I have a dedicated brewer who is idle, and the 'brew from plant' option is red. I'll try the manager and come back.

Or to get it more in line with how dwarven nobles tend to react to things: if the Chosen One doesn't reach a certain quota of gelding by the end of each year, they get executed and we have to get a new one.If the Chosen One does not finish gelding his quota, he will be found guilty of heresy, felony and treason. Such is the weight of responsibility upon one who is charged with lopping off rabbit balls.
What if I told you that DF doesn't force you to kill anything not already hostile? It just tries to be realistic in a way (well, except for noble demands and "justice" system). Hatred for something different (like elves), gladiator-like children training, selecting dwarves for needed traits and getting rid of unwanted ones especially, training soldiers on captured hostile creatures/POWs is the product of your imagination.Well, it's fun.
For marksdwarves do yourself a favour and train them as hammerdwarves first, the shield, dodge, armour user skills trained that way (together with hammer skill + abilities) go a long way to make them sturdier in combat, otherwise you risk a whole squad being taken down by a single elite bowgoblin.Definitely agree. Shields don't help at all if a dwarf tries to hold it backwards in combat or something. The Dodge skill helps immensely against ranged enemies.
