Who cares about Truely unique? It has unique qualities

A cake made of mustard has unique qualities, that doesn't make it any good.

As for the Developers being Lazy... Look man, Spore touches areas of gaming that have NEVER been touched before in many different areas. They also spent 2-4 extra years on it then they believed they were supposed to (Yet that doesn't show in the price does it?).

The only truly unique thing in spore was the terraforming of planets. The rest is just remade and shittier versions of other game's mechanics.

Edit:  The crux of this, is that I believe a corporation as an entity should have the right to say "We will let you use our product if you compensate us for our hard work."   Pirating breaks that agreement because you get their hard work without compensating them a bit.   Ergo, theft plain and simple.   Don't try to gussy it up with talk of 'freedom' or 'rights', since you're actively taking away the freedom and rights of the corporation to get compensated for their product.   By pirating, you're the aggressor.

The only 'hard work' that went into spore was the mass amount of hype and the extreme renovation which made it into a kiddie game.

The difference is that with software it isn't tangible. There is no physical loss.

The physical loss is in money, and even if a game is pirated a million times, no doubt said game has a million, if not more, legal buyers. Companies that blame unprofitable game releases on piracy are lazy and deserve to go under.

Although anyone who even considers themselves slightly knowledged in indie games knows about Lugaru, it's a great game. I think there was a topic before about it but don't remember.

By that logic counterfeiting money would be perfectly okay.

Share the wealth!

You don't give people pirated video games for other objects.

"I'm sorry Toady...  I just...  I just had to do it!  You've pushed me too far!  :'("

Is that before or after the dramatic final kiss?

If several games threads turn into this, a platform for criminal activity is exactly what you have.  That's what it is.  Many of you are used to pirating games, but what if somebody just wants to talk about a game and doesn't feel comfortable posting among the torrent links?  You can call that person silly too, but not everybody pirates games.  Not everybody swears either or feels comfortable with it, but swearing isn't a crime.  This is not the forum I want, and it's not the forum I'm going to have.  I'm not saying it's like that now (although if somebody posted a link in the Spore thread, let me know), but it does seem to be trending that way and I'd like it to stop.

I wasnt saying your outlawing of the linking was silly, more the reason (Legal Issues) was far fetched. I've really got no issue with it, just don't go so far as to ban at the mention of it, as many other forums do.

As far as legal hassles go, I really have no idea, but if I receive a single email attempting to get me to release information about a member or to take a thread down or threatening to report me to my hosting provider, it's gone way too far, and I think that's easily within the realm of possibility should things continue down this road.  Even if they are abusing their power in making such a request, it's not as if I should be surprised, having allowed the situation to get to that point.

If that were the case, you'd have to think that they'd have bigger fish to fry than a loose coalition of Geeks exchanging links on a rather unknown forum. I've seen stupider things happen, though.

I guess it's okay...but the whole thing with dressing up like vikings or something (not that any of these vids include such, but I've seen some...bleh) seems a little comic, people with often no connections to that type of culture trying to mimic it with speed metal... ;D

No.

No.

NO. If you're going to attempt to ridicule a genre of music, atleast figure out what the hell you're talking about. The fact that most/all of these bands originally came from the Scandinavian countries is more than enough proof they've been influenced by Viking Lore, especially bands like Amon Amarth (though they hold out it's not 'viking metal', but metal with Viking influence).

In any case, there will be no further warnings here, and no warnings for anybody in the case that people start posting links, just permanent bans, regardless of how long you've been here, so please be careful.  I can't allow this forum to become a platform for criminal activity, not just for my own livelihood, but for everyone who likes to come here.

That's silly. Just because some people on a forum exchange information they more than likely know about doesn't lead to said forum becoming a hive of 'criminal activity'. In all my years I've never, in the history of the internet, seen a forum for a game get tracked down, sued, and taken out for simply linking to other sites which endorse piracy. It just simply doesn't happen, anywhere, since any company with half a brain goes for the source, not people linking to the source.

Though I honestly don't care enough to argue for public postings of links, which I did not have the thought to do, I will give someone a link in a PM if they ask me.

I dident know how liberal the forums were with swearing as most go from extremes, point noted no more open swearing:D. I get so much shit from these 'respectful' posters who are really just trolls my multiple level statement is basically my shout of denial, i dont care how long they've been posting unless their a mod they arent going to get me to conform to their style of posting. Any 'clever' attempts to undermine my posting shall be met with brute force rants like my second reply, technically i never start these- you'll note the snippy reply to this post.

Go be an angsty teenager somewhere else.
