General Discussion / Re: Survey on communication in MMORPG's.

Understandable. Still, a pointer to one such aggregator forum would be a good start, as I would be able to look for similar sites and acquire data there.

General Discussion / Survey on communication in MMORPG's.
« on: June 29, 2023, 04:50:45 pm »
Hello, I'm working on a university BA dissertation titled "Analysis of Communication in MMORPG videogames", and part of that work involves using research tools to collect data relevant to the subject.
I come to you with a survey in order to ask: How do you communicate in MMORPG's? This survey is split into two parts: Part 1 is mostly demographics related to age, gender and country of origin, Part 2 is dedicated to chat in MMORPG's, voice chat as well as the concept of Guilds. No personally identifiable data is collected or stored. If you are a gamer who plays MMORPG's, feel free to fill out the survey, your effort will be greatly appreciated.

SURVEY (Google Forms): https://forms.gle/cFktrS3cBcBKbuCKA

Let me know if there are any difficulties with the survey or if you have any feedback to share.

I'd also like to take the time to ask: what forums are good for collecting survey data? I'd like to rely on more than just Bay 12.

Understandable, thank you for your information.

The survey does not request any personal information outside of basic demographics (age, gender and country of origin), nor is it made with a financial motive in mind so it should be acceptable. Which forum would be the most appopriate? Dissertation is about communication in MMORPG's.

Subject message says it all. I am not sure of Bay 12 Forums' stance on surveys, and I prefer to ask before posting one.

It's certainly an IPS monitor, although I don't know whenether or not that classifies as OLED...

7
Greetings! I once again come asking for advice. Today I have noticed that my gaming laptop's monitor (the same item) has yet another defect. In this case, it's a greyish discolouration on the lower left corner of my monitor. This discolouration isn't visible on any intensely coloured background, however it is noticeable on black. What is the cause of the problem, and how do I fix it?
Worth noting is that the discolouration disappears when I press the edge where it is on slightly.

And to answer the previous post about the whirring sound: it turns out that the cooling system was defective, so it was replaced.

8
So, this sort of noise (and vibration) was intended all along? This is no sign of a manufacturing defect?

9
Greetings! Just shy of a month ago, I've bought a MSI Katana GF66 with a RTX 3060, as it had decent specifications for its price tag. However, yesterday I have noticed that when I am running games, the laptop started emitting a whirring noise from its left side. Said noises are accompanied by slight vibration, felt whenether I touch the keyboard. What is the cause of this? What are the solutions to it?

Other Games / What is currently happening in EVE: Online?
« on: April 24, 2021, 08:29:45 pm »
Hello, ladies and gentlemen. I come here to ask you a question.

Every-so-often, I check on Sov Maps to see the territorial status of EVE's nullspace. The southwestern corner of nullspace was occupied by the Imperium alliance, with its capital in the constellation of Delve (to my knowledge). That was a few months ago. Imperium, from what I saw, was pushed away from its perimeter constellations by Legacy, led by Test Alliance Please Ignore, and Legacy was pouring into Delve. I've decided to check Sov Maps again, to see how the situation evolved.

The Imperium was mostly wiped off the map, with a few exclaves located in the constellations Tenerifis and Impass, and one system located in the constellation of Fountain.

I must ask then: what happened? Can someone from the Bay 12 community enlighten me with a recap on the entire war, and what had transpired into the current situation? I've tried to read articles on Eve News and INN, but Eve News was a confusing read, while INN seemed like propaganda, and I'd rather avoid propaganda untill I have a reaible sight on the greater picture.

Other Games / Re: A problem with ESO, or rather one of its products.

I am happy to announce that after 8 days, Bethesda Support managed to give me the 1500 Crowns that were previously missing. My faith in humanity has been slightly restored.

They probably dont give a shit about your apathy but asking for a refund will get their attention.

To clarify, apathy towards the pet is just to avoid them saying
"well if we refund your product, we'll have to take your pet away.  You don't want that right?" Then they ignore the refund discussion and you.

.............................
!What you say to Support!

Dear Support,
I purchased your product, "Newcomer Pack".  I was promised 1500 Crowns.  That is why you got my money. I want all the items promised me or a refund.  Please fix this ASAP or give me a refund for this purchase.
...........................

If they refuse to fix the issue within 20 days of purchase, contact your credit card company and dispute the charge*.  Little recourse my  ;D$$

*You have either 30 or 60 days to refute any credit card charge.

I will keep this in mind in case I will need to be sterner about my dealing with Bethesda Support. At best, I'll get my missing Crowns and I'll eventually forget it ever happened. At worst I'll get banned and lose more than I gain.

I haven't really played ESO in quite a while, and can't really give much in the way of advice about getting your newcomer pack crowns. I would caution you with regard to trying to dispute the charge if you made the purchase through steam. I have heard several unfortunate stories about people who made similar decisions and lived to regret it.

I would also suggest you hold off on the any race, any alliance purchase. No racial perks are going to make or break a build, and in my experience you will be better off mostly focusing on one character anyway. As a final warning, crafting is(was) extremely useful in the game(almost mandatory), but the materials for crafting will consume a very large portion of your inventory. The subscription offers unlimited crafting material storage, and honestly, it is the biggest draw of the subscription. When I last played, the game felt obscenely restrictive without having it.

It would seem that a permanent banishment is indeed possible, as I can't see any other critical negative outcome outside of an actual lawsuit. I do not plan to purchase the ESO Plus service - subscription requires commitment to fully capitalize upon, and I am not a person of commitment. In any case, I thank you for the advice.

They're saying go to ESO support with that subject in mind.

I see. So next time I send a ticket to ESO support, I should ask for a refund and show apathy towards the other contents of the pack?

I wonder if the putting the words "Refund" and "Newcomer Pack" in the same sentence might get a better response from support.  Act like you don't care about the pet.

Steam says it does not offer refunds for the Pack...

Well, at the very least I am not alone in this. Hopefully this will be fixed by the time the new chapter comes out, or shortly after that, though seeing that there was no fix from as far back as October 2020, my hopes are dimmed considerably. Luckily, it was not a complete waste either - the other items were delivered succesfully.

Goggling around as i don't play this game, it looks like this kind of problem indeed isn't rare for that game :

A guy mentionned that he finally got his due after waiting 12 days instead of the 2 mentionned.
I guess whatever company is doing the customer support , don't expect anything fast.

I am willing to wait a week or two for a fix. If I do not receive said fix, I will send another ticket. ESO isn't a bad game, quite the opposite in fact, but it does have Todd Howard's Bugs Aplenty Blessing(?). Some things just work, some things don't.
