DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: Can you build up your own Hamlet
« on: June 25, 2016, 12:12:02 pm »
Paying tribute seems to be something like a fuedalism vassal.  So one can claim/takeover/build a site for themselves, gather a hearth army and force the surrounding Lords to bow before you, aka pay tribute. There is no immediate gameplay benefit but your adventurer will go on to play his new role as Lord in the world should you retire him. It's mostly for RP purposes right now but it's alot of fun and injects some personal connection with the Lord's of the land.

My first fort fell to a particularly nasty wereass (my favorite were creature tbh) and the resulting infection. The attack forced me to barricade the dwarves in the fortress when a siege showed up. Trapped with the horrible creatures their friends had become. Been hooked ever since.

Silly question but can't seem to figure out how to use the carpenter workshop, I tried (u)se and a few others to no avail.

Ya, I second the notion to wait for a bug fixing pass. Firstly because I want this to go off well without version switching. And secondly because Stellaris has just released and is devouring my time.

Also worth mentioning, if you say you don't know what anything is USS the look command with the L key. That will bring up a cursor explaining each tile.

6
Oh ya, sorry for the double posting but when you say week long turns are you talking in-game week or RL week?

This is a wonderful idea. I'm so in! Eventually we could assemble armies of PC hearthmen and force the entire world to pay homage to our noble guild!

8
Ptw here as I am currently adventuring  and conquering and can't for the life of me get anyone to pay homage. Despite slaughtering the entire hearth army, shouting in faces about my legendary kills and boasting a very large hearth army myself. I could just conquer everything myself but it breaks immersion a little and takes away from the fuedalism RP

DF Modding / Re: Pheobus map legend?
« on: April 18, 2016, 12:23:29 pm »
I use Phoebus, the important map elements are  purple scrolls and dresser looking icons for dark pits and dark fortresses respectively. Green and blue chest and pound sign looking symbols are human Hamlet's and towns. Golden statues and goblets for elven retreats. And dark grey crowns and dwarf statues for forts and deep halls and usually lighter dwarf statues and or omega symbols for hillocks. Just gen a world and look it over before saving it and you can read what everything is. Or use legends viewer. It's a great tool to get a feel for the world before you dive in.

This (awesome) post would get a lot more love in the  community games section. Also, I'm super curious about this modded race your playing as.

Edit: lagomers, got it. Awesome.

I think as far as site pop its displaying the living population. Though I could be wrong. I seem to recall there is also a "living" entity populations list. But yea, legends viewer is up there with dfhack/therapist in importance for me, huge shout out to whoever maintains that.

Sounds like it's time for you to crack open the legends viewer utility. I never embark without first consulting that thing.

but what about megabeasts and invasions and forgotten beasts and vampires and werecreatures and everything else that doesn't show up until you hit a certain population threshhold...I might have to try this but set it to something like 90 or 100.
