Other Games / A problem with ESO, or rather one of its products.
« on: April 08, 2021, 07:45:31 am »
As always, I am unsure whenether or not I chose the correct subforum. If my subforum choice was wrong, do tell me in replies!

Good day, gentlemen. I come here in search of advice. A few days ago, I have decided to purchase the game Elder Scrolls: Online, since it is on a discount and I've decided to extend the free week until eternity (or when the servers inveitably shut down 10 years into the future). Alongside the Greymoor edition, I've also purchased the Newcomer Pack since I planned to purchase the Any Race, Any Alliance bundle. The contents of the pack are as follows:

- 1500 Crowns
- A pet. Fire Salamander methinks.
- Some consumables.

Unfortunately, the milisecond I logged into the game, I've noticed that the 1500 Crowns were not, in fact, trasnferred to my account (although the other items were included). Sent a notice to Support as soon as I've noticed, and they gave me generic advice: Check if the payment was indeed made, reload the game and wait 2 days for processing. I did all of that (I paid for the game and the pack in a single transaction) but Crowns were still missing, so I've provided the info they asked for. A few hours later one of the Support employees contacted me in a reply. Said employee assumed I missed ESO Plus coins, and scanned for said coins. He found nothing, and asked for a proof of purchase. I provided the info to the best of my ability, I included the transaction receipt, my SteamId and the product name (I put Newcomers Pack in, but I considered putting the $0 1500 Coin Pack sub-transaction instead). I also put myself in the "idendity of the purchaser" field despite having no idea what that means. I sent them a reply with said info, and with correction saying that I was missing 1500 Newcomers Pack Crowns, not ESO Plus Crowns. This happened 2 days ago.

I've yet to receive a response.

What am I supposed to do with such a conondrum? I admit, this is the first time in some time since I had to deal with support, and the first time in a very long while to deal with a inefficient support service. I simply am not prepared for this.

Life Advice / Re: Computer detects headphones as speakers.

That I do not know. What I do know is that I have an USB adapted included with the headphones. Plugged the jack into the adapter, then the adapter into a working USB port. That solved the issue.

Good day, ladies and gentlemen, I come to you with a problem. When connecting my headphones (CORSAIR HS45 SURROUND) directly to a headphone jack in my computer, my device reads my headphones as Speakers functioning on Realtek. This, sadly, results in microphone not functioning when needed. What causes this problem, and are there any fixes outside of sending either the headphones or the computer to repairs? USB converter solves the issue, however I would still like to use the headphone jack directly.

This is probably your best bet: https://web.archive.org/web/20190626004755/http://www.apolitical.info/webgame/sourcecode.php
It's the sourcecode for the game, apparently (seems large enough for a text adventure).
Seems like you could probably split it into the relevant files and run it locally.

Sorry for the 2 day delay in reply. I infrequently check Bay 12 Forums.

Alas, source code is useless if one does not have the skill to compile it. I will need an compiled version of Age of Fable before I can play it.

I am also more than amiable to accept alternative propositions in the event that Age of Fable entered an state of permanent defunction or when an compiled version has been provided to me.

Good day, gentlemen. I hope that I have not interrupted your activities.

I have come to ask the following question: What has happened to the text webgame known as Age of Fable, which was released for free back in 2006? It's domain (www.ageoffable.net) returns an error message stating that the domain in question does not exist.  I found the game to be quite enjoyable, and I would be greatly saddened if it would become permanently unavailable.

Life Advice / Re: Computer only detects 50% of available RAM.
« on: September 16, 2020, 02:04:21 pm »
Has it always been like this? Did you build this PC yourself? Can you confirm your motherboard version and what memory sticks you bought? Are the sticks matched? Did you install them yourself?
1: Not always.
2: No, my father repurposed it.
3: Cannot confirm, I haven't really checked into what exactly those RAM blocks were.
4: Probably.
5: No, I did not.

I eventually managed to ask my father to fix this problem for me. Turns out that the processor wasn't maintained for some while and that caused memory reduction.

Just to check if your hardware is taking up large amounts of RAM: Are you running an AMD APU? I know that those will take up a decent chunk of system RAM (2 GB by default, I think). State what CPU is in that system. It's in Control Panel > System and Security > System; the CPU in your system is listed in the Processor field. Also, check in Task Manager > Performance > Memory. There's the Hardware Reserved field that shows how much RAM has been allocated to other hardware. State that too.
Will state the exact specifications. If my memory is correct, I have an AMD 6-core processor that has an strong tendency to overheat.

What version of windows is this?

Windows 10 Pro, if I recall correctly.

BIOS detects roughly 8100 MB of memory. This means that BIOS can detect both RAM blocks, but not Windows. I suspect the motherboard starts to fail.

Post initial edition: I also managed to use the Windows Memory Repair tool as well - it did not show any errors. Most likely I am dealing with either hardware failure affecting RAM detection, motherboard failure or Windows being buggy.

Secondary post intial edition: Windows 10 Control Panel shows that 8 GB of RAM is installed, but only 3.95 GB is available. Website HowtoGeek has informed me that one of the possible causes is that 4 GB of RAM has been allocated to other hardware.

The first thing you should check if you haven't — it's not clear in the post — is whether the BIOS can recognise the memory. You should find out whatever way your motherboard expects you to enter the BIOS (you'll usually see a message like 'press DELETE to enter setup' while starting up, but every BIOS is different so it may well be one of the Fkeys or something), then look around to try to find out how much memory the BIOS thinks you have installed. And since every BIOS is different, I have no way of telling you were to find that information either, sorry. Technology is terrible.

Will commit to this method (as well as all future ones) tomorrow. I thank you for this exponentially quick piece of advice. I will let you know what the BIOS says.

Good day, ladies and gentlemen. I seek advice on computer maintenance and repair. Today, I have discovered that out of 8 GB of RAM that I currently have at disposal, my computer detects (and by consequence utilizes) only half of that. If my memory is correct, utilizing the memory repair tool included within Windows 10 showed no errors but that was some time ago. What could cause my computer to detect only half of my RAM and what are potential solutions to this problem?

If an given solution requires funds to commence, I would like to know the exact amount of funds required to fully commence an given solution beforehand. I can spare no more than ~$250 converted into PLN currency.

For those who don't understand the above message written in bold: If an solution requires money to do, I'd like to know the price first.

Post intial edition: Not sure if I should ask this question under The Generic Computer Advice Thread megapost. Time shall be the judge here.

Seems to be here for its website: http://atp.pedia.szote.u-szeged.hu/~atp/main.html

Address is supposedly 160.114.100.96 port 3000, though I haven't, like, checked.
Mudlet says I'm connected to 160.114.112.134:3000. Adress's atp.pedia.szote.u-szeged.hu, while port number is 3000.

I have zero idea about the answer to any of those in-game questions (though the name rings an old, very faint bell, as does the mention of an elements city... might have been one I dipped into years and years ago, back when I was sorta' interested in muds), but just the clear it up you're definitely asking in the right subforum. Other Games is indeed the place for questions like the ones you have.

That at the very least cleared up confusion when it comes to forums. However, no other question has been answered to as of yet and I'm still awaiting for any sort of answer. I will wait for a day or two, after which I'll ask o r/mud - an subreddit focusing on MUD's.

Other Games / Question for an obscure MUD: After the Plague.
« on: June 22, 2020, 04:39:05 pm »
Good evening! As I've been playing an mostly abandoned MUD called After the Plague, and since I haven't seen a fellow soul logged on for a while, I come to ask: Where do I find guildhalls for the following guilds?:

Alchemist
Barbarian
Bard
Sohei
Bodyartist
Samurai
Enchanter
Necromancer
Priest of Themes
Silent Shadows

While precise directions from the  Elements' City (the place where you start the game) would be the best, I am also willing to accept pointers towards the place in question. If access to guildhall is blocked due to an quest, an walkthough must be supplied, if possible and if applicable within guidelines and rules.

If I receive no answers here, that is fine. I will ask the same question on r/mud, an subreddit dedicated to MUD's.

I wish you a good day.
It is uncertain whenether or not this is the correct forum. I'll be damned more if I don't muster the courage to ask though, so here goes nothing.

An secondary question: If I change religions in game, will I be able to return to the religion I changed from? (Example: If I swtich from Mielikki to Themes, will I be able to switch from Themes to Mielikki and vice versa?)

Well, a quick poke around suggests a rather intriguing possibility as to why they got delisted: https://killapenguin.com/progresslog/news/tales-of-illyria-google-and-the-reality-of-corporate-retaliation/

That answers one question, and I am grateful. However, I still have no idea if the game can be bought at all.
