It's not just Trump. There are plenty of politicians that have expressed the same sort of sentiment, and have been doing so for quite a while now. It hasn't gotten to the same level as Europe yet, but it's definitely there.

Roll To Dodge / Re: Apocalypse Pilot Academy (1/6) [Setup/Pregame]

Edit: Changed backstory.

Name: Charles Miller
Nationality: American

Description: Charles has dark brown hair, and is of average height. His personality is outgoing and friendly, and has a good sense of humor.  He is a fairly competent pilot, though he is somewhat reckless. He lives for the thrill of flying, and is happiest when in the cockpit.

Background: Charles grew up witnessing the birth of flight firsthand, and thus developed a keen fascination with aircraft, with the early years of his adulthood spent searching for a chance to fly. In 1912, he got his chance when a friend of his family, an airmail pilot, offered to train him to fly. He eagerly accepted, and subsequently became an airmail pilot himself, flying in that capacity for several years. When the international effort against the Blight began, he quit his job and made his way to the Northern Front Academy, seeking to do what he could.

Water shielding?
Water is quite heavy, which is a pretty big issue when you're trying to get something into space.

Spoiler: Relevant. (click to show/hide)
The fact that early Sidewinder missiles actually had a habit of tracking into the sun if their sensors got within 20 degrees of it makes this even funnier.

@Flying Dice: I remember that. That really sucked man, I feel for you. I was really excited when I saw that you were trying to bring Quest style gameplay over to Bay12, and it was sad seeing what happened with the playerbase.
It's sad, because Quest-style play is hands-down the most interesting sort of forum game to me, but in retrospect I probably shouldn't be surprised that it thrives best on /tg/ (and via /tg/'s /a/mmigrants) and Spacebattles/Sufficient Velocity, since their respective core interests are more closely aligned with narrative-driven play.
To be honest, I'd love having a proper /tg/ style quest on here. Avoiding Sues/Stus would probably be fairly easy; you could just give a list of pre-determined characters for them to pick from.

I'm okay with it if we copper it.

Revise Dover-class brig into Yorktown-class brig

Replace the two 6-pdr by 8-pdr Van Karsten. Copper the hull to make it fast, add pintle-mounted Coombe mini-cannons on the sides, increase the masts and sails size. The resulting ship should have more firepower than the dover whil being much faster.

Ixlas awakens in the cold, barren Ice Fields; a sphere of churning ice, snow, and wind above the flat and featureless ice plains. It looks about, noting the nothingness that is all around, and begins to create.

Create the Monolith of Storms. This is a large, grey, stone pyramid, situated on the point of the equator opposite to the tower of life. It is surrounded by a massive, enternal blizzard, and occasionally spits out smaller blizzards. Most of these are sent on trajectories close to the equator, but very rarely are sent north or south into the large seas where they quickly dissipate.

Create the Icenut Bush A small, hardy shrub with short, needle-filled branches. It's needles are a dark green in color, and small bunches of Icenuts grow on the larger branches. It reproduces when blizzards tear the nuts off of the branches and scatter them across the Ice Fields.

Create the Snowbird. The Snowbird is a small, white-feathered bird that makes its home inside Icenut Bushes. It's nests are oblong  chambers woven into the branches of Icenut Bushes, and are located near the center of the bush, where the most protection is provided against the winds. The Snowbird feeds on Icenuts, cracking them open with its beak.

To be completely honest, I doubt that the Saudis and the Iranians will escalate beyond this.

Quote
In a video shot Saturday, Ammon Bundy — Cliven Bundy’s son — explained that the plan was to turn the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge into a “base place for patriots from all over the country to come and to be housed here and to live here.”
“We’re going to be staying here for several years. We need you to bring your arms and we need you to come to the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge,” Bundy added later in the video.
In another video posted Saturday night, Ammon Bundy said “the people have been abused long enough” and said people should be allowed to us public land and resources.

So basically, a group can essentially take over government land, threaten to turn it into a giant compound full of weapons and illegal booby traps, and this is not terrorism. I guess you're all correct. It's invasion.  :)
Last time I checked, the Bundy militia wasn't a sovereign nation.

Oh wait shit that's in Oregon?

...I'm disappointed at myself for how quickly my desired response to the incident went from disagreeing drastically with RedKing to very nearly agreeing with him (more along the lines of 'firebomb the place' or 'how well do these navy experimental railguns really work - right before I remembered it should be kept intact because federal wildlife building) based entirely upon the location it happened. Still...

I say march up and tell 'em to get the fuck out. If they shoot at the police without provocation? Bring in the fucking military.
You guys do realize that they're trying to force a confrontation, right? Going in with guns blazing, or otherwise using force to end this, would be playing right into their hands. The FBI handles these situations the way it does for a very good reason

I'm betting my money on there being a standoff for a few months or so before they surrender. This stuff normally doesn't escalate to the point of shooting anymore.

Yeah, the fun part of the US system is how powerless parties are. In most Western countries, parties by and large define their candidates platform. It's no wonder the US doesn't have more than two parties: it's easier to run with your agenda on one of the party's tickets rather than to create your own party.
Political parties only became powerless in the early 1900s, during the Reform Era, when parties switched to the primary system. (Before this, the party leaders selected candidates.) The two-party system has been around since a decade or so after the adoption of the Constitution (thus predating the powerlessness of the parties by about 120 years), and is caused by the election system used in the US.
