Look around to find cover. Run to it.

Turn on improvised heater and point it at Ex-Sambo. Also turn pale with fear.

((probably won't make too much of a difference, but worth a try.))

Received a phonecall. From a call centre, I assume in India. They were apparently a UKIP funding something or other.

Now, this either means UKIP is using overseas call centres to solicit donations, or some scammers are being stupid enough to think thank UKIP of all people might use overseas call centres. Either UKIP are hypocrites or the guy running a scam is a tool.
Hypocrites possibly, but I don't think they'll attempt to solicit donations. Especially in a way that would make them look like hypocrites, like outsourcing call centres. The scam theory seems more likely.

That's an interesting way of doing it. I don't think I've seen that before in any game I've played.

Gotta go fast.

Also there's probably no FPS cap.

Yeah, but that could cause problems with people's graphics cards if they just left the editor running while they're AFK. One of the reasons screensavers exist, I suppose.

Ok, I've been checking my Unity project at run-time: constant between 60-70 fps. Ok, I'm happy with that.

I hit stop. The fps monitor says the editor is being rendered at over 4000 fps. WHY? What is the point of rendering at 4000 fps? My monitor's max refresh rate is only 60Hz.

Okay, I've updated the sprites for the laser animation. No gif, just the frames so far.
Spoiler: Laser Frames (click to show/hide)

No more weird spiral bit, just internal lightning style stuff. I was going to make the effects outside the beam itself, but that just made it look stupid.

For the animation itself, I've decreased the fade-in time, extended the three-frame "lighting laser" bit and increased the fade-out time. Again, no gif because I don't have the time at the moment.

Right-o! Also, i apologize if i come off as condescending, i have an admittedly pretty annoying tendency to explain everything to people as if they don't know anything. If y'alls think i'm overstepping my boundaries, please do let me know. Either that, or make it clear that you don't want me to pounce upon you with advice. :U

Nah, don't worry. I think that its great that you took the time to do constructive criticism on my work.

and now for Rageworm Jeremy

Well hey, you're off to a good start!
Thanks!

I have to say that it looks a bit weird that the spirally part just like pops in out of nowhere.
Yeah, I'll change that later.

Also, depending on how the beam is to function (quick flash versus continuous raking beam of death), you may want to make the fade in/out times a bit different from each other.
It's a quick flash, triggered when someone walks into it in its "idle" state (an animation consisting of just the first two frames of this animation). The actual animation has a shorter fade in time and a longer fade out time, but I couldn't really show that in the gif.

if you want to be super cheeky and add a lot of coolness, you can shift the entire sprite forward one length in no less than 3 steps* (so you move it 1/3rd the total height in one frame, and wrap the top around to the bottom), which, when looped, will give a neat visual of the spiral flowing forwards. Also, if you vary the brightness of the beam, you can produce a neat pulsing effect, if you want.
That's pretty cool. I'll consider it.

This animation was really just thrown together so I could learn what's what in Unity's animation system. Later animations will have a lot more time put into them.

I've been practising with Unity and C#, and I've made a simple sprite based animation for a laser.
