DF General Discussion / 0.43.03 vs 0.43.05 vs new release
« on: January 26, 2017, 04:39:37 am »
I haven't been following DF for about a year, so I don't know the details. I strongly prefer playing with a DFHack, but there is only 43.03 version, and it's been like that for a long time. Is it because 64bit release is taking a long time to rewrite? If so, when it is finally out, will it be 43.05 or a new release? And is .05 worth playing over .03? If it's really good, I can skip on DFHack. I didn't want to post it in DFHack thread, since it's not related to development.

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Weapon got blunted?
« on: December 23, 2015, 06:19:08 am »
After some zombie chopping my =Adamantine battle axe= became unusable - attacks are deflected by clothes or only denting skin. First I thought that being tired caused that, but sleeping for 8 hours didn't help. Dropping and re-equipping didn't help either. In reloaded save it worked for a while, and then same happend.

DF Suggestions / Vampire/were-beast behaviour
« on: June 08, 2015, 08:58:24 am »
Vampires and were-beasts are intelligent, they can form relationships (except sexual). Cursed person must be aware of his condition so they don't hurt their friends. Were-cursed dwarf should hide somewhere away from the others before the full moon rises, vampire dwarf shouldn't feed on his best friend.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / 7 days to die(?)
« on: April 01, 2015, 12:21:02 pm »
For the first time I set justice working - guards, hammerer, prison etc. The first convicted was my new mayor, vampire of course. He is imprisoned for 1 year (1 week left).
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
My prison is set in the cavern, so convicted vampires (I got another one) can mine and hunt there. The second vampire died after the cave-in, while ex-mayor just sat there chained.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
It was the best year of his life for sure.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I read dwarf's ethic in entity_default.txt, it says that in dwarven society penalty for murder is death (PUNISH_CAPITAL).
So, it is the last week in his shameful life? Hammerer will smash his brains out or something? Also, which weapon will Hammerer use? A whip, which is in his inventory at the moment, or he'll just grab a random hammer?

DF Suggestions / Hunting with lasso
« on: March 18, 2015, 02:36:52 pm »
Right now, in order to capture an animal you have to build cage traps all around the map or in narrow corridors with baits. My idea is lasso hunting. It is realistic, uses already working game mechanics and content.

1) You order hunters (or any other related profession, maybe trapper) to capture the beast.
2) Hunters equip ropes or chains and approach creature.
3) They throw their lassos at creature - the chance to get the lasso on the beast is based on related skill. If it lands, the beast may try to break free - some big animals may break ropes or chains, especially low quality ones. Lasso material will make the difference too - the wool rope is weaker than the silk one, the copper chain is weaker than the steel one etc. Each lasso tying the creature immobilises it, if it tries to break the lasso it will become exhausted and collapse. Creatures with NOEXERT token may collapse too - after a certain amount of lassos ties the creature it will become fully immobilised, similar to GCS web, but for a longer period of time.
4) Dwarfs don't kill the creature ordered for capture, instead they drag it into the cage.

It was mentioned in some old threads btw. My thread is about mechanics of the thing.

DF Modding / Idea about goblin blood
« on: March 11, 2015, 10:50:16 am »
Soooo, goblins are quite weak against trained dwarfs, even in high numbers. The idea is to make goblin blood black (not very hard) and toxic (a bit harder). When it touches creature's skin it will cause syndromes like fever, oozing, bruising, drowsiness, pain etc.
The question is, will it actually get on dwarf's skin? My arena testing showed, that fully armed unit almost never gets blood on it's body. As I know, the only part, that is not covered is face. How to make blood more splashy? I want it to be something like cave floater's extract http://www.dfwk.ru/Cave_floater, but liquid.

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Of zombies and kings.
« on: December 29, 2014, 12:56:25 pm »
During my last adventure I encountered a few unusual things.

First, when I walked near the elven forest retreat, I noticed many groups on the fast travel map. It was small tents with sleeping dwarfs and elves (lol), apparently refugees. I checked several tents and then this happened:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
He shot me with a wooden arrow a few times, then I got closer and started working with my warhammer. He was quite tough, blocked many shots with his bow and bruised my stomach.

Second wierd thing, my hammer severed his limbs. Is that possible to sever parts with the blunt damage? It wasn't pulping, I managed to find his arms, leg and fingers all around the tent. (No screenshots  :()

Third wierd thing. I moved to a necro tower nearby in search for slab. I was ready to find an undead horde and mangled necromancers inside the tower, but the only zombie I saw was "Zasit Enjoymirorred's corpse". He attacked me, and god, he was badass. One friendly necromancer engaged into the fight and Zasit punched through his head and broke my arm. After a long fight my char landed a nice blow.

Done with you... WAIT WUT! Hey, you can't do this with a f*cking hammer stuck in your head! Well, maybe once more.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Off with your head. Then I wondered inside the tower, all residents were friendly, all but one goblin with the "Boss" title. He was "no quarter", but when he saw me, he just ran out of tower screaming for help. Nothing unusual. Then I decided to find out who was that Zombie.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

He was a king of a fallen dwarven kingdom, killed by a demon 140 years ago. Wow.

And the last thing, about killing undead. Zombies are fine when their heads are chopped off or badly crushed, but instant-kill when pulped. Where is the logic?

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Blunt weapons - OP or not?
« on: December 25, 2014, 01:56:39 am »
So, I created a new adventurer, a huge manly dwarf with 81000 (!!!) height. The best weapon for such guy was -silver maul-. Well, I tried to kill a wild cow with it, and it wasnt very effective. Just bruices, almost no fractures. When it finally passed out, I shattered it's skull five (!!!) times without killing. Then I passed from exhaustion. The only way to finish the poor animal was strangling. Is that it? I am wielding it with multigasp.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Adventurer in fortress mode
« on: November 16, 2014, 03:26:40 pm »
http://mkv25.net/dfma/browsemovies.php?searchValue=Cacame&searchArea=movieName&submit_search=Search
How da heck Cacame got into the fortress mode? I tried to retire my gobo adventurer in fortress, it was fine, I greeted residents, they were friendly. When I unretired fortress, adventurer and his companions were hostile and attacked my dwarfs on sight. Any thoughts?
