« on: December 12, 2015, 01:57:11 am »
The idea is simple: Everyone works together to make up a religion by writing one fact about it in each post. If I catch that it's self-contradicting (or batshit insane), I'll make you start all over again. If everyone manages to get together a total of 100 non-contradictory facts, you win. Now since you probably are eager to get started, here are the rules:

1. Only one fact per post.
2. Do not double-post
3. Number your posts to keep track of how many you have down so far.
4. Don't blatantly copy existing religions (inspiration is fine).

That's all! Just go ahead and post!

Forum Games and Roleplaying / Sleep Paralysis
« on: October 15, 2015, 05:51:10 pm »
During the day...
You study for the end of year tests that to take each week. After that, it's off to your job at Keyboard Co. to do whatever pointless task they've given you. If you fail college or don't scrape together enough money by the end of the year, you're stuck home during summer vacation while your friends get to backpack across Europe without you. Try not to do that.

During the night...
You lay in your bed, staring at the ceiling. Sometimes you can't fall asleep. Other nights, you just don't want to. This is because you suffer from one of the most bizarre forms of sleep. While you're fellow classmates dream with their eyes closed, your dreams happen before your eyes, while you are paralyzed and helpless. Sometimes they are ordinary, annoying but harmless. The problem is, sometimes they aren't. Every night is a thing to prepare for when you have...

Mafia / Cultists and Churchgoers!
« on: August 29, 2015, 11:58:59 am »
Cultists and Churchgoers
This is a 4 person game of mafia, with the Church attempting to get someone from the Cult lynched by the end of the game. The Cult wins if this doesn't happen. However, there is a twist: Each player has two roles! The first role ( referred to as the 'public' role) determines your allegiance to the Church and whether or not you have a day action. Your second role - the 'private' role - determines your allegiance to the Cult and whether or not you have a night action. What happens if a person is part of the Cult and the Church? You'll just have to keep reading to find out.

Spoiler: Public Roles: (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: Private Roles: (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: Extra Roles: (click to show/hide)

Each game shouldn't last too long. If I get a small group of loyal players I might step up the complexity level of the game. If you want to join, post below. No character sheet required, obviously.

Forum Games and Roleplaying / Happy Birthday!
« on: August 22, 2015, 11:51:50 am »
To join this thread, all you need to do is send a PM to someone whose birthday it is on that day, and inform them about the existence of this thread by providing a link to it in the PM. Then post here the name of the person who you wished a happy birthday. You can only wish a happy birthday to someone who wasn't wished one before and someone who isn't already part of this thread. Once you have joined, you will receive and give the following benefits to the other members:

-If you are running a game, one of your players is part of this thread, and his birthday is between the last turn and the one you are writing up, he receives a +2 to his action.

-If the action has to do with extinguishing fire, eating cake, or throwing a party, he automatically rolls just below an overshoot instead (5 on a d6).

-If you are part of a game and the GM is part of this thread and his/her birthday is within three days of the time you are posting your action, you must have your character wish him a happy birthday, somehow.

-If you are the GM and a player who is part of this thread does not follow the above rule, you are authorized to give a -1 to the next actions of everyone allied with him (and him), or just give a -2 to his next action.

I've joined this thread because I wished a happy birthday to LASD.

EDIT: The person you are wishing a happy birthday to must have been active in the last 30 days.

General Discussion / What reminds you of dreams?
« on: August 12, 2015, 11:11:14 pm »
I now you're probably thinking, "there's already a dreams thread!" This isn't a dreams thread. It's much simpler than that:

Just think of an object that reminds you of a dream, either in it's bizarre surrealism, or it's strangely melancholy atmosphere.

There are some rules to this of course:
-Nothing scary or disturbing. No one wants to have nightmares because of this.
-Nothing silly or immersion-breaking. I'm using these objects as an inspiration for a story/game, and I don't want anything to detract from the experience.

The object you choose can be as simple as "A blue bowl of milk," to as complex as "A painting of an elephant in a bowler hat, it's edges faded by the passing of time or burned by a fire." If you've played Device 6, you'll be able to think of something pretty quickly. If not, just think of a dream you've had (or just look at other people's dreams in the dreams thread) and take inspiration from that. Also, I really don't care if you discuss other people's objects just as long as you're not ridiculing them and as long as you've contributed an object, too.

I've already given two examples, so I'll let you think of the rest. Don't just read here. Write something, too.

Forum Games and Roleplaying / Igynpadca OOC
« on: August 02, 2015, 09:14:02 pm »
I know what you're thinking:

Why would Igynpadca have an OOC thread? There's no point.

Here's why:
While I was reading the early posts on Igynpadca, I realized that it could be possible for a tabletop game to be made like it. Suddenly, I came across another person on the thread who said the same (although instead suggesting programming a game). It was even suggested that an OOC thread be created! I since I saw none on the first page, I searched the entire board for it, thinking it might give me ideas for my game, but I could find none. So I created my own.

Here is a place where people can can pitch in some mechanics to the game. However, don't go over board; I think we'd all want it to be playable in the end. Of course, why not also use the 100+ pages of already written material as inspiration? It would take me far too long to read it all, and I would be too tired by the second half to think clearly. So, if some brave souls would be willing to sign up to "scour" self-assigned pages, I would be extremely happy. I hope this works out - and if it does - all that helped will be given credit to for the rest of time!

You must take prove your superiority by killing/enslaving them all.
But you are not alone in this enterprise.
Will your fellow teddies be your comrades, enemies, or subordinates?
Will you band together, or work alone?

Abilities: Simple stuff: Can you speak? Can you jump? etc.
Special Power: Must be approved by me.

Roll To Dodge / Thou Art Adventurers: An Open-World RTD
« on: July 21, 2015, 12:59:37 am »
Thou Art Adventurers

Ye begin in the harbor town of Renethport, located at the edge of the Great Nation of Alexandria, which covers half the known world. The Lesser Nations make up another quarter of the land, and last quarter is the wild region known as the Frontier.

This is a world of much fantasy, although the days of wizardry are long gone. (But some remnants of them may be found)
And thou? Thou art adventurers!

The first player to join decides where the adventuring party will begin. (Tavern, ship, etc.)

Each player will have a defined role in the party. This will be the only reason for getting bonuses on rolls.
Work together to create complementing roles.

You cannot wield magic, but you can find magic weapons to wield.

Each player may choose a rumor that their character has heard. (example: location scary cave with werewolf)
It may not be true.

Standard d6 will determine all but mundane actions.

    Things to Remember:
1) This is a serious game
2) This game is simplistic, but not minimalist.
3) This game is open-world. There is no main story-line. (For now)
4) Your characters aren't superheroes. They have to work together to overcome obstacles.

Forum Games and Roleplaying / Life's No Object

What would you do, if you knew this life was only one of many other, potential lives?
Who would you sacrifice to save your soul?
When would you stop escaping your death?

What you choose to do is trivial.
Save a life. Get revenge. Make history.
Or take a walk down the darker path.

When you die, your soul leaves your body. It cannot survive without a host for more than 24 hours.
But you can take replace of the soul of another Bay12 user who is alive, but not in the game.
Will you? What will you use your new life for? The one after that?

Just remember,
you can never return to a previous body,
if your identity is stolen, you cannot play the game,
and the results of all actions are determined by the roll of two standard die.

Roll To Dodge / Necromancer: The End
« on: July 11, 2015, 10:35:41 pm »
I'm coming back to Bay 12 after leaving about half a year ago because school got in the way of posting. I don't really know what you guys like anymore, so I'll just let you guys pitch some ideas here. About three days from now, I'll look over the votes and convert this thread into the game which got the most votes. I hope it's something interesting!

Necromancer

In life, you were a powerful wizard, feared by all. Your powers of necromancy were your strongest weapon. That's why you were killed so easily when they were taken from you by the Council of High Mages. But now you are back! You clawed your way up from the deepest parts of Hell, and finally you'll rule the world. Who cares if you're not even human anymore! No one can stop you n- Actually, it turns out you owe someone a favor. And you'll have to pay them back first. They did give you your powers, after all...

Character Sheet
Name:
Gender:
Race:
Debtor:
Bio:

Races
Vampire: You are the creature of the night. Flitting from shadow to shadow, you can stalk your prey like a cat.
Pro: +1 to actions at while in darkness. You can shapeshift between bat form & vampire for one hour after feeding.
Con: -1 to actions for each minute in direct sunlight & you have to make a save the first time you enter & each minute thereafter, or die. You must drink blood within 24 hours of your last feeding or die.

Half-Lich: Although you do not have the full powers of a lich, you are still a formidable opponent in melee and magic.
Pro: +1 to all spells of one type (excluding necromancy), a successful save negates minor/non-magical damage.
Con: Your rotting stench makes it impossible to be in public normally & gives you a -1 to hiding or disguising yourself.

Spirit: Although you look like any living being, you are actually a ghost. No longer possessing a heart or blood, it is your own magic that keeps you alive.
Pro: You pass through solid matter. Once per day you can turn yourself invisible without a check for 1d4 minutes.
Con: You must make a check to become solid for 1 minute. Your magical nature makes you easier to find & harm with magic.

Debtors
An evil/chaotic God: The power he/she gave you was great. However, your debt is great as well. +2 to necromantic magic. Hard quest.

The neighboring kingdom's Emperor: He hired his court wizard to teach you the talent. It came with a price. +1 to necromantic magic. Medium quest.

A tribal Shaman: It's hard to tell whether he's responsible for your magic or not. He wants repayment anyway. No bonus to necromantic magic. Easy quest.

Magic & Dice
Although you are a necromancer, you are an accomplished wizard as well. Most magic you cast will have no modifier, but casting cantrips will be done with a +1 bonus, and certain powerful magic will have a -1 or -2 modifier. I will be using a d8 to decide the outcomes of most actions, including the casting of spells. A 1-2 means the spell failed, on a 3-4 the spell succeeded but missed the target at least partially, 5-6 is a success, and 7-8 is a great success with positive results. Anything below 1 is an epic fail and the spell backfires, and anything above 8 is an overshoot with negative results
