DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: I hate sponges
« on: October 20, 2014, 12:47:37 pm »
So I removed the aquatic tag but they are still hanging around in their pools scaring my woodcutters. I might arm my vampire mayor and send her underwater to murder them...

Did you do that in the save raws or the game raws?  If you edit the game raws, then nothing will happen because those are copied over to the save folder only on world gen.

Other ways of killing sponges:
DFHack: Use the exterminte race script and target sponges.
DFHack: place a magma source over the area where the spong is advance a few ticks until it's cast in obsidian, and then remove the source.
DFHack: Increase the sponge's age to something tremendously high.  It'll die right away.
Vanilla: Set up a few pumps pumping out of the river right next to the spong you want to kill.  2 or 3 pumps pumping water into an aquaduct that flows into a much lower portion fo the river should be enough to air-drown a nearby sponge.
Vanilla: Build a stack of several floor over sponge, add some heavy items, and then collapse it.  There is a reasonable chance it'll be pulped by the falling junk.
Vanilla: Divert whatever water source they're in.  They air drown pretty quickly.

I've been editing the save raws, I think the problem may be they don't have lungs(or gills?).  I can't seem to get the exterminate command to work, how exactly is it used?

Can I just edit them in-game? Do I need to restart df? I've never tried editing a creatures RAWs before

I'm having some problems with the exterminate command for dfhack. I just want the stupid sponges off my map, giant ones, sponge men, the whole lot. I've also considered removing their aquatic tag so they drown. Would that work? Need help here....

You can build a bridge.  either  inside his pillbox to  execute him or outside to block his LOS

I guess I could but wouldn't magma be much more elegant?
Plus it never hurts to have a sizeable magma reservoir outside your front entrance.

Vamp turret is a good idea but if he goes crazy will he start shooting everyone in sight? I don't need a lunatic up in the bell tower

Steel is definitely a deciding factor but training is much more important. Mind you, I'm still playing .34

She's not actually the oldest dwarf in my fort, my carpenter has her beat by a year.

I think I may deal her away with a coinstar and danger room, then have her prepare for the circus.

I think I've found her. She hasn't had a drink in far too long and it doesn't seem to bother her. She doesn't have any happy thoughts from food, a bedroom, or my legendary dining hall plus she's been a member of over a dozen forts and even a religious leader at some point.

Unfortunately she's also my best marksdwarf.

What should I do with her?

I'm having a but of a vampire issue in my current fort. The first corpse didn't really panic me too much but now the bastard has drained my legendary swordmaster. That guy wiped out a forgotten beast and a handful of cave dragons single-handedly! I'm not impressed.

So how do I identify this horrid creature of the night?
