"You take the one on the left, I'll get the one on the right."

**Damascus rolls a 75!**
**Adriana rolls an 83**

The two Tropicanan militiamen never knew what hit them.
Both fell to the ground simultaneously.

"You want any of their gear?"

"Damn. Our rifles and rations were all in the back of the plane. They're probably scattered all over Tropicana by now, and- Hold it." Steele's voice dropped to a whisper. "Do you guys hear that? Footsteps, two pairs of them, heading this way."

273
"Alright. Everyone do a weapons check, I'm going to try to reach Pathfinder." Steele removed the MBITR from his pocket and began speaking into it.
<"Pathfinder, this is Renegade 1-1 Actual, how copy, over?">

**Steele rolls an 87!**

The radio crackles, and a pleasant female voice replies.

<"Renegade, this is Pathfinder, reading you five-by-five. We saw you go down on radar, what's your status, over?">

<"A few bruises, but we're all still breathing. Can't say the same for the pilots, though. Proceeding with the mission as planned, over.">

<"Copy that. Good luck.">

Steele turns back to the group, removing his handgun from its holster and slamming a magazine in.
"We'd better get moving. Which direction should we go?"

274
So would the pilot fail if he rolled 5 or below? And there's a mechanics question that was necessary for a passive skill I had in mind and I forgot to ask after it slipped from my mind - how are opposed rolls dealt with? Like, what if both shooter and pilot succeed, what breaks the tie?

Well, the pilot was rolling to evade the missile.
Since he failed, the missile rolled to find out where on the plane it would hit.

275
Damn it, how did we get shot down?! The pilot's skill was 95!

SOF Learjet 85
Tropicanan Airspace
Approximately 0800 hours, local time.

Damascus Steele was gazing  out the window at the jungle below. Next to him, Adriana flipped through an issue of Covert Operator Monthly with a slightly uninterested expression on her face. On the opposite side of the aisle, Hasan (who had finally removed his helmet and stowed it with the rest of
his gear in the back of the plane) snored loudly while Hanton simply tried to ignore him. In the row behind them, Boyd sat with his cap pulled down over his eyes, making it impossible to tell if he was awake or not. A small ding sounded as the SOF pilot came onto the intercom. "Alright, folks, we're at 2,500 feet. It looks like we'll be beginning our approach to San Cajetan in just a minute, so keep those seatbelts fastened and-" The sound of a frantic beeping in the cockpit cut him off. The copilot shouted an expletive. "Missile launch detected! Break right!" In the panic, nobody remembered to switch off the intercom.

**Pilot rolls a 03!**
**SA-2 SAM rolls a 64!**

The plane seemed to shake as the missile slammed into the fuselage. The whole aft section of the aircraft was ripped away as the Learjet took a shallow nosedive towards the jungle. "Mayday, mayday, mayday," the pilot shouted, presumably into the radio. "We're-" The fuselage cut through the canopy of trees and slammed into the earth below, sliding for maybe a hundred meters before screeching to a halt.
Steele was the first to speak.
"Well, shit. Everyone alright?"

278
"Alright, then, if everybody's ready, I believe we have a plane to catch."
The taxi driver, an old Cubano, seemed a bit perplexed at the group of people heading to Miami International. He tried not to make eye contact with the creepy one in the weird helmet.

279
"Lastly, Mr. Boyd. You don't seem like a conversationalist. Here's your gear."
Steele slid the fourth case across the table and opened the fifth for himself.

280
"Next up, Mr. Fakhr...Wait. How the hell can you see anything with that fucking helmet on? We're inside at night!"

Steele slides the case over.

"Inside there, you'll find an Egyptian Helwan pistol. It's a copy of the Beretta M1951 chambered in 9x19mm Parabellum. There's also five eight-round magazines and forty rounds of nine-mil, plus a KYDEX holster of your own and an Egyptian passport. The Helwan's old, but it was in good condition when it came from the armory, and I cleaned it once myself to make sure."

281
Well, apart from sniper rifles- which Adriana does not have one, apparently- Adriana's only combat skills are explosives and handguns. Until she gets a sniper rifle, she'll be keeping her head down, occasionally tossing a grenade or popping out and taking a few potshots.

But you have a handgun, so you're probably safe.

282
Wait. Oh my god.
Caellath, your only combat skill is Machine Pistols/Submachine Guns?!

Rest in peace, dude.
We'll bury what's left of you inside a Star Wars lunchbox after we get back from Tropicana.

**Press F to pay respects**

283
So, is the "SOF Custom KYDEX rig" a stock for a sniper rifle? If so, will Adriana get a rifle on-site, or does she have to find one herself?

It's a holster for the pistol.
Real KYDEX holsters are forged by ninjas in Mordor and polished with dragon semen, by the way.

284
((The shoulder rig is for a sniper rifle, right?))

((No, it's for the handgun. You'll be able to upgrade it after the first mission. You might come across a sniper rifle in Tropicana, though.))

285
"Next up is you, Miss Hanton."
Steele slides the case labeled "J. Hanton" over to Jesse.

"Ever seen Dirty Harry? Inside there, you'll find the Smith & Wesson Model 29 double-action revolver. There's a KYDEX rig for you, too, but it goes around your waist, rather than the shoulder. There's thirty-six .44 Magnum cartridges and a passport in there, as well. Nothing fancy, I'm afraid. Also, do be sure not to fire that next to anyone's head, unless you want to deafen them."
