DF Gameplay Questions / Old Happiness vs New Stress Level?
« on: June 11, 2015, 09:22:35 pm »
What's the difference between the old happiness system and the new stress system?

DF Gameplay Questions / Werebeast Bite Victims not transforming?
« on: June 09, 2015, 09:49:07 pm »
I have two dwarves who were bitten by a werebeast before it was purged so I put them into a "Death Row" squad and stationed them underground somewhere so that when they transform they must come down a narrow hallway where my marksdwarves can put them down. The problem is that they're not transforming! I checked the wiki for when the full moon dates and two of those dates have already gone by without any transformations whatsoever. Are they actually clean now?

DF Gameplay Questions / Nothing but Silver Ore
« on: June 09, 2015, 02:18:55 am »
Almost every time I embark, all I get is silver ore, and maybe some gold, too, but everyone knows that iron is best! I set the mineral settings to frequent on world-gen, so is that related to the problem or am I just unlucky?

DF Gameplay Questions / Changing animal orientation
« on: June 08, 2015, 02:38:34 am »
Is it possible to change an animal's orientation? I'm sick of bringing along dogs only to have the only male be asexual or homosexual.

DF Suggestions / Refugees
« on: January 03, 2015, 01:36:05 am »
Bands of refugees (not sure if they should be from non-dwarven races or not) fleeing from nearby warzones turn up on the map and request refuge. You can assimilate them into the fortress or shelter them for a specified while. These positive actions will result in better relations with the faction that the refugees are from (and may trigger some kind of reward?) Alternatively, you can turn them away or kill them, resulting in a drop in relations with the faction they are from.

DF Gameplay Questions / Unable to brew plump helmets?
« on: November 30, 2014, 12:08:12 am »
I've got about two million, six hundred and forty-one empty barrel/pots and 120+ plump helmets sitting around and I am still unable to brew them. What's going on?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Opinions on other races
« on: November 26, 2014, 04:56:12 am »
Everyone knows that kobolds and goblins are evil... Pure evil. But some remain unaware of the greater threat that humans pose, not least the elves. So I ask the Bay 12 community, how do you usually deal with other races when they come?
I, for one, kill any and all elves when they arrive. If they are traders I seize everything and then kill one so the other escapes. The humans are sinister and too strong for me in the beginning of the game... But I am cunning... Usually I just wait until I have a good enough military and then take them down. I don't really like killing by collapsing random shit on them because it's too easy. As for goblins and their stunted allies the kobolds, I trap them in a cage and then chuck them into the Colosseum.

DF Modding / Meth Fortress
« on: November 25, 2014, 07:13:00 am »
Firstly, I do not endorse the use of drugs except for authorised medicinal purposes.

With that out of the way, I'd like to ask how I'd go about making a mod where dwarves can run their own meth lab, or "Meth Fortress", if you will. There are a few components to this.
1. Firstly, some plants to process. Maybe one aboveground and one underground. Do I just add new plants into the raws?
2. A workshop ("Meth Lab") that processes these things with the use of, say, coke or something. How do I add the reactions in and stuff?
3. A chance for the workshop to catch fire. This will introduce a factor of risk to the lucrative industry and will probably force people to create a sprinkler system somehow. How do I do this?
(Too much Breaking Bad in my opinion)

DF Gameplay Questions / Dwarves all gone, playing as humans
« on: November 24, 2014, 05:37:45 am »
In my current world, all see no sign of dwarven civilisation and my embark party is composed of humans. Is this normal?

DF Modding / Become One... With the Hive!
« on: November 24, 2014, 12:59:01 am »
Hello Bay12,
I'm trying to make this race of Tyranid/Zerg-esque creatures that it composed of basically a metric fuckton of little guys which are weak but numerous, a couple flying ones and a few large monsters. I have a few questions:
1. How do I make them not attack each other?
2. Is there a way to put a kind of shell of chitinous layer on the creatures' back or something?

DF Gameplay Questions / Freezing Temperatures
« on: November 22, 2014, 09:44:09 pm »
1. Firstly, how cold does it have to be for dwarves aboveground to freeze to death and how long does it take?
2. Does extra clothing stave off frostbite? If so, does quality affect this?
3. Would dwarves be safe from the cold in an aboveground shelter with a roof and walls?

DF Modding / Civ Randomisation
« on: November 07, 2014, 12:39:34 am »
Is there a way to either:
a) Randomise civ traits (in raws) or
b) Randomise which civs are selected (e.g. making the game choose 4 out of 8 possible civs)?

DF Modding / Increasing attack frequency
« on: November 05, 2014, 12:30:45 am »
How do I make goblins and other civs attack earlier (like first year) and more often?

I'm surprised that there are no threads (as far as I know) on the venerable Warhammer 40,000. Owned and strictly controlled by Games Workshop, it's a tabletop and video game franchise set in the far future, where life is shit. Here is the summary/synopsis:

"It is the 41st Millennium. For more than a hundred centuries the Emperor of Mankind has sat immobile on the Golden Throne of Earth.
He is the master of mankind by the will of the gods and master of a million worlds by the might of his inexhaustible armies. He is a rotting carcass writhing invisibly with power from the Dark Age of Technology. He is the Carrion Lord of the vast Imperium of Man for whom a thousand souls are sacrificed every day so that he may never truly die.
Yet even in his deathless state, the Emperor continues his eternal vigilance. Mighty battlefleets cross the daemon-infested miasma of the Warp, the only route between distant stars, their way lit by the Astronomican, the psychic manifestation of the Emperor's will. Vast armies give battle in His name on uncounted worlds. Greatest amongst his soldiers are the Adeptus Astartes, the Space Marines, bio-engineered super-warriors. Their comrades in arms are legion: the Imperial Guard and countless planetary defence forces, the ever-vigilant Inquisition and the tech-priests of the Adeptus Mechanicus to name only a few. But for all their multitudes, they are barely enough to hold off the ever-present threat to humanity from aliens, heretics, mutants -- and far, far worse.
To be a man in such times is to be one amongst untold billions. It is to live in the cruelest and most bloody regime imaginable. These are the tales of those times. Forget the power of technology and science, for so much has been forgotten, never to be relearned. Forget the promise of progress and understanding, for in the grim dark future there is only war.
There is no peace amongst the stars, only an eternity of carnage and slaughter, and the laughter of thirsting gods."

Here is the Wikipedia link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warhammer_40,000

It has its origins in the 80's, so expect to see plenty of 'strange' art. It has a healthy dose of skulls, fortunately. Also, while the tabletop miniatures are really expensive, the video games are not half bad and they're available for a very reasonable price. Anyone else into this?
