« on: July 11, 2014, 07:59:40 pm »
The only release I couldn't pin-point a devtime for was the original release.

Dwarf Fortress started October 2002

Now how did I miss that?

Edit: Thanks for that. Now I have that as well.

In have to account for the fact that Toady used to work only pqart time in DF. I don't remember when he started working on DF full time, but it was quite a few months after the inital release.
Some time 2008, he quit his part time (?) math (?)job at a university (?).

Been lurking for a while.  Decided to try adventure mode this update.  Some pretty amazing stuff's been happening, but it almost always results in my own death, and I'm having trouble figuring out what I've done wrong.  Beyond the obvious Boogeymen/Blind Troll deaths, my demigods keep dying to random schmucks, despite wearing armor, and having high skills.  Usually it's the first or second fight I get into.  Any advice on making a good adventurer?
Grind. Throw rocks at the ground, wrestle hedgehogs, torture any bandits you disable, whatever you can do for skill.

I must amend, for no more reason than that this work is deserving, that nonetheless your art remains quite beautiful.
Also, clearly the necromancer is moody. Most are. It's generally a commonality amongst the overall average of necromancers.
Yes, your art is great. I just thought it had something to do with the necro.

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: Simultaneous attacks?
« on: July 11, 2014, 06:52:26 pm »
Fun fact: I was looking through the raws and noticed that kick attacks all have an [ATTACK_FLAG_BAD_MULTIATTACK] flag, which suggests that kicks have an even worse multiattack penalty than usual.

It's likely because kicks are slow. If you look at the new speed readouts when you're selecting an attack kicks are much slower than punches. Its as slow as biting. It makes sense, lifting a foot and leg up would be a lot slower than just punching or using your sword. If you are wearing armor a kick would be very unwieldy.
Also legs are [STANCE] bodyparts which means that technically when you multi-attack with both legs you levitate for a short period of time.
Can you have your legs cut off mid-levitation?

snip, with something about shouting disabling single talking.
Does it show the regular menu, or the Greeting/never mind menu? If the former, "say goodbye." Latter, do the second choice (skip greeting.)

Granted. You have Babbie, a violent war elephant.

Granted. He comes back and is permabanned shortly before your wish was granted.

I wish for a new Swiss Army Knife.
Granted. You flip the knife closed and cut off a finger.

I wish for EENFINITE KNOWLEDGE OF GRASS SPECIES.
((Damn ninjas...))

Insert L. Become PLEASANT
Peasantly eat the peasantly bread.
[10]You eat that bread. It is a little rough, and hard as well, but it is better than nothing. For once, the rock hard crust doesn't cut up your throat. Wat do?

That was the bandit gang mentioned in the starting message. Any people who tell you they are on a mission and have weapons are bandits.

This would be good, as well as completely different ones (using positive opinions towards rulers:
I approve of their rule.
Well, they are certainly better than (other group).
Etc.)

I am Burrito Mage! I encase myself in a thick outer bean and cheese layer, covered in tortilla, with a tube for air.

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: What's going on in your adventure?
« on: July 11, 2014, 04:37:29 pm »
Well, my adventure to see the dark fortress Menacedhog started swimmingly. Rolled up a hero speardwarf, just so happened to worship Zukon, the dwarf god responsible for the creation of the dark fortress Menacedhog. Went traveling in the direction of Menacedhog until it got close to nighttime. Decided to stay in a local mountainhome for the night to avoid the bogeys.

I get inside, and there's all these dwarves and goblins in the trade depot, yeah? So I take a couple steps, and suddenly everyone is fleeing and fighting for their lives. Several goblins and dwarves start beating up a child. Others scramble towards the walls of the fort entrance and scrabble vainly in an effort to climb them in a mad attempt to flee the hostilities. There's countless dwarves and goblins listed as hostile to me. Everyone is a civilian of some kind. Guess there's a loyalty cascade or something in the progress.

I shout out at everyone to "cease these pointless hostilities!" and the only one to respond is the child, who's still getting the crap beat out of him by dwarves and goblins. He spits at me and responds "Never!"

So, not wanting to meticulously talk every single dwarf and goblin out of their hostility, I decide to chalk it all up as an insurrection brought on by goblins and start slaying every dwarf and goblin listed as hostile. 27 kills later, the fort entrance is full of blood and  corpses and I call it a day and go to sleep with a new title as "Muthkat Lightplank the Symmetric Pattern of Disembowlers."

Adventure mode alignment seems kinda screwy.
Yeah, I had a similar thing starting as a human, except that the dwarves were hostile to me, and goblins friendly. Looking in legemds, human and dwarf civs weren't fighting. Nice title.
