General Discussion / Re: Things that made you sad today thread.
« on: November 10, 2016, 02:59:07 pm »
Just recently applied for a BPO job. While it might be a dead end job, that's still all well and good, because profit anyway. The sad is when Trump imposes tariffs on companies, probably likely BPOs, to 'End the Offshoring'.

With that to consider, it's really, scarily possible that my career in the BPO industry won't last more than six months.
If you really thought it would be a dead end job then it probably wasn't going to be a stable, long lasting career anyway.

So is it too soon to start laughing about the election yet?

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Or maybe just give each state one point each, make them ALL equal, right?
That's pretty much the reasoning why each state gets two senators. And the house representative numbers are based on population in order to get a balance of power between equal representation and proportional representation in the legislative branch.

The VP's only official duty according to the Constitution is to preside over Senate sessions. Theoretically he could have influence on policy decisions from Trump but I don't know how likely that is.

Pence is only a serious worry for LGBT people if Trump gets assassinated (or becomes incapacitated in some other fashion, stroke, disease, heart attack, whatever) and Pence becomes the new replacement POTUS instead.

I think it's still too early to freak out.

"Clinton wasn't a suitable candidate" > It's the best that ever existed
I can't believe there's people on this forum that actually think Clinton was the best candidate for Dems. Before the primaries were over it seemed Bay12 pol threads were for Bernie and hated Hilldawg.

Gotta love things like this:

"I got over 200,000 fewer votes than my opponent yet I still win!"

Democracy.
My understanding of the electoral college is that the system is supposed to keep all states or regions with roughly similar influence in the presidential election outcomes. If it was purely popular vote all a candidate would probably ever care about or campaign in would be the urban population centers of the nation, and not care about rural or small towns at all.

I'm seeing people on Twitter talking about buying guns to defend themselves and their families...presumably from the neo-nazi alt-right wing death squads that are inevitably going to roam the streets and attack all those minorities now that Trump is gonna be president.

Thank God the second amendment exists and Trump supports the second amendment so people can get a gun if they feel the need to protect themselves from Trump.

With that shitposting on how the tables have turned, I'm afraid that America is only going to become even further polarized and now both sides will be armed.

The presidency...
The senate...
The house...

I don't understand.

What the fuck. What the actual fuck.
It's a movement. I guess it's a yuge movement.

Just listening to Trump's speech now, employing people on large infrastructural projects sound fairly sensible TBH.
This is how it starts.
Large scale government employment for public works was also a tactic employed by FDR in the US during the great depression.

Happy day after Election Day. Hopefully no one here has drank themselves to death. In other news, it's the anniversary of Kristallnacht. What a coincidence.

264
Maybe if things are that bad in two years people will have enough incentive to vote for whatever non-republican senators/representatives are available and change the balance of power in congress to either reduce the influence of POTUS and courts on policies, or impeach Trump or something.

I'm still hopeful this is just overreaction and things won't actually get as bad as everyone is (loudly) saying. Going to sleep now.

A good start would be for the arab oil countries to boycot US. No oil for muslim haters.
I'm pretty sure a part of Trump's platform was getting the US more energy independent. So arab oil countries stopping oil importing to the US would only further incentivize the implementation of that particular policy.

266
It's done? Thank fuck, now everyone can finally shut the fuck up about this goddamn election and talk about something else. Let Trump fade out of the public eye just like Obama did after he got elected in '08.

I mean sure it sucks ass that America still retains enough of a well of hatred to want to elect the guy purely for the sake of electing an outsider from the apparent viper's nest that Washington became in the last 10 years, but now everyone can actually go back to worrying about their own lives and not feeding into a gigantic reality tv-style media shitstorm 24/7/365. If the North American continent ends up being consumed in atomic hellfire, well, that's Dump's problem now.

Yeezus fuckity.

The great political shitstorm of our time has probably just begun.

267
Oh man Trump's victory speech is closing with the choir excerpt of "You Can't Always Get What You Want" by the Rolling Stones. That's kinda funny, after this extremely polarized election.

268
Well, odds are that you'll die of leukemia. I've seen that, it's not pretty. But hey, if you're into that sort of thing...
I dunno, I think I live close enough to possible targets in a theoretical nuclear war scenario that I'd die in the blast.

apparently not
He hasn't even been sworn in yet. I'm trying to be relatively positive about the future for once, Jesus Christ a lot of you sound like you're about to jump in front of a train. I really think you guys are overreacting way too early. There's no telling how effective Trump would actually be after he's spent months campaigning that the whole government is corrupt. Now he has to work with that corrupt government he's been painting as the enemy if he actually wants to do shit.

269
I am tentatively hopeful that a Trump presidency will not be complete shit or end in nuclear annihilation. Surely a billionaire real estate businessman has had enough leadership experience to do a decent presidential term. Either he does well and actually changes things for the better, or the republican establishment controlled congress cockblocks him and nothing significant changes, or things get even shittier just as they always do, or nuclear holocaust.

If it does end in nuclear annihilation then that's probably the coolest way to die. Gotta look at the positives.

Trump has made concrete policy plans though. I've seen Trump supporters sharing them. Look up his Contract with the American Voter. But they don't even get mentioned here.

Maybe the cultural divide between democrats and republicans is more serious than we thought. It seems like this election happened in two separate realities.

Are we in the Berenstein universe or Berenstain universe?

Well, probably more peaceful with a Trump victory than if his supporters felt the election was "stolen" by Clinton, right?
I bet there's gonna be at least one riot in some democrat-packed city somewhere in America in the next couple days.
