I am not sure, I should test that

182
Or do they? I just tested if a Elephant seal man with grand master in all fighting skills would win in a fight against a giant one and it took it only a few seconds for the elephant seal man to win.

And giant elephant seal triumphs in under a second!

I got board and decided to do some experimenting in object testing arena. I put all "man" creatures (like mantis man, whale man, ect) together in an area to see which one would win in an all out fight. I did the same for all giant versions of creatures as well. I found the results both interesting and informative.

So who won? Well as it turns out for the man version of all creatures it was *drum roll* . . . Elephant seal man! But was this a fluke? No. I tested 2 more times and on all of these tests the winner was indeed Elephant seal man.

As for the giants, it seemed like there were more types available. I placed all together, multiple times. The result of this was . . . Giant elephant seal! It was a good fight to. At first I thought the giant cave spider was going to win since it webbed EVERYTHING and proceeded to kill systematically kill them. But then it was just it and the giant elephant seal left, stuck in the web, struggling. But as it turns out, that little seal won . . . erm big seal, well you know.

Turns out that as far as creatures go, elephant seals are BA! Do not underestimate them. Now to see if an elephant seal man can beat a giant elephant seal.

Thank you all for the info. This is very useful and I now feel comfortable enough to continue my adventure. As for my fortress, that is a topic for another time.

Well thats some info on material, but what obsidian? How about wood and quality of the weapon in question as well as type of sword like scimitar?

DF Gameplay Questions / What is the hierarchy of weapon and armor?
« on: June 30, 2014, 03:02:54 am »
Hiya! I am a newbie to DF (just over a week into the game) and surprise, surprise; my first topic on the forum is requesting help. Like many newbies there is many features overwhelming me within the vast game of DF. Over all however I am enjoying the game.

Currently I am experimenting with adventure mode. I created a world with the most treacherous of options. LOTS of savagery, and LOTS of forgotten beasts. I gathered many would be adventures to my aid and traveled to the most savage of areas I could find. Fun then ensued. But now my character has found a weapon shop. I thought it was a good time to replace my starting sword with something better . . . then the confusion happened. MANY swords to chose from. No way to my knowledge to figure out which of these is better or worse. Is a silver longsword better than a steel longsword? Is bismuth bronze as good as bronze? I was just a bit overwhlmed to say the least. I did not want to sell my current weapon and end up with something worse for. I also thought what of armor?

I looked online for a list of which types of swords are better. All I could rely find is lists of materials these weapons could be made out of. They may list density, but would that mean its better than something that ways less? I would imagine that a blunt weapon such as a hammer or mace would be better if it is heavier, but then what would be the purpose of making it out of a higher grade of metal? I of course know the basics, such as bronze would be better than copper. But where would the aforementioned silver lie? What about "fine" crafted items and other grades?

So, anyone happen to know where I could find a list or similar page detailing which is better or worse? It would rely help me on my adventures.
