Mafia / Exquisite Cops and Robbers II - Final Night
« on: February 06, 2021, 10:39:20 pm »
Warning: This game is fueled by player input - game balance not included now (partially) included. You have been warned.

Exquisite Cops and Robbers II

Exquisite huh?
It's Mafia + Exquisite Corpse. I ran the first version of this a while ago.

How will this work?
During game setup, I'll give you prompts, and you'll provide responses:

1. I send you an Alignment. Come up with three separate Wincons for it.
2. I send you two Wincons. Come up with an Ability that matches one, an Ability that matches the other, and an Ability that matches both.
3. I send you three Abilities. Come up with three Rolenames, one for each pair of Abilities.
4. I send you two Rolenames. Come up with an Ability that matches one, an Ability that matches the other, and an Ability that matches both.

Each of the prompts you receive (except for the first) is someone else's response. Together you'll create the roles that will be in the game.

So no one knows what the roles will be?
Basically. I have some options of what role segments to choose for each role, but what I have to choose from will be completely up to you.

What do we know about the setup?
They'll be 7 players: 5 Town and 2 Mafia. Mafia gets a scumchat. In addition to their personal Wincon, each role wins if the opposing team is dead or if its death is inevitable.
The game will begin with a Night 1, but kill abilities (and the like) will be disabled that Night. Days last 72 hours, Nights last 24 hours at most. Hammers are in effect.
Oh, and something clarified from last time: If a Wincon doesn't say you have to be alive, you don't have to be alive.

Alright, let's roll.

Roll To Dodge / Neon Nightmare [Combat Test]
« on: April 20, 2020, 08:56:17 pm »
I'm planning on running an urban dungeon crawl sometime soon, but I'd like to test out the combat system first. If you're unfamiliar with urban dungeon crawls here's how I'd describe them: Imagine a group of adventurers going from room to room in a dungeon, but the adventurers are armed with modern/improvised weapons, the rooms are full of 20th/21st century decor, and there's copious amounts of violence and flashing lights. To see an example of this, check out the aptly named BLOOD AND NEON, or play some Hotline Miami.

As for this game in particular, it'll be more competitive than cooperative, and - although they'll be on the same map - players won't be interacting with each other directly. If you're interested in giving the combat test a shot, then read the rules right here. Since this is just a combat test, the rules about dying/looting don't apply.

Once you sign up, I'll give you some random weapons. We'll be able to start things proper once I get 3 or so players.

Forum Games and Roleplaying / Everybody Is John [ISG]
« on: December 16, 2019, 03:30:01 am »

John, a deeply troubled man, has just come to consciousness. His body is his own, but his mind is not: everything he does is controlled by the insidious voices in his head. They have caused him much grief in the past, but where has he ended up now? John cannot remember - but the voices can.

Rock Paper Scissors is easy. Lets change that.

The game is split into rounds, in which each player is matched up with another player. All players choose a move, and the winning player from each pair gets a point. Then, a new round begins with players paired up differently. The first player to reach 25 points wins the game.

But here's the obligatory twist: Players gain a research point (Rock point, Paper point or Scissors point) by playing a move, and can spend those points between rounds to research new and more exciting moves. This means that the game board will eventually look like a nightmare. For now, it looks like this.

Spoiler: The Board (click to show/hide)

To sign up, just say so in the thread, and send me your first move. You can even say that in the thread, if you're feeling particularly bold.

Roll To Dodge / roll to LoFi (3/∞)
« on: January 26, 2019, 06:38:38 pm »
You're lying on your bed, strumming some sweet chords, when you get that feeling. You set down your guitar, boot up your laptop, and open your generic audio software. It's time to make some music!

But where to begin? You scroll through your bookmarks until you find it: the LoFi Leaderboard, also known as the greatest repository of music that mankind has ever known! If you want your song to go big, here's where you should start.

Spoiler: LoFi Leaderboard (click to show/hide)

With a good idea of what's currently in style, you start putting together your song. This one will hit the charts for sure!

Every action, come up with what you'll do for editing, vocals and instrumental. Here are some ideas of what that might include:

EDITING
-Create a thumbnail (Describe what will be in it or find a picture online)
-Add sound effects or filters to the song
-Edit the song to a specific length (deleting specific content doesn't require an action)
VOCALS
-Look around for inspiration (Choose an object you look at or place you look through)
-Listen to a song for ideas (Could be real or in-game)
-Write some lyrics of your own
INSTRUMENTAL
-Make music using a collection of objects/instruments
-Sample some music (real or in-game)
-Create music from a basic beat (Chrome Music Lab is easy to use)

There's no sign-up sheet and now player cap (yet). If you're reading this, all you need to do is post an action to join!

Forum Games and Roleplaying / Town of Salem Mafia [7/7]
« on: January 16, 2019, 02:01:10 am »
Welcome everyone! You all probably know what Town of Salem, and this is basically it, but on an online forum. I'll go over the differences here, but if you don't know the basic rules of mafia at all, here they are.

This game supports between 6 and 10 players. Of those one or two will be seasoned ("Inexperience Challenged") veterans who'll be able to clarify rules and explain the conventions of the game to new players as they play. Even if you still feel a little shaky about joining - don't worry, they'll be there to help you get the hang of it. The Mafia also gets a seasoned veteran ("Scum IC") who's not in the game, but who can talk to them in the mafiachat.

Alright, now for what's different between this game and Town of Salem:
  • Days last 48 hours. Once per day, they can be extended by 24 hours if a majority of the players vote for it. Nights last 24 hours.
  • Players can vote for someone at any time during the day by saying their name in bold red. Instead of going on the stand, they will simply be lynched if they have the most votes against them at the end of the day. You can change your vote or unvote at any time.
  • The game will start with a day as long as any other day, during which players will be able to vote as they normally do.
  • There are no whispers. The mafia can talk to their partner at any time using a quicktopic chatroom that I will provide for them. The dead can talk with each other at any time using a different quicktopic chatroom.
  • There are no death notes or last wills. Players will be allowed to post one thing right after they die, but it cannot contain any kind of game-related information.
  • There is no draw after two consecutive days of no deaths. However, if this is caused by egregious lurking, the lurkers will be mod-killed.

Now, since that's out of the way, here's how the role distribution works. To keep the exact roles in the game unknown, most roles in the games will actually be one of three different roles. The exact roles will be randomly determined by me then distributed to each player just before the game begins. It is possible for two of the same role to be in the game.

     6 Players
      Mafioso
      Consort / Framer / Consigliere
      Sheriff / Investigator / Lookout
      Doctor / Bodyguard / Spy
      Spy / Vigilante / Escort
      Escort / Transporter / Doctor

  7: Bodyguard / Vigilante / Transporter
  8: Executioner
  9: Sheriff / Investigator / Lookout
10: Serial Killer / Arsonist / Witch

Alright, that's it! You know now everything you'll need to start playing. Sign-ups are open, so feel free to join in on the fun!

Forum Games and Roleplaying / Spacescape: A Sci-Fi RPG with a Twist
« on: November 17, 2018, 07:50:01 pm »
Summary:
An immortal spaceman travels the universe, compelled by a force he does not understand. He hopes it will lead him to uncover the cause of his strange condition and the cure for the amnesia that has plagued him since his journey began.

Sign-ups:
That's right, I won't have an info text-dump here. Rules will be explained when needed, and lore will only be revealed when it comes up. The first player to sign up will be the main character, and everyone else will join the waitlist. However, waitlisters won't be out of the game: They can spectate the game (which is played over PM) and will be selected to control any NPCs that the main character comes in contact with. Once the main character "dies," the next player on the waitlist takes over for them.

I'll be running an RPG, but I want it to be something that you want to play. Here's how I've decided to do that:
-The first 4 people who join are guaranteed a spot, and can suggest anything for the game (mechanics, theme, setting). I'll try to include as much of that as possible.
-People who join later are added to the waitlist, but can still suggest things for the game. If it sounds neat and doesn't clash with what the first 4 said, I'll add it too.
-Any mechanics that haven't already been determined by the above, I'll add myself. I have a few ideas floating around, and I want to try them out.

No real restrictions on the suggestions, except that they have to keep it an RPG (of course). Also, I have to finish something up before I run the game, but I'll be putting the mechanics together in my spare time, so that it'll be ready when my other project is finished.

The portcullis of the coliseum closes behind you, and the roar of the audience booms from above. As you step forward into the light, their cheers are cut off with a gasp. The Knight of Mirrors: to them, you must be a brilliant thing to behold. Your footsteps echo across the silent stage, allowing for a final moment of contemplation. You never imagined this would be the final trial. If you do not succeed, all those years of training will have been for nothing.

You grip your Silver Hookstaff with determination. Let it guide you to your foe and your salvation.
You hold your Glass Buckler up to the light. Let it save you when you need it the most.
You wind the Scintillating String. A gift from the Goddess; let it have the strength she promised.

You stand in the center of the sun-baked arena. From the tunnel before you, you hear their cries long before you see their gleaming eyes.
The horde is coming. You stand ready. You will not fail her again.

Dragging its twisted club behind it, an ogre lumbers into view. It towers before you, a looming mass of vile flesh and bone.

This game is what it says on the tin. To sign up, just say so in the thread and PM me a song. I'll come up with a 12 card deck based on the song and send you the card descriptions, as well as the randomized order of your first deck. Then, you can challenge someone to a duel and play the game in this thread. I'll reshuffle your deck after every game and keep track of people's victories on a leader board in the OP. If you're ever unhappy with your deck, just PM me another song and I'll make you a new one.

The card game itself is pretty simple. Players start with 10 HP and a hand of 5 cards. A coin-flip decides who goes first. On their turn, a player draws a card and then plays up to 3 cards from their hand. Some cards might go to that player's discard pile after being played, some might stick around - it really depends on what their effects are. A player wins if their opponent reaches 0 HP or if they have more HP than their opponent once either player runs out of cards in their deck and hand. Other win conditions can be created by cards.

Roll To Dodge / Wild Mage Adventure!
« on: April 25, 2018, 11:06:29 am »
A group of wild mages sit in the corner of the tavern. After many rounds of ale, they reflect upon their exile. Their unpredictable art has shunned them from the Adventuring Guilds, and the few out there who have used their powers for ill have made enemies for them everywhere. Tonight however, they decide that they will no longer wallow in their fate, and for once in their lives, they will take destiny into their own hands. Tonight, they will make a pact: To destroy those who make a bad name for the wild mages, and to finally achieve a victory worthy of an entire Adventuring Guild! Together, they will succeed in an Epic Quest!
~~
You wake up the next morning, bleary eyed and with a terrible hangover. The determination of yesterday is slightly dampened by your rather excessive bar tab (what a night!), but that won't stop you. If you don't have the 200 Gold Pieces right now, that means there's just another reason to start your quest, right? You squint at your fellow adventurers that have assembled around the table, trying to make out how many there are. There's at least another one (maybe you imagined the others?), but there's probably more... heck, you think there could be as many as 8 wizards here, if there's enough player interest.
