is gotten.

Turn 27

Update Music. (This one goes out to my homeboy Jack the Ripper Lucky.)

Regular updates? This can't be the same GM, can it?

Accept the cage graciously, then brutally start bludgeoning the dragon with it. If the dragon is unaffected, the simply shrug and try to sit on it.

Why do I want this combat to be humorous?

Glancing at Rune, Sarvex understood that he won't be able to access cage soon... Still, that sprite must survive a few impacts, right?

Glade onto ground and prepare for fight. Watch for sprite falling from the cage, distract the dragon if needed.

Get the hell out of dodge and try to find moplord.

Finally assess the situation. Escape.

Rune Initiative: [3 - 1(DEX)] = 2
Fumbles Initiative: [6] = 6

As Rune reaches out for the cage, Fumbles starts sprint away - a race ensues. Fumbles RUNNING: [5] = 5 Rune RUNNING: [2 + 1(Size) - 1(DEX) - 2(Damaged Foot)] = 0
Fumbles sprints off, leaving Rune in the dust. Rune halfheartedly attempts to follow, but missteps and falls on his ass. The last thing he sees of Fumbles is him disappearing around a corner.

Meanwhile, Sarvex glides off of Rune's shoulders; he stares at the cage, but sees no sign of the sprite. PERCEPTION: [6] = 6
Gadzooks! You realize she's no longer in there!

Flamefury looks around. PERCEPTION: [3] = 3
She looks through the doorway of the shop and sees a dragon sprinting away from a giant bronze colossus. She also sees her nemesis, the half-dragon Sarvex. She decides to GTFO. Speed: [6 + 1(DEX)] = 7; OVERSHOT
She speeds through the hole in the ceiling as fast as a bullet; unfortunately, she skimmed her wing on a piece of roof, and loses her balance - she starts to fall to the ground. REFLEX: [6 + 1(DEX)] = 7; OVERSHOT
She manages to slow herself down, before fluttering down towards the ground...into a storm of bullets. DODGE: [3 + 1(DEX) + 2(Size)] = 6
She dives to the side, narrowly avoiding a bullet which flies past her. The sounds of gunfire are deafening. Wait - was that an explosion?

Drop the book and try to find the most evil looking book to take.

You look around for an evil-looking book. LOOTING: [1] = 1; CRIT FAIL
You find yourself in the Children's Book section. You pick up the most evil-looking book you see; seems to be about a Unicorn named Sparkles, who goes on an adventure with his friends.

There had been many martyrs to the Swifferbot cause over the past few days.  And what did the movement have to show for it?  Very little.  US-2497 would have to try harder-- it needed to show its followers that there was more than violent disassembly in their future.  But that would have to wait.  For now, US-2497 channeled its very human frustration into a determination to finish the thief once and for all.

"STATUS: DAMAGE MINIMAL.  THIS UNIT IS FINE.  AVENGE THE MARTYRS!  QUERY: DO YOU KNOW HOW PAINFUL IT IS TO RECEIVE LETHAL MOPPING?"

All units, attack!  Designation mop units, MOP!!  Assault units, fire!  Classic models, clean the murderer into oblivion!

hmmmm, so thats what my blood looks like...  :D
rub the dark knife on wound to make it look awesome... then blind fire back into the crowd again
FINALLY SOME ACTION!!

Jack Initiative: [3] = 3 (He will attack first since he is equipped with a ranged weapon).
US-2497 Initiative: [3 + 2(DEX)] = 5
Robot Allies Initiative: [2] = 2

US-2497 shouts some words of inspiration as a volley of bullets flies backwards. Jack LUCK: [6] = 6; OVERSHOT
A stray bullet miraculously hits the propane tank fueling the house, despite the fact that the cube is powered by a central generator. US-2497 REFLEX: [2 + 2(DEX)] = 4
US-2497 dives behind cover as an explosion obliterates the barn; some of his allies were not so lucky. SURVIVAL RATE: [2] = 2
All but a damaged assault droid and a mop-bot were destroyed in the explosion, aside from US-2497 himself. A couple might be repairable, but it doesn't look good. Jack LUCK: [5] = 5
No flying debris rains towards Jack. An angry US-2497 does, however. MOP: [4 + 2(DEX) + 2(Mop)] = 8 VS DODGE: [4] = 4
Before Jack can react, a mop slaps him in the face. Then the ribs. Then the neck. STRENGTH: [2 - 1(STR)] = 1
The mop is not swung with much force, but is extremely annoyin-owww, your ribs. ENDURANCE: [4 + 2(STR)] = 6
The mopbot's blows don't concern you at all.

Start shopping.

"Don't mind me, I'll stay out of your hair and be gone before you know it."

Start shopping.

"Don't mind me, I'll stay out of your hair and be gone before you know it."
I appreciate that.
Start walking to the door, but stop before I get there and turn back to Erizen.
On second thought, I think I'll stick with you, if you don't mind. How have things been going with the others?

Erizen heads up to the monitor while making polite conversation; the shop interface looks very interesting and all, but there does not appear to be any way to acquire stuff without money.
Nate decides to accompany Erizen and his small posse.

Hmm, I have to ask, are we allowed to look at another's actions in the thread?

I'm going to rule that if it's in Spoilers, no; unless they state somewhere outside the spoiler that it is a public action. If it's not in spoilers, go crazy.

Year 1, Spring

It is Spring of Year 1 PI (Post-Imperial) in the New Etraxian Calender established during the Treaty of Murai last month. A slight chill persists from the previous winter. Revolution is fresh on the minds of the population.

Do not look at the sheets of others unless they share information with you or you successfully infiltrate their administration (spy on them).

Remember; infinite actions (up to a reasonable point). I'm scratching the rule about limited communication. Province-specific information will happen next turn. Please include what you want your provinces/cities/capital named in your post (EX. Cap: Rodwick City. 1: Lemington. A: Rodwick). Feel free to ask your questions in the OOC thread, I'm sure there'll be alot of them. Also, ALWAYS let me know if I make any mistakes; I'm only human.

Unless otherwise stated in your actions, 50% of your military will be placed inside your capital, and the rest will be evenly dispersed among your cities.  All soldiers start at skill 5 for players, 6 for Playergamer; the military tab will expand once people start recruiting/training soldiers.

PS: National Power (x/y/z) goes Diplomacy/Administrative/Military (DAM). Don't mess up the order!

Alright, all the maps have been uploaded. Working on getting all the starting nation information done; already have a basic outline of everybody's starting situation, just have to calculate stuff now. Won't be done today, but should be done before Thanksgiving (if we're lucky).

Even though I'm not in the rp, I have a idea that might make the rp more enjoyable. My idea is that you guys should add some natural resources to the world map. For example, you could add in a forest in Terrainan's land that gives his nation special bonuses. Also the forest should allow Terrainan to get more trade partners because he possesse the natural resource that people want.

This might make the rp more enjoyable because people can fight over these natural resouces for their benfits and trade possibilities.

Just my 2 cents :)

Uhhhh?

OK, 2 things: there are already trade goods, and I am NOT drawing in terrain; my artistic skills are simply not good enough. There obviously IS terrain, but that's going to be more of a "There's like forest over here. And stuff."

Thanks for the clarifications. Does that mean that a light-infantery receive as much salary as a full armoured knight?

Mechanically, yes. However, it is assumed that all nations have their own ranking and payment systems, and that is simply too complex to be represented using a non-computed method. Remember, equipment type does not represent rank or skill - just equipment (though it can certainly correlate - better soldiers tend to get better gear).

Edit: What is the difference between income cost and resources cost? Why are mages the only unit with a income cost?

Other units have an income cost, but they all cost the same amount of money (think of that as paying your soldiers).

Income cost is the amount of money you have to pay for soldiers.
Resource cost is the amount of resources you have to pay for soldiers.

Mages cost no resources (they are mages; no armor or weapons) but high income cost (they are more expensive).

So, can we start negotiating now or do you prefer if we wait until you have posted the main turn?

Also, do we start with any sort of fleet?

Wait until the main turn for important things, but you can start negotiating; just no making alliances, trade agreements, and the like yet.

You start with no fleet, with the exception of Knave.

Question re: white space

Is that space considered uninhabited, or just not aligned with one of the great powers of the island?

edit: Players should hit me up if they want to discuss trade or treaties!

Most of the white space is uninhabited, but there may be small neutral towns or cities within their boundaries.

That is an incredibly tiny island.

People never have any sense of scale...

To give a a sense of how small it is, Japan is around 100 miles wide on average, maybe a little more. Meaning this island is barely the size of Shikoku. Or slightly smaller than Sicily. Or as large as Jamaica/Puerto Rico.

And yet we've got nine different nations?

There will be roughly 50k people, more or less, per nation. 50k times 9 is 450k. Shikoku has over 4 million people.

It's meant to be small; I don't want to be overwhelmed by the sheer size of the game.

EDIT: I realized it is pretty small, so I'll raise the dimensions a bit. I've doubled both height and width, which means there will be more population in each nation.

Hmm, when is the rest of the nation maps going to be posted?

And yeah, it seems a bit small. Could use a little enlarging in scale in my opinion.

The rest of the nation maps will be posted probably tommorow, tonight if I get around to it.
