Noticed some minor things while comparing the objects files to vanilla 0.44.12:
  • creature_large_ocean - SHARK_WHALE: change "shale shark" to "whale shark"
  • creature_large_ocean - FISH_CONGER_EEL: change "freshwater" to "ocean water"
  • creature_large_riverlake - FISH_CARP: change "gather groups" to "gather in groups"
  • creature_temperate_new - ADDER: change "small snake" to "tiny snake"
  • plant_new_trees - With contributions from: change "/u/XIILarxene - Alexis DeSilva" to "/u/DyebrewsWitch - Alexis DeSilva"

I think the "Customize" menu of the "Graphics" menu is confusing. Having two tileset selection menus makes it look like you can have two, but that's only possible if you are using TWBT. Imo, one of the two tileset selection menus should be grayed-out unless the text mode is set to TWBT. Otherwise, if graphics are on, the text font selection menu should be grayed out. And if graphics are off, the graphics font selection menu should be grayed out.

Hello,
Great tileset and graphics. I am really enjoying the look of the dwarves. I have a question though. My miners show up in-game as white ghost dwarfs staring at the bottom of the screen. Just curious how I might fix this?

Delete the /raw/graphics/graphics_example.txt file.

If you don't mind data from 26 months ago, there's some info on DFHack and Therapist from the previous survey: https://esurv.org/results-overview.php?surveyID=MHOOKF_5e045b64&mode=4

This was before Clément took over Dwarf Therapist and I thought Mac users would need to pick between 32-bit Dwarf Fortress with Dwarf Therapist or 64-bit Dwarf Fortress with DFHack + TWBT.

It would be nice if all the tile and color stuff had their own files. It would make it much easier to update graphics packs.

I posted it on the subreddit. I probably picked a bad time of day to post it, though.

9-question survey

I'm mostly curious about which graphics/tilesets are popular now, but there's other questions too.

It will show you the survey results after you complete the survey.

Edit: Here's the results page so you can check back later: https://esurv.org/results-overview.php?surveyID=MCMDFG_4d2103c4&mode=4

Will the new version remove the minimum horizontal tile resolution of 80 tiles? Currently if you want to use a 32x32 tileset, you kind of need a screen resolution that is at least 2560 pixels (80 x 32) wide.

Also, are edited raw objects files for graphics packs still going to be a thing with the new version?

Hey, prixt. I just wanted to let you know I'm including SoundSense-RS in the Lazy Mac Pack.

I tested it on a Debian/Ubuntu-based Linux machine. I got the same problem with the GUI as on Mac, except the Linux version also gave me an error message: Failed to load module "appmenu-gtk-module".

I like that it doesn't use disk space and doesn't need third-party software to run. It looks like the current memory usage is ~25 MB and the disk usage is 2.5 MB. If these doubled, I don't think it would be a big deal. I don't mind not having volume controls, but it would be kind of nice.

On my phone, please excuse the brevity.

Current tilesets will still work, but will need updating for two reasons:
- updating to the new set of base files, like any tileset does for every regular new df version.
- new sprites, if they want to make full use of the new graphics; or remapping old sprites to remain looking like they are.

So Phoebus could look like it always did, but over time people might improve it by adding new sprites, just like they did with twbt.

The paid and free versions will be identical as far as tileset authors and modders are concerned and should be interchangeable. Only big change is that the steam graphics are copyrighted and can only be used with the paid version.

ASCII version will be available too of course, most likely with an ingame toggle, similar to the truetype font and tile-based font are switched atm.

Rounded ramps is something I'll do for my own private set. ;)

Any questions I missed?

Thank you. For some reason I thought the Steam version was fancier version and Windows-only. Maybe because the Steam page lists Windows but not Mac or SteamOS + Linux.

Is the Bay12games version of Dwarf Fortress going to be able to use graphics packs in the new format? I thought we would still need the old graphics format for the Bay12games version.

417
Are we able to make graphics packs for the steamitch version of the game? Is the new graphics format much different? Do you think there would be any point to porting classic packs like Phoebus and Spacefox to the new format?

How does this handle combat sounds coming in too fast to complete? When I tried SoundCense (the version that was packed with the LNP at the time), combat sounds were almost unusable, because they'd all be queued up and each sound was a lot longer than the actual combat event in question. I'd end up having to pause the game a bunch to let the combat sound channel resolve.

SoundSense is better in that it seems to play the most recent combat sound, rather than queuing them up; which means that if you're hearing a combat sound, combat is currently ongoing.

What approach does SoundSense-RS take?

If there's too much stuff going on at once, it just doesn't play anything. It goes silent. It does not queue things up. Around five units fighting at-once in the arena seems like too much for it.

DF General Discussion / Re: Lazy Mac Pack (v0.44.05)
« on: February 08, 2020, 10:24:14 am »
There's an update to the (lite) pack for DF 0.47.02. There's no DFHack or TWBT yet, though.

Thanks to falcn for improving to Dwarf Therapist and updating SoundSense and AnnouncementWindow to work better with newer versions of Dwarf Fortress!:
  • Dwarf Therapist is more likely to save your preferences
  • SoundSense "emotion" sound pack updated and sparring spam removed (full sound pack not included, though)
  • updated filters for Algee's Announcement Window+ (it's included now)
Also, this release is using a different version of SoundSense. It doesn't require Java anymore, and it has an "ignore" list feature so that you can ignore certain events without editing your soundpacks. It's prixt's SoundSense-RS.

It says:

Unable to locate a running copy of Dwarf
Fortress, are you sure it's running?

Please re-connect when Dwarf Fortress has
been started and a fort has been loaded.

Oh, I figured it out. It didn't like that I renamed my "dwarfort.exe" to "Dwarf Fortress".
