The risk is that they will eventually get attached to their training weapon if they kill too much gobbos with it, no ? And then they will refuse to use any other weapon.

I'm pretty sure you can assign them a specific weapon and they'll switch, even if they just adore their training sword. The only downside is they get a bad thought.

(Correct me if I'm wrong)

Has anyone done research on the melt output for foreign weapons? I've modded so my dorfs can forge whips, long swords, etc and I want to know what's best for training my smiths.

Personally, I've always been a big fan of vertical fortresses. It looks nice and seems much more efficient. Hotkeys let me pan through floors and important areas quickly. F1: entrance; F2: kitchen/farms; F3: workshops; F4: forges, etc...

I've found over 120 is just unnecessary, my fps drops to nothing, I can't even keep them all busy. I end up with every inch of fortress engraved and massive, statue-filled pump gyms. I may not even go above 80 anymore.

Lately I've been running low pop forts(30ish) and loving it but my newest fort has just hit 45. I just use the options on the LNP launcher and it's always worked before. I'm still getting migrants and babies.

Any idea why it's not working? Can I manually set the cap?

Again, I have a worldgen that's pretty good at giving me stuff like that. You'll want to turn up the evil, the mineral occurrence rates, and maybe mess with the civs somehow, but it should be a good starting point.

So what happened here? How did my fort become a Baron Wasteland? Was there some mass slaughter elsewhere and we just now met somebody Baron the bad news? I haven't updated to the latest version yet so maybe it was a goblin raid?

If you have steel why use and iron sword bought from humans? he doest like it, even his fists (which are covered in dwarven steel) are better weapons than that.

So my question is how do I mod it so my dwarves can forge long swords?

I'm using the minecart method but having it dump directly into a chute of about 10 z levels and children like to stand under it and get their little, curious heads crushed.
