Play With Your Buddies / Re: Pokemon Reborn - Saving the city one kidnapping at a time
« on: August 05, 2023, 02:47:26 am »Spoiler: Journal of SQ, page 41: I Like Trains, Vs. Amaria (click to show/hide)

I actualy remember him! I helped him find a crappy house so he would have a place to stay until they rebuild the train station, and he gave me an Onix. Now that Adrienn helped to pimp his house out, he doesn't want to leave anymore. Choice specs are a way better reward than Onix, really.

After beating Titania I've got a chance to finance another project - the Azurine Island wildlife center. It might not be called that, but it's close.

Remember that secret Team Meteor facility that housed the Camerupt for the Pyrous Mountain PULSE project? The Place where I found Snow Pea? They repurposed it for a conservation center. They breed pokemon to release them all over Reborn to restore the ecology of the region destroyed by PULSE effects.

I need to help this poor woman or else her bonus is lost! I also want the egg, of course. I don't believe I have a Carnivine, but I know where to find it.

There's still a few patches of grass in Jasper Ward, the place with the police station. You'd think they'd keep pokemon like Carnivine out of the city. Then again, killing a venus fly trap isn't that hard. Just sprinkle it with water that isn't optimally acidic.

The Carnivine has been immediately traded for an egg that had been stolen from the conservation center.

I've been told apes are a good investment. Now I've got five kinds. When all of this is over, I will be so loaded. I hope nobody screenshots.

Chimchar is poggers; I'm sure its future owner will be delighted to get one. It's not Chikorita, I guess.

Too bad I've paid for this project, so I don't have to listen to you nerds. I'll catch every pokemon on this island out of pure spite. I already did something like this in some park.

Yo, Bulbasauruses, my favorite dicynodonts! No, wait, these are the ones with onions on their backs. Never mind.

I've decided to be helpful instead, and asked what they needed to repopulate the island. Simisages will be no problem, but for Lurantises I'd have to make sure it's daytime.

My Simisage, Brock Colli will spend some time with Pink Gordo so I can get a female of his species to breed with. Umm... I'm not so sure if that's such a good idea, but I'm in it for the reward.

Yo, this guy is male, but I'm keeping him because he's awesome.
Brock and his newly hatched daughter were deposited to the wildlife center to save their species.

Lurantis can be caught as is, and I don't even have to evolve a Fomantis. The first one I've encountered was a shiny. Pretty!

That's it, all pokemen delivered. The reward awaits me in the Grand Hall rather than here because they want to keep it secret. They probably want to give me the Genesect that they've been working on secretly.

This is very nice! I'm facing Amaria now, then Hardy. Neither of them likes them weeds. This is not all! However to see it all I'd have to wait until the sun's up.

When it's monkeys and mantises it's alright, but if it's Foonguses and Amoguses it's suddenly an issue? I can take care of, let's say, eighteen.

Overkill? No way! I was asked to do that! What do you mean Mega Lombardi could strip this island of all life using her incredible powerful wings?

I put no effort into this quest, so I'll take it.

The sun came up, and now I can receive the other reward for helping with conservation. Bulbasaurs started appearing as a rare encounter on the Azurine Island only during the day. This is the only starter that can be found as a wild pokemon, I believe, but it still requires some work to get, so it's not all that different.

Time to deliver the egg!

Personally I like Bulbasaur because it's good at utilizing its Leech Seed. The egg woman doesn't seem to think much of it though.

And now before meeting Amaria I'm doing some training. It's more item farming than training, actually.

With this tip from Lyn I'll definitely beat Amaria first try.

Uh... thanks? Victoria confirms that Lyn wasn't biased in her advice, and electric attacks really will be my way to victory.
I know that Amaria's team changes depending on the route, and whether the player chooses to fight in a single or double battle. She'll actually allow me to choose, and of course I'll pick single fight.

I'm going to go against what the girls said, and start with a grass type. I do believe that regardless of everything, Amaria always starts with Starmie, a pokemon with a strong focus on special attack, and with a wide variety of move types. Snow Pea's special defense, Light Screen, and the ability to suck the life of the enemies should allow him to at least counter Starmie.

Amaria has one pokemon that's infamous for being hard to kill. Yes, I'm talking about Kingdra. As a dragon, Kingdra is vulnerable to fairy attacks, and this is what I'll try to take advantage of. Don't worry, I gave Ingrid some exp candies to raise her to lv 90.

Lombardi's main job is destroying Amaria's very own Ludicolo. Her ridiculous speed should be enough to protect her from Ice beam. The neat thing is that Mega Pidgeot's ability allows it to always hit regardless of base accuracy.

I've got no sophisticated strategies for Gatorade. He's just gonna ap with his Thunderbolt.

Forb has the unique ability to take the battle underwater where non-water physical attacks barely work. Seeing how most of my team is special-oriented, I'm not worrying about this strategy backfiring too much. In the previous playthrough I used Dive, and Amaria's Lapras couldn't hurt my Seaking at all. I think Forb is also my best weapon against Amaria's Swampert that may or may not mega evolve.

Nala is strong and electric, which according to both Lyn and Victoria, should be enough.

Hey, someone dropped this crap in Amaria's annoying underwater maze! Not useful for me in any capacity.

I've got a feeling I'm interrupting something. Should I come back later?

Wait, why didn't Titania come here to protect Amaria again? Oh right, because she doesn't actually care. Lin implied that, but she didn't even know just how right she was. Unfortunately sowing discord is my job.

For fuck's sake! Navigating this stupid maze is annoying even without having to search for Amaria who doesn't actually want to be found!

Fortunately a teleporter appeared so I don't have to swim around blindly anymore.

Yeah, I stole them. First I defeated Titania in battle, then took the bracelets from her and came to beat you too. I'm not giving the bracelets to anyone, just so we're clear. Hey, come back here!

Or so she had you believe.

One of you deserved better, but I'm not so sure it was Titania. She's simply unable to love. She conquers and enslaves.

Hopefully.

I wish, but despite all my wisdom, nobody ever listens to me.

Understandable, but suggesting telling me was a douchy move. It's something I'd expect from myself.

Is it now? Imagine thinking being freed from your abusive girlfriend is comparable to drowning here and fucking dying. No, she hadn't been brainwashed, not at all. Wait, how does she talk underwater?

If I wasn't unconscious, I'd give her a piece of my mind.

I hope now Titania realized what she's done, and Amaria realized what she's become.
Titania: Are we really going to keep on like this with SQ being here and listening?
Amaria: Right, there's no need to fight anymore; we can...
Titania: You tried to fucking kill her.
SQ: *COUGH* No swearfing in my FUCKING pokemon game!
Amaria: It's like you never killed anyone!
Titania: I've been fighting to keep everyone alive!
Amaria: I've been fighting to keep myself alive!

Oh, I think she's realizing! She's realizing!

That's not much of a consolation, is it? The treasure that was a burden from the very start has now become a curse.

Oh no, not before I get my badge! I'm not waiting a decade for Amaria to be replaced! Though maybe with Adrienn and Amaria in charge things will go much more smoothly?
I also noticed that Lin is much more proactive in Reshiram route than she is in Zekrom route. Maybe Zekrom route really is the best one after all? Then again, Zekrom is the dragon of ideals, while Reshiram represents truth. Is it better to get the ending with the least amount of suffering, or the "true" ending? It's Black/White all over again.

Cirrus, I asked you for a tip on how to defeat your trainer; I don't see how vaping could help. Maybe if I rip a fat vape, I can make a smokescreen so Amaria's pokemon can't hit?

I kinda vibe with her. If I wasn't after the badge, I'd just let the whole thing resolve itself.

I miss the Amaria from the beginning, back when I could call her a friend. Now the only people I can rely on are Adrienn and Victoria, and they are stuck in the Grand Hall.

I don't think she's unforgivable even though she tried to kill me. Unlike Titania, she's a good person; she was just pushed too far while she was already standing on the edge for many years. And I don't mind the whining as long as it's not some poetic bullshit. Seeking attention isn't a bad thing. Sometimes you just get tired of isolating yourself.
But I do need the badge, so as much as I'm sympathetic towards Amaria, I do want to fight her.

Well, I tried my best.

Her sprites are different than they are if the breakup doesn't happen. I'm fighting evil Amaria now, so nobody is going to hold back. Not that I intended to. Alright, let's make some waves!

That's hardly fair. I didn't agree on this format! Even if this isn't my favorite kind of battle, it can't be worse that Titania. I've got a solid team, so I'm only moderately worried.
Immediately I've noticed that Amaria started with a special wall in the form of Vaporeon. Cirrus, I thought we were friends!
Cirrus: Vape!
SQ: So you want a bribe? Mango cartridges for holding back? Forget it, you moist vermin!
The only physical attacker in my team right now is Nala, and with her low speed, I'm not bringing her in until one of my pokemon dies.

Ingrid somehow survived Seismitoad's Surf and retaliated with her own Magical Leaf. While it's not an incredibly powerful move, 4x weakness to weed attacks does a huge difference. Seismitoad isn't that great of a pokemon anyway, especially defensively.

To be expected. Cirrus not only took down Ingrid, but also moved the battle underwater. Well, at least Light Screen is set up.

It's very much not good. I somehow forgot why I even picked Nala. Sure, getting rid of Primarina was a pogger choice, but not the ideal one.

Society has moved beyond the need of Vaporeon. Find better copypastas.

Perish Song forced me to switch out Forb for Lombardi and revive Gatorade. Blastoise's Aura Sphere was powerful, but somehow didn't do that much to Lombardi.

And then Lapras died to Perish Song. That wasn't very surprising.

In the end it didn't matter though, because my start was very bad.

Woah, that one was even worse! Nala is pathetically slow, among the slowest actually.

That's an interesting turn of events. Bloom Doom out of water changes the field to Grassy Terrain. Here my grass moves are enhanced, while Amaria's water pokemon lose their advantage.

Primarina wanted to dazzle its way out of this, but the terrain... This might be the one!

The Grassy Terrain faded, and Vaporeon dived underwater. Fortunately it didn't matter, at least for Blastoise who was sucked dry by Forb. This dancing pineapple is more useful than I ever thought it would be.

Physical attacks? Gatorade doesn't need those to dispose of Vaporeon. Being underwater actually helped me in this case, because electric moves are massively boosted on this field. When she designed the gym, Amaria must have known that the water would be a double-edged sword.

Her ace went down in one turn. It was kinda sad, actually.
The true star of this battle was Forb, surprisingly, because of her great special defense, perfect type combination, and cheerful personality. What I didn't realize at first is that Swift Swim ability is always active in water, allowing her to outspeed everything.
Amaria's double battle team is much different than single battle team. In singles she has a choice specs Ludicolo that kills everything with Ice Beam or Surf. I actually had to use a berry that reduced damage from ice so I could defeat it with my Noivern.

Scald is a strong water attack that can burn the target. It's not as powerful as Surf, but it hits only one target, which ironically can be advantageous. Now I'll be happy to disappear from Amaria's life forever. She's changed, and I don't like the new Amaria.

Team Meteor is trying to push Team Good Guys back, it seems. They've lost a lot of ground when I destroyed the Devon hideout. Lin is taking sneaky pot shots at us, and she actually managed to remove several strong trainers from the equation: Ame is dead, Amaria and Titania are busy sulking, and Adrienn is drowning in paperwork. At this pace we will bleed out before we can launch an attack.

I just realized why I haven't found Corin-Rouge where he was supposed to be! One of the doppelgangers was him all along! I know I should be helping in that one city, but I've got a more important thing to do.
I went to the police station, but they told me that the Tourmaline Desert is outside their jurisdiction. Instead the chief handed me a pair of goggles so I don't get sand in my eyes. How thoughtful.

Long story short: he was on the same train as I when it exploded. He wanted to help people but was broke. Then he resorted to stealing from the rich and giving to the poor. It just so happens that I'm poor and want my super rare pogeyman back!

Give me back my chaos emeralds, Rouge!

Klefki did real numbers on Framme! She hit herself due to Swagger, and then Klefki got her with Fould Play. Because of the paralysis, Klefki could set up Spikes, which isn't a problem, really.

Corin's pokemon are strong! Or mine are weak. X-Scissor hurt like a bitch, but Bloom Doom hurts even more.

Sunlight Inferno OVERDRIVE! Chanel had no chance to survive this one.

This fox was DEADLY! Heat wave set fire to the grassy terrain created by Forb, then Lombardi's Hurricane put out the flames, and the field went back to desert that enhances Heat Wave. I needed Extremespeed to finish this dreadful creature.

Liepard? Really? I'm not saying that this pokemon is completely useless, but it's not even mid tier.

What? It's all because Framme missed once! I need to find something that could deal with Delphox better. It probably won't be Microcline's Explosion, because Spikes will mess up with her Sturdiness. Hmmst...

Swagger? More like... I've got one but I'm not gonna say it. Dogmeat melted the Klefki before it could set up spikes or do any other unpleasant thing.

Ain't that some bull.

Sand Rush ruins everything. It all depended on Forb's performance, but she got wrecked with a single hit and never got to use her Z-move! I don't believe that this hedgehog freak was faster than a Mega Pidgeot.

Eat critical Hurricane, furrybait!

Eat fists rom my furrybait, weedman! You too, cat!

So... this is the super sectert ultra powerful pokemon. I'm not upset. I'd be upset if it was a Woobat or something else that is in my pokedex. Framme put it down with Extreme Speed.

Wouldn't it be funny if I was to leave the Magikarp in the sweltering desert, under scorching sun?

This is the least I could do for this fish. It's going straight to the Holding Facility.

Losing battles isn't great for the ol' bank account. Fortunately I have a large stockpile of trash that people are willing to pay fortune for. I need 100k to rebuild the railnet. I won't be using the trains, but that doesn't matter there's nothing in it for me.

I can no longer enter the underground through here. I suppose there are trains down there now.
Another thing that makes the railnet not worth it, other than the fact that Fly makes it obsolete, is that the names of the stations don't indicate where the stations are located. I know where Grandview Station is, but what the hell is an Ivyline Station?

Spyce is like 500 meters from this place, the station in Coral Ward. Is it really worth taking a train? This whole project wa just a waste of MY money.

This poor guy hauls crates, boxes and the likes all day, and he's not even allowed to have a fighting pokemon to lift for him. Someone in the port is insecure about his skinny calves or something like that. But what if he had a Probopass to levitate cargo containers? I'd chose an Alakazam for the job, but he's got different ideas.

Illegal Probopass for an illegal egg. La Pointe was the Nosepass that I traded my Watchog for, so technically it was Watchog for the egg. Pretty obvious that it's Togepi.

I wish I could use it, but alas.

With the railnet repaired, the secret entrance to the Devon building has been sealed, which allowed me to get this item that I longed for so much. Unfortunately it's just Steelixite.

Lost and found, eh? More like lost and taken by me! Assault vest is an amazing item if you only plan to use damaging moves. The other item was an iron plate, but I had like five of those already.

This guy also showed up. He's the one to grant Lombardi the real ultimate power. With Heat Wave she can effectively deal with steel and ice pokemon that were a serious danger to her just a minute ago.

Some other guy had this. While dragon moves are only effective against dragons, Reversal used by Dogmeat isn't effective against anything. That's what I get for using Arcanine as a special attacker.

Understandable, have a good day. That means I need Fly to get to Chrysolia. I've got Lombardi, Threebird, and Rouge for that. It's hard not to have a flying pokemon even with my rules.

I paid for the whole thing; I can't let these pokemen interrupt MY project! I'm going there right now!

I may be wrong, but this seems to be the place. The horde of angry pokemon is what I base my suspicion on.

That's very troublesome. Using Earthquake twice in a cave literally clears the board. Aron and its evolutions have Sturdy, so I can't stop them from Earthquaking.

There's always the option to change the field. I could have brought Arlene to create a crystal cave, but that field is easily destroyed by Earthquake.

This was far from the end. After those six, I have to deal with eight whole Aggrons.

One of the Aggrons had a telluric seed that dealt damage to it, which allowed me to bypass sturdy, if it even had it.

Continental Crush? Twice? Come on, this is bullshit. It's good to know that none of the Aggrons will have the Z-rock now.

I don't know what the consensus on Mega Pidgeot is, but I love it. Heat Wave killed one Aggron and weakened the other one so Framme could finish it off. This continued until there was no Aggrons left.

I had caught a Lairon in the scrapyard in my previous playthrough, and aggronite proved to be massively useful. Now? I don't have an Aggron, so it's not gonna be of much use.

I've received payment AND saved Bigby Wasteland! Firium-Z would have been more useful before Titania, but I insisted on the affordable living project back then. Good job me.
That concludes all the railnet-related sidequests.

type. Frankly, I have no idea what pokemon Terra has, and even whether she prefers single or double battles. Snow Pea serves as a scout in this attempt. If he bumps into a Gliscor, he's dead on the spot.
